What a gesture
« on: April 21, 2008, 04:46:24 PM »
Not sure if this is in the right place....

As we all know Liam Harker is a very seriously ill young man.
His story has touched many people on here and there are some others who like my family and i who know how Liam's poor family feel.
My brother Ian has lung and brain cancer and although not as poorly as Liam is not in great shakes.
Some people on here have IM me some lovely messages and have also emailed Newcastle United (god knows why he supports them) asking if they can sort something out.
Well today i received a phone call from them inviting Ian and 3 others up to their last home game v Chelsea and after to meet the players and manager Kevin Keegan. I was stunned and completely overwhelmed that Ian will enjoy such a wonderful day and 1  he and us will never forget.
What a fantastic gesture from Newcastle United and thank-you to everyone who has been in touch and helped.

We will eagerly await those pictures of your brother even if they *are* backdropped by St James’ Park ;) I expect he will be photographed with Mickey Owen. That, at least, makes it a little bit Liverpoolish!

Great to hear the Toon helping out.

No coincidence that their manager is an ex-red, their captain is an ex-red, and quite a few of their staff over the last few years are ex-reds. (Dalglish, Souness, McDermott, Keegan first time round).

They know what football is all about. It's about making people happy as the saying goes!

Respect to Newcastle.

The geordies' aren't my favorites, but fair play to them for sorting that out.

Nice gesture.

Good for Ian, and good for Newcastle.  They're a team I've always followed and despite their regular Keystone Cops routine both on and off the pitch, I've always thought they were quality.  Nice to see any team look beyond the dollar sign and see where the real heart of the game is.

I echo those who ask for pictures.  I'd love to see a great big grin from Ian!
You can all quote me on this.

We will finish in a CL slot this season regardless of today's result.

Thanks everyone your comments are well appreciated.
Best thing is Ian does not have a clue and wont until we get to the station on the day and even then he wont know he is to meet the players and Kevin Keegan until the final whistle.
I might also sneak in my 1977 European shirt for him to sign! ;D

Thanks

One of the nice things about football - hope he has a great day!
Football has reached the ninth gate of farce and pathetic, unbelievable trite nonsense. It's supposed to be a game and it's turned into pantomime, hype, quilts and bellends.
