Oh the irony, of some quilts on here!

Moaning about out of towners yet marching under the name of Shankly.

Fucking hilarious, probably lost on them though.

No one at the meeting was moaning about Out of Towners as far as I'm aware.

Bit of a tangent, but doesn't really warrant a new thread...

Nice bit of Orwellian misinformation on BBC North West Tonight earlier - Tony Livesey did a piece on 'the current crisis at Anfield', that started off with:

"It's becoming a bit too much for the Kop to take. 19 points off the top of the Premier League, bopped on the nose by Havant & Waterlooville, and now knocked flat out by Championship Barnsley..."

However, the opening was read over footage of the (Barnsley) anti-G&H protest, therefore making it look like the demonstration was anti-Benitez.

To add insult to injury, it then listed our managers from Shankly to Evans but missed out Dalglish, claiming instead that "Joe passed it to Roy..."

Then there was a "Who do you blame" vox pop, with several 'fans' all too eager to stick the boot into Rafa in typical fuckwitted style. Then it closed with a clip of Rafa from the pre-Inter press conference, with Livesey slyly ridiculing Rafa by asserting that "failure [against Inter] would be just another fine mess that one of the world's greatest clubs seems to be increasingly getting itself into."

(Anyone particuarly masochistic can probably view it for themselves at http://www.bbc.co.uk/northwesttonight/ )

Admittedly, one shouldn't expect more from a former Sunday Sport editor who regards his own legacy as "coming up with the headline 'Shoots You, Sir' about the murder of Gianni Versace". However, I thought it was worth highlighting another example of the G&H protests being cynically misreported - might be worth considering some countermeasures, eg trying to ensure pro-Rafa banners are visible during demos. And, of course, in this instance, one can always complain about Livesey's devious crapness at nwt@bbc.co.uk

Sorry lads but what do we get for our £10 joining fee

Unions subs go into a business account which is being looked after by EDT http://www.edt.org.uk/ , from which they are deducting a nominal fee per subscription which takes care of accounting costs, admin, database of all members etc, its a separate, non-profit organistation who will be looking aftet union funds.

Where else will your money go?

A small amount will pay for the website, leaflet costs, possible adverts in press, generally a fighting find to keep the the union and its aims on the public eye, as it is unrealistic to think that the current publicity we are recieving, 99% of it in our favour, will not become less newsworthy in the interim, we need to stay in the public eye in order to keep pressure on the club in regards to its current mismanagement and mistreatment of its stakeholders (us), and also ensure that our aims that have been outlined remain acheivable.

The bulk of the funds, as I understand it, will go towards providing our members with cost benefits in regards to travelling to and from away games, at home and in Europe, by using strength in numbers to negotiate discount, and also have any capital available to even go as far as chartering flights at a massive discount, at the very least we hope to provide far cheaper coach travel than what is currently available.

Obviously all members will receive membership cards and a Sons Of Shankly badge, invites to meetings, regular email updates on what is going on, and possible motions that may need voting on in regards to moving forward, as inevitbly, things are currently changing on a daily basis in regards to the ownership issue etc.

Sorry if i cannot not go into any further detail, as the above is merely scratching the surface, but it I don't want to get anything wrong, and the above is only off the top of my head.

Obviously the persons who control any money going out of the Union will be an elected member of the commitee which will be voted on by all members in the near future, once our bank accounts are active and we have the infrastruce in place to get the ball rolling.

Any other questions in regards to the above, do not hesitate to pm me.

Hope this answers at least part of your question.

Thanks

Andy

1) Should I be buying a prog tonight or not ?

2) Should I be buying any food or beverage inside the ground ?

Don Vito Corleone
Firstly thanks for the info Andy. I appreciate the hard work you and the other provisional committee members are putting in to set this all up, cheers comrades. Sorry but as a long time lurker and occasional poster i don't think my post count is high enough that i can PM you, but I'll try again anyway.
As the membership grows do you think it will be possible to vote on union issues securely through the website ?, as I'm sure there will be many who join that can't attend midweek meetings in person, or can only attend matchday meetings like last Saturday. How would the entire membership vote on crucial issues ?
Another thing I wondered was the £10 membership fee, why so low ? The OLSC membership is £36 and all you get annually is a DVD, pennant, pencil or some other tat, with a quarterly mag.
This seasons effort was particularly shite & penny pinching. Would it be reccomended by SOS not to renew any existing OLSC membership maybe ?
I'd much rather the LSU/SOS receive that £36 pound and use it to fund the website, leaflets & newspaper adverts but also Giant Banners.
Any official word on the possible name change from Sons to Spirit of Shankly ? and the next meeting ?. Ramble over.
again cheers Don Vito.

The Crest design is excellent, great work kitster lad,  Don't you think it would be very appropriate and to show the union with HJC & HFSG; if instead of the white bars or empty space, there were a small justice flame on each side ?.
It would be good to see this addition before the badges & leaflets are finalised or the website modified. should I submit it as an official motion or something ?.    JFT96

I was wondering that as well. It's a poor show if it didn't happen simply because everyone was too giddy at the result to remember that there's still anger to be expressed and a point to be made. I stuck around waiting for it but everyone just filtered out.

I grabbed a handful of leaflets last Saturday after the meeting and handed them out as people came through the turnstiles for block 306.

I think its something everyone can get involved in.

Spread the word, easiest thing in the world to do.

I've found a fair bit of misunderstanding on the movement so far, some think it's about backing Rafa, others that it's just about yanks out.

The Aims of What will become the Spirit of Shankly were motioned and unanimously passed by those present today.

They are:-

CONSTANT AIMS

  • To represent the best interests of our members and by extension the best interests of supporters of Liverpool Football Club on both the local and international level
  • To hold whoever owns the football club to account

IMMEDIATE AIM

  • To rid the club of Tom Hicks and George Gillett

SHORT TERM AIMS

  • To institute a functioning structure for the Sons (Spirit) of Shankly
  • To create long lasting relationships with all aspects of Liverpool FC's supporting community
  • To improve the quality of service for Liverpool FC's supporters
  • To improve the standard and value of travel arrangements for Liverpool FC's supporters

MEDIUM TERM AIMS

Thanks

Andy
