It was as well as I've seen them play this season, interesting that it should come against such an experienced side. They've seemed to me to have been struggling for a bit of the fluency that the U18s amongst them had last year but it looked to have come back today. Maybe they just needed the challenge? It'll be interesting to see how the Nextgen match goes next week, obviously with a couple of changes from today's lineup.

I used to take my son to watch the reserves when they played their matches in Warrington, I thought Pacheco & Nemeth were nailed on to succeed out of that bunch - you never can tell.

True. Only thinking the other day the last time one of these talented youngsters from abroad made the first team and stayed there...... :(

The samje people slagging Kenny for Carroll, and co... probably the exact same people who slatted Rafa for the likes of Lucas and Arbie. If all the new signings come good, they won't learn a lesson. They'll just move onto the next scapegoat. I suppose I have a nerve even commenting, as I haven't been to a game since Rafa was sacked and Hodgson was brought in. But that's the sort of thing that had ruined it for me. Not moaning. I've always been used to that from sections of our support, but when they took to blatantly booing our own and worse, that was it for me. And it wasn't just kids at it. I seen middle aged fellas who should have known better screaming abuse at Rafa and the players. It knocked something out of me. I couldn't bear being round it and near got meself into a few scrapes. I'm getting a bit long in the tooth for the fisty cuffs at the match malarkey.
The difference is the attitude Fats. I didn't like the signing of Carroll with the team we had then, and would still have like to see a different kinda player up front for us. And I will be happy to chat and gripe and laugh about it with good reds, all the while hoping to see the chap smash in a few to make me a fool. I don't know better than Kenny, I just love to talk footie.

The current media fed hoards are more interested in straight line idea's. He's a c*nt, she's a waster, blagh. It's with everything now. Using a small degree if nous is lost, people aren't interested in learning anymore, just knowing. I see it in music when lads tell me they are music heads because they go to 12 gigs a year/month/week. They miss the exclusive, the times when  you had the money for one album and that was that, you needed to read NME or Rolling stone, or go to your mates gaff and take a real listen to a few of his to make the right choice.

See I'm a nutball, I will spend hours in secondhand booksops looking for books that I can afford ten of in a proper bookshop. I just love the decisionmaking in making that choice. In a world were you're out of it for not having the next gen phone and knowing what's hot on facebook, choice is lost.
Why are you looking past this season?

Talking of music... went to see Van the Man on Sunday night. If he comes anywhere near you, go see him if you can. I haven't seen him in such good form in years, and for Van, he was absolutely loving it, well, he said more than five words all night and even smiled once or twice. But, the miserable little fucker was bang on form, a real treat.

MA and da have seen him about 10 tens over the years, best they got was a smile and 4 extra songs. Said to be back to his live best lately though.

The man is a giant, a real major. His voice and songs remind me of summer trips to the beach in my youth, Wavelength, Tuplo Honey--magic.
Rarely has someone carried my away so cleanly and serenely. The man is something special, like a true composer, and will never be truely repeated.

Check out his duo with The Band, When I Paint My Masterpiece, from their time in the big red. Apperenty he just called in, and having never played with then, went down to the basement and produced one of the greatest one off pieces i've ever heard.

Genius.

No matter how old they get you always want your kids to do well.

My youngest son is a journalist and he applied for the job recently working on the editorial team on the LFC website. He has got a degree in English Language and Lingusistics, passed his full journalist qualifications at the fist attempt and has just on 6 years experience working for a large regional newspaper. He is a passionate red and goes the game and ticked every single box on the job advert but... he didnt even get an interview. Fair enough I tried to tell him, they must have got a lot of talented people applying.

Then he told me tonight that Brian Reade's son got the job who apparently is only just out of training. I'm wondering just which part of having your dad as a sports journalist for a national newspaper went in his favour?

Anyway.... good luck to the lad.

Your son must be gutted, feel sorry for him.

I love him mate. Been into him for as long as I can remember. Obviously anyone who produces so much will knock the odd duff one out. But he's defo up there with the best. Heard that Leonard Cohen one, The Tower of Song? Van's right up there on the top floor.

I'm off to watch that Bruno film on Channel 4. Hope he doesn't remind me of Torres too much. I reckon we'd be in top 4 with him playing under Kenny. I wouldn't mind nicking him back for about half of what the Russkie paid.

I was lucky enough to be following the club during the Shankly times, remember the news breaking of his retirement and Sir Bob taking over, and the Smokin' Joe.  Magical times that I didn't truly appreciate at the time.  I don't mean I didn't realise what was going on, but when you look back it is like another world.

Things are undoubtedly different now - can't say it has changed for the better really.  More money certainly, but that has in it's way ruined the game and the monopoly that Sky has over it is unhealthy.

