Paco Ayestaran, Benfica's new assistant coach
« on: May 30, 2008, 12:28:39 AM »
Ex-Liverpool Paco signed a two year (I think...) contract today :)
By the way, Quique Flores is the new manager.

A bit surprised but not shocked since i've always gotten the impression that Quique Sanchez Flores models himself after Rafa.

The guy in the grey suit is clearly trying to model himself on Mourinho :P

But good luck to Pako. Sad to see him not in the Liverpool set up, but nice to see he found a good club anyway

Wasn't the reason he left Liverpool because he wanted more authority?  I thought he was going to make the step up to manager now, not another assistant manager position.

Yeah, he fell out with Rafa because he wanted/tried taking more authority?  I remember reading this somewhere in a Rafa interview.

Something very disturbing about that photo. Maybe it's their pose or as mentioned, the Mourinho lookalike or the fella on the end :P

Shame it had to be this way. Best of luck, Pako.

that shiny jacket makes him look like a model in a 1980's Top Man campaign, with Nigel Clough. Bet he wears Insignia gel too!

Anyway, good luck Pako & with Sammy Lee, hopefully onwards & upwards.

Yeah, he fell out with Rafa because he wanted/tried taking more authority?  I remember reading this somewhere in a Rafa interview.
Two things.....yes Rafa felt Pako had let a bit of power go to his head a little at Liverpool, but the straw that broke the camel's back was this confidence/arrogance manifesting itself as Pako being chummy with Mourinho. THAT'S what Rafa referred to as "almost a betrayal" and what did for their working relationship in the end.

Very unlikely.
There is this rumour about Benfica being interested in an ex-Liverpool player who drinks sangria and plays for Atlético Madrid (;)), but that's probably bullshit.

Another rumour says we are interested in a few Valencia players, like Albelda.

Exactly I thought that part of the argument with Rafa was that Pako went for a sly Interview for Director of Football at Sociedad behind Rafa's Back. Now he's just an assistant again ?  anyway all the best Pako.
