Really, it's getting fucking out of hand now. I'm FAIRLY savvy, and don't give out the email address on dodgy sites etc, but it's now getting to the point where I'm getting in excess of 100 junk emails a day. Of course, I have entourage set to put them in the junk folder, but you still need to waste time having a look at the titles, just in case the junk protection, which I have turned up high, has junked anything you DO need to see.

But beyond that. What is the fucking point. Really.

Does ANYONE in the entire world see an email with "make your penis 10" longer" and actually click on it?

Does ANYONE respond to "I seen you online and would love to meet you, I am a 18 year old russian girl?"

What is the fucking point. Surely people are using up time (albeit it much is automated, but someone has to write them), bandwidth etc to send them - and they just get completely ignored. Why do the people sending them bother - they couldn;t be making any money from them?

How bad is it going to get in the future? Every new junk mail filter comes out, there is junk mail that can get past. Is there going to be a point in 10 years where I'll be getting 2000 junk mails a day?

When will it fucking end.

PS - If you send junk mail, if you respond to them, if you are fucking dumb enough to send a "if you send this to 10 people you love, something nice will happen" to 10 of your poor fucking unfortunate friends who will now be plagued by junk mail for the rest of their lives

Fucking hate these chain mails, break this and you'll have bad luck for 10 years!

I keep getting Viagra ones, piss me off as you do have to look through them to check there isn't any wanted mail there.

I fucking hate chain mail shite, remember one I got saying if you don't repost this your dad will die in a traffic accident. Made me smile, at least it's a bit more original than a year of bad luck.

Doesn't the mac have some sort of magical junk mail filter that just works? You know the sort, was built into Outlook effectively around ten years ago. I get zero junk emails on my work email addy.

Yes, that's the one that puts 100 junk mails a day into entourage (new version of outlook) junk folder. Which you then have to check every day anyway in case it's junked something that's not junk (for example, I'll often find paypal payments from unrecognised addresses in there, or even emails from RAWK members.) You can train it to recognise and not junk emails from domains, but there are almost endless domains as well, so you can't filter out everything.

Plus, of course, there are the ones which appear from, for example Natwest, or even ones which say they're from your own email address - you know they're not for (or from) you - but a junk filter will not filter them out. Ditto for many foreign language ones.

Nidge - have you tried bouncing them? I never sign up for anything under my proper email - I use one on Hotmail that I've set up specifically for that purpose.

However, I started getting some spam to my primary email address a month or so ago. I bounced it as soon as I received it and (sometimes) it seemed to work - I didn't receive any 'could not be delivered' message.

The spam seems to have stopped now - perhaps the bot will stop sending to addresses that bounce the original email?