Still love the club though, love Kenny and feel ridiculously protective towards them and their reputations.  I also believe he can get the club heading back towards where we being - if he gets the time to do so, so maybe still feeling like that means that nothing has really changed that much at all!  :scarf

Well love, you're not on your own with the view that today's game has been gutted and kippered. It's down to the money, the suits, the butty-dippers and the "visionary leadership" of the soul-less Premier League mob.

Arseholes to all of the hangers-on sez me but sad to say, they've got their claws sunk so deep in the underbelly of our game that in dragging them away out of it, its guts, heart and soul must surely follow. Bastards.

I know this place has changed for the worse but it is just a reflection of the terraces or prawn sandwich viewing bays,  we now have people who want success yesterday and even a trophy the other week hasnt placated them, this mindset is of course foisted on them by the Sky takeover of the game.
For me I think more and more sod it why dont I get more involved in my second love Ice Hockey and bin this game for good, but then I look at our manager and read some posts in here and elsewhere and it reignites my passion again.
As for the main boards in here seem to have been taken over by a new brigade of people who go in for witchhunts on specific players and far too many wanting rid of Kenny. I want no part of them or the patronising young turk in here less than a week who hoped he hasnt given me a heart attack with his mealy mouthed words.

Mind you Johnno it might have been better for us if your impatients fans had got their way and got Fergie sacked early in his tenure, but to be fair much as  I hate the guy you have to admire his tenacity and the way he handles the prima donna players of today as for his mind games Shanks was the master at that technique well before him.

Anyway work beckons so I need to sort out the young turks in my classrooms now.

I've got to agree with this although I don't really remember Shanks being more of a late 70s glory hunter  ;)

I was only saying to Mr Kwalitee the other day that I miss the days where the only people who saw the match were in the ground & maybe a few times a season you'd see highlights on MOTD. I saw a post the other day from someone going something like this

... I only saw the last 15 minutes but it's clear to me that Kenny should have made some subs...  ::)

My daughter's headmaster made a good point at a meeting a while back. He said the problem today is that everyone wants to express their own opinion but what they don't understand is that not all opinions should carry the same weight.

I've said it before, but, then that's me... banging on the same old, same old. But it's true, I know some great young reds, they are no different than what we were. Well, no. They're probably better. In our hey-day, we won everything, there wasn't as much to do and it didn't cost an arm an a leg to go the match. But they're there, week in, week out, carrying the torch, despite all the shite that surrounds the game. I feel sorry for them in many ways. The players are distant. They have fuck all in common. They struggle to get an atmosphere going, despite all the camera clickers. It's not easy for them. I think they should be given their due.
Since stopping going the match, I've been the states 3 times and been to see wads of bands. I don't really bother with the alehouse much nowadays. They're crap down here. If I lived at home, it would be a different story. They'd be scrapping me out The Blob, The Punch and Coopers, daily. But there's not much craic to be had in these gaffs down here. So, not going the alehouse or the match, it's surprising how the dough adds up, even though we're struggling like most people nowadays and I don't think we'll be doing much more trips and concerts for awhile.
But what I'm saying is, I have a nerve knocking some of the kids, and I think you have to draw a distinction, the people who go in the post game threads, screaming for rolling heads every time they're expectations aren't met, aren't the kids that go the games. There really is some good kids out there. I like to think, I'll start going again soon but at the moment it's a toss up between watching Van Morrison or sitting in the main stand listening to aul fellas moaning, and Van's going to win every time.
What I'm really looking forward to is, getting back into Europe and some cheap flights out of Bmouth. I love the European aways. In all truth, they've gone down aswell, but it's the closest thing to the old days. I usually take me Missus, no show without Punch. We see the same faces all the time. We've made some great mates over the years, young and old. And we have a great craic while were away. I'd recommend them to anyone, especially from our era. And I'm hoping to get to a few next season and getting the old bug and buzz back. Otherwise, it's just give in altogeher and leave them to it.

My daughter's headmaster made a good point at a meeting a while back. He said the problem today is that everyone wants to express their own opinion but what they don't understand is that not all opinions should carry the same weight.

I heard a similar exchange at work where a young lad was sounding off about all kinds and spouting crap. The Lecturer told him to be quiet as he didn't know what he was talking about. The lad replied that he couldn't tell him to shut up as he had a right to voice his opinion. The Lecturer simply said, "No you don't, you only have the right to an 'informed' opinion."

The lad didn't get it.

Can think of a few on my 'ignore list' that the above applies to.

I've said it for ages Johno... all hands know their rights but don't give a fuck about their responsibilities. But the only difference is, when we were kids we didn't know our rights. If I had, I'd have been one c**t. But I must be getting better or there wouldn't have been little star things in that word.

dont forget to bring the boys pen flag for the 1st euro away in august Leo,might need it for the shade 8)
I've got a shed full of the fuckers, well, 4. So, I never know what one to take. I love me BIG CLUB, SHIT FLAG one. It's only an aul piece of red cloth with it painted on, but it brings back great memories. I robbed a goat when we went to Athens, put a liverpool scarf on it, (predictably) called it our kid. We was on some island, Skiathos. Brilliant trip. Our Kid eat the corner of the flag. I always laugh just thinking of it. Can't beat them Euro trips. But I'm hoping we're in the States and not the early stages of the UEFA. I'm sticking pennies away. Just never said nothing yet, but I'm hoping, well, praying, to get to them games. I reckon it will be a right craic, New York, Chicago, Boston. Might make a new flag...

