Just read on .tv that from May 31st...  new fan cards will no longer be issued............   pasted as below......  so does anyone have any idea as to what the new cards will involve, how it will work etc???

From May 31 2008 we will no longer issue new Fan Cards. If you are an existing Fan card holder your card will remain active. You will still be able to apply for tickets and have your attendance recorded.

From 1st July 2008 we will be launching a new membership scheme with a new card design and technology. This scheme will offer you a whole host of new benefits including exclusive access to match tickets.

I rang customer services about 10 minutes ago, and its a case of welcome to the Hicks and Gillets new revenue stream..........

this is how it will work , the main details

1) New fancard will cost 29 quid .,,,,,,,,,,,,,  per season....   wtf
2) It will give the fan "better" access to match tickets via the secondary ticket exchange
3) PTS will still exist
4) End of next season all fancards will be phased out and everyone will be "invited" to join the new fancard scheme at £29 per season
she didnt say if the new card would be required to gain access to the ground....
as for the ticket exchange, its an illusion, ....  how many fans will not have friends to sell their unwanted tickets to ....  the number of tickets on this exchange will be minimal.....  because we dont have compulsory auto cup scheme , there will not be a surplus of tickets for a ticket exchange unlike at the mancs....



oh and you get the usual cheap nasty pens and pencils and magazines chucked in for the £29 fee.........

I think, that they will introduce these new fancards as electronic tickets and thus will be required to allow entry to the ground..  replacing paper based tickets........ just a geuss

Sooner or later I'm 99 % sure that the club will start something like united/arsenal/chelsea; 25 to 40 pounds a year for some kind of membership including some shoot style merchandise and be a requisite for buying tickets.

from a commercial point of view, its unfortunately too good to turn the opportunity of generating so much money.. Amazed that it hasn't been introduced yet; either the people in charge care about the supporters or they are just plain stupid work-wise

Bet this is just another version of the ticketless PTS, but for Fancard Holders.  Gut feeling, there will be a fee, but i don't think (or hope) it will be the death of PTS.  I'm on PTS and reckon that that the ticketless system is a step in the right direction.   It makes it a lot harder for touts to get hands on tickets and get rid of them.

Will probably be like the manc system, where "exclusive access to tickets" means you pay £30 per season or whatever to be allowed in to a ballot for every game, with the ballot being held behind closed doors, and a 1 in 10 chance of a ticket.

The 'exclusive access to tickets' is the key here.

There will almost certainly be some sort of annual membership fee, possibly in the region of £30-50 and only people on this scheme will be able to apply for tickets in the first instance. And it will probably be one ticket per membership.

Existing Fancards will probably still be able to apply for tickets, but only in the event of any being available after sales to Members.

So in a nutshell, if you want any tickets next season, you will have to pay in advance for the privelige.

I imagine it will fit it between a PTS sale and a general sale. So it will go something like:

PTS
Fancard/Members (probably via ballot, paying £30ish per season for the privilege)
General Sale (if anything left from the above, which will be almost never)

I've got someone on standby to check out for my PTS Waiting list letter to arrive, I hope to god I get on that during the summer.

I've got a bad feeling this is going to be something similar to Man United's "One United" membership where you have to be on the scheme to apply for tickets and can only apply for 1 ticket per membership in a ballot with no gaurentee of getting a ticket. Could mean people who went to all 18 this year only get to go to 6 or 7 next season.

I hope to god I'm wrong!! I'd rather stick with "All our operators are busy" please

I can see it being a "You keep your fancard if you like. Dont pay anything. BUT if you want *insert special treatment here* you must join up.

I'm not sure where all this membership stuff is coming from, but that statement to me simply says they're finally impementing electronic access and from next season you'll need a fancard to buy a ticket. They've presumably stopped issuing new ones as every existing fancard will need to be replaced with ones either containing RFID chips or a different magnetic swipe.

Hopefully they'll get rid of the frankly stupid "receipt" that still goes through the postal system and instead have small machines at each turnstile that can quickly print off a till-style receipt with your block, row and seat number on it. Then maybe have one or two further machines in each concourse that, when your card is swiped or touched to a pad, will tell you your seat if you forget or lose the receipt.

Could be something like the PTS being turned into a "gold membership". Fan cards being silver/bronze or similar. If the club charges 40 pounds a piece, thats 8 mp a year. it will come..

They could be looking at implementing some kind of system to allow non-season ticket holders access to away tickets. We seem to be one of the few clubs that doesn't have a scheme along those lines.

Not that it paticularly effects me but it wouldn't be a massive surprise if they introduced a scheme like that.

If you take out season tickets, away tickets hospitality etc, I assume the club has something in the region of 10-15000 tickets on open sales per game. Very roughly that would be 7 mnp in gross revenues. If they sell 200000 of these fan cards, chip in some touting exchange, thats the revenue doubled..

Its from the milking textbook and there will be more to come...  The club selling hospitality tickets for down to 70 pounds - sold out during the summer - Could probably start at 150 and still sell out.
