Lets start looking forward to the next game and try to be positive.

Obviously we need a win or we can forget any arguing over ticket allocations come next May. We have been poor in the CL so far but we are at our most dangerous with our backs to the wall. The CL starts here as far as LFC are concerned with every game a cup final as they say.

Beşiktaş are a tidy side with good technical players but they should be no match for us home or away. In the away leg we made too many defensive errors (untypically for us) and couldn't find the drive to get ourselves back into the game. I'm sure the players will want the chance to put things right and as luck would have it, Tuesday night will come round quickly.

As for the team well I'm no good at Fantasy Rafa but I'd go with:

Reina
Finnan
Carragher
Hyypia
Arbeloa
Benayoun
Gerrard
Mascherano
Babel
Kuyt
Crouch

Subs
Itandje
Riise
Hobbs
Kewell
Sissoko

Kuyt and Crouch would be  up front and Babel on the left.  Dont think Rafa will rush Kewell....maybe he will come in after 60mins

I'm hoping we won't need him. Kewell as the impact player with Momo available to stop them if we need to defend a lead.

In what appears to be another must win game; lets go at them from the start,

Most attacking team I can think of;

                                                         Reina

Finnan                            Arbeloa                   Carragher                       Aurelio

Benayoun                     Gerrard                     Lucas                            Kewell

                                     Crouch                     Kuyt

I'd play Crouch and Kuyt upfront, no need for pace when they'll be pinned in their own half all the time.

               Reina
Arbeloa Carra Sami Aurelio(if fit)
Yossi Lucas Momo Gerrard
          Kuyt Crouch

Score early and we'll win at a canter.  The longer it goes without a goal I fear the atmosphere will go down like a lead balloon....and with confidence at a low, I'm a little worried if that happens.

Rafa will start with 2 of our between the line strikers.  We'll be clueless in front of 10 men defense during the course of 82 mins until Crouch is on and we'll score at 89 mins.

1-0 to the Reds.

Typical.

Beşiktaş did not have good week at all. Lost in Turkey Cup due to poor reserve team appearance. Then lost against Fenerbahce. (Ref disallowed a goal due to fictive fault) Team will need to win to prove their self again and to get spirit up again. Therefore either they will perform really well or ... I don't wanna think about otherwise.

Massive, massive game this.

I think however, that if the boys approach it professionally and without too many nerves or pressure we've got enough to beat these at home. to be honest they weren't that great at their place - their first goal was lucky. Carra and Sami will have to look for those balls down the side, and our FB's will have to be on their game..

Think Rafa was clever in trying to take some of the presure off -

"Rafael Benitez insists it will not be 'the end of the world ' if Liverpool fail to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages but is confident his side can turn their fortunes around if they show the right belief".

http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N157573071104-1106.htm

Think we need to play an attacking line up, as they will sit back and wait to hit us on the break (since they know we need to win it). Would go with:

-------------Reina------------
Arbeloa-Carra-Sami-Aurelio
-----------Masch-------------
-----Gerrrard-Lucas---------
------Babel--Benayoun-----
----------Crouch--------------

Bench:

Itandje, Hobbs, Riise, Momo, Kewell, Kuyt, Voro

May look similar to the team that drew at Ewood, but I reckon the diofferences are important  - Arbeloa and Aurelio are better going forward and we can use them to give us width in the attack - something I think we lacked against Blackburn. Lucas offers more in possession than Momo - and I think we will have plenty of possession. Crouch can hold the ball up better than Kuyt and bring the likes of Babel, Lucas, Gerrard and Benayoun into play.

Kewell to come on second half if needed.

Beşiktaş JK defender Gökhan Zan is set to miss the UEFA Champions League encounters with Liverpool FC and Olympique de Marseille after tearing ligaments in his right foot.

Month out
The 26-year-old was substituted 13 minutes into Saturday's 2-1 defeat by Fenerbahçe SK and has been ruled out for a month. That will leave him sidelined on Tuesday for the trip to Liverpol in Group A, and he faces a tall order to return when Marseille come to Istanbul on 28 November. Already out for this week's fixture were Rodrigo Tello, with a sprained ankle, and Márcio Nobre due to a pulled hamstring.