Love your posts FS......i'm not that "auld" yet (well that's debatable if you ask the kids!) But me and Mrphil have had a boss "red" life going to matches home and away in the past. Not so much now as we have 4 kids. I agree tho that the aways are boss. Without wishing their little lives away, when the sprogs have all grown up we can't wait to get back to going to all the matches  :)
There's been many mountains to climb but I can smell Justice.......soon our 96 reds will rest in peace JFT96

It's true there's some good youngsters around amongst our support. I was very proud of my daughter's class at school a while back. They were analysing some newspaper articles & the reds amongst them told the teacher off for bringin in the S*n & refused to work from it. They then went on to explain why thus meaning that they had to be given another lesson to finish the actual work!

If you've not read this thread, FS , there's lads & lasses trying to do things correctly.

I was in the Main Stand at the weekend and it was certainly quite poignant looking at the Kop without any banners. Shows what can be done when people pull together.

Leo I love the younger ones who get the game, make sure they can if I can, also love me music, get there as much as I do footy & i get to a lot of footy (have seen Van enough times too, even Berlin) but just can't help but think this gaff is full of know it all blerts who are rwally clueless c*nts.

Anyway just got the new Springsteen album blurring!

That's the problem mate. We have to remember this is the internet. I'm watching Barca. It's a treat, something that doesn't come along very often. How many of them off here are watching it now, and thinking why can't Charlie Adam play like Messi and then will be screaming it after our next set back. But there's plenty of good posters on here. There's some people who's opinions I like to take in. It's like being in the alehouse... ignore the knobs.
That's 45 for Barca now, 4 for Messi, it's getting boring. Why can't Messi play like Adam now and again.

just got back from my first visit to the O2 - christ I didn't think it was so big - I thought I'd hate it and come away appalled at how plastic it all was -  brilliant night loved every minute - and the High Kings played fields of Athenry must be pool supporters - my Mrs gave me a right dig when I was belting King Kenny and Steve Heighway on the wing....... - I dont think the good folk around me were overjoyed with me warbling at the top of my voice either - I enjoyed it though gave me goose bumps - just gave every body else earache  :)

that charlie adam thread is a belter, saw Geoff and FS trying to fight the good fight - bloody hell I despair at times good job I'm in a good mood

Glen Johnson putting out in the public what everybody in football already knows, about Luis. Mad to see the Daily Mail defending Lpool but really is good to see what Glen has to say, if only to show the support for Luis within the club.

Is it that bad? Seemed like a decent argument going on in there. You know a clash of opinions about a player. What's new? Somebody said - might have been Geoff actually - that it was terrible to see everyone knocking Kenny. Well it would be if it were true. It wasn't though. No one was knocking him. Unless loads of posts have been removed?

Not to drag it in here, but it has been a good discussion Yorky. My only problem with it... smart arses thinking they know better than Kenny. I've no doubt he sees all the problems us mugs see and is working hard to rectify them. I make no bones about the fact, that Im gutted Rafa wasn't left to finish what he started. I miss the lad something rotten and the rotten way we treated him near done for me. But I know, or in my opinion, there was only Kenny that could stop the civil war that was going on. Rafa said so himself. And I know how desperate Kenny is to suceed in the job. He's already shown by dropping Carra, that sentiment won't stand in his way. He's cut dead wood out, and I'm sure he'll carry on doing so. Charlie Adam will either cut it or be gone, but the thread, and Charlie, has been used by some people to batter Kenny and slyly undermine him. I seen that lead to the appointment of Hodgson. I'm not saying it could happen again. I'm just pissed off that we seem to have learned nothing, and, so, we're in danger of doing it all again. If we keep shooting ourselves in the foot we'll eventually cripple ourselves beyond recovering.

I'm with you Fats. I know there's the odd snide comment about Kenny and, sure enough, it wouldn't be the first time that someone gets at the manager by attacking one of his players. But I think on the whole that many supporters have genuine concerns about Charlie Adam (you do yourself!) and there was a decent enough debate going on. Nothing brilliantly illuminating for sure, but I don't see why it would cause anyone to "despair". On the contrary the main argument seemed to be that Kenny had been left a rotten hand in central midfield through the injuries to Lucas and Gerrard.

I just said it in the thread Yorky, a lot of them will need replacing pretty soon but I don't think Charlie is the most pressing problem. Best leave him where he is though... back in that thread. In a 2 man central midfield, that's a different kettle of fish, but we can discuss that in the other thread.
