Could barely take my eyes off the two matches this afternoon despite needing to do work in the library. Stevens did really well despite a great effort from Hawkins, but the Trump/Carter match, dear me! That'll take some beating this year. Interestingly, it's kicking off a bit with them and their post-match comments. I like both so it's difficult, but it's nice to see Ali finally doing so well, with his appearance at the final as well... in 2008, was it?
I'm delighted that Stevens and Day are both making a comeback at this year's event. One of them will definitely be in the semis which is great stuff indeed. Would have probably fancied Day before the match today but thought Stevens played some excellent stuff, so with his experience I'll actually back him to shade it. I think the winner of O'Sullivan/Robertson is clear favourite for that semi though, but then anything could happen. So difficult to call that one, I'll give Robertson the slightest of advantages... call it about 51-49% in his favour. Really hope he goes through because I like him quite a lot and dislike Ronnie a whole lot.
The top half of the draw is less entertaining unfortunately, but I'd like to see Carter go through to the semis in his game, though it's nice to see a rookie like Jones make it this far and possibly further. If he gets Maguire then I'd like to see Carter make the final too, and I'll be hoping he wins it if he comes up against Ronnie (but not against any of the other three).
Then we have Maguire/Hendry. I would love it, just love it, more than anything else, for Stephen Hendry to win the whole thing. I think he stands a good chance in this quarter final. I don't think he'll go through, truth be told, but it's not an easy one to call. Should be fairly close, hopefully. And if he was to win this then you'd just have to wonder... I think he'd be well up for the semi and quite possibly win it. Seeing him in another final would be enough, it would be incredible.
Something like Hendry vs Robertson in the final would just be perfect.