Think we'll beat these pretty comfortably on Tues.

I wasn't that impressed with them in Turkey and if we start Crouch with probably kuyt off him then I think we can pressure that defence into some mistakes.

2-0 and on to Porto.

I was pretty sure yesterday that Crouch wouldn't start against Blackburn, because despite anything Rafa has said to the contrary, he's still very keen to qualify for C.L second stage, and was 'saving' crouch for this game.

I feel certain he'll start this game given their lack of height in defence.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Sami rested for this one.

Idiot!! Andy Gray. Momo has the energy that SG does not have. Some people dont deserve LFC. On sat SG gave the ball  away twice as much as momo and did not defend like momo. Momo allows the full backs to attack to. I get so p off with our 'fans' Muppets !

Can see Rafa using as many of the 'seasoned' Euro players as possible.

Fairly sure that means a start for Riise;

Tough game... get a goal early and we should be ok.

I'd select:

                       Reina

Finnan          Carra          Sami         Arbeloa

  Gerrard          Mascherano      Sissoko      Riise

                    Kuyt           Crouch

(But have a nasty feeling it will be Voronin instead of Crouch  :()

Beşiktaş fan here...also a Livepool supporter in Europe.

As a fan, I'll always hope for the best but  I think it will be an easy game for Liverpool.

As Chindits pointed out, one of our central defenders, Gokhan Zan managed to  injure himself this weekend. The problem is that he was our best defender in the air. Now that he's out, I expect Crouch to have a walk in the park all day long. Plus, Chilean international Rodrigo Tello is left in Istanbul because of injury. He was our best player this season, the energizer bunny in the midfield and the primary option for corners and all kinds of set plays. Brazilian Nobre is also injured but that doesn't really matter. Having 2-3 key players injured may not affect a team like Liverpool much because of the depth of the squad but it does matter for us.

In addition, there' s a lot of turmoil going on because of some scandalous referee decisions against Beşiktaş in the league this season and the team's moral is low.

Having said those, I don't think it would be much different even without the injuries and the other stuff since there's a sizable quality gap between two teams.

The main problem for us will be the pace of Liverpool. The faster the game the bigger the scoreline will be in favor of Liverpool, in my opinion. We can defend fairly well when the game is slow but the Premier League pace at Anfield is something else.

The second biggest problem will be Crouch,  with the crosses, corners and set plays. Not to mention Gerrard's strikes and overall explosiveness  of course. If we concede a goal in the first 25-30 minutes (and I think we will) the game will be over and I'd expect something like 3-0 at the end of the game. If somehow we manage to end the first half 0-0, then maybe, just maybe we could have a minor chance to end the game with a draw,  maybe like 1-1.  But I have to admit I don't see it happening because I don't see us scoring... well, unless Hyypia has other plans.  :)

Anyway, good luck to you and I hope for an entertaining game (but not the kind of entertaining such as  Arsenal v  Sparta Prag :) ).  And if we are beaten, I hope Liverpool wins all the remaining games and manages to qualify. ;)

Thank you starks, very good post.

We are not playing to the best of our ability right now but must win the game v Beşiktaş to stand
a chance of qualifying and I do not think it will be easy at all as your coach is a good organiser tactically
but I think we can win and score at least two goals which I hope will be enough.
We also have injury problems but we expect to still field a strong side.

I hope you enjoy the game whatever the result, it would be great if somehow both teams could make the next
stage but time will tell.

Cheers.
It's true to say that if Shankly had told us to invade Poland we'd be queuing up 10 deep all the way from Anfield to the Pier Head.

Beşiktaş will boycott the league after the wrong decisions of referee in fener game. the goal of Beşiktaş in 90th min is dissallowed because of a wrong foul decision.. Beşiktaş spent 6 clear chances of goal and played 1 of the best games of the season, smashing fenerbahçe in their home but after the sequential wrong decisions which effect the scores of the matches (during last weeks), the chairmen decided to play the forthcoming matches with reserve players. all the comentators and the club are in doubt about the good intention of FA...

I think the biggest thing we need to see from liverpool on tuesday is a big reaction , lets hope we see something we havent or seen very little of this season a top performance and plenty of goals, Beşiktaş are a nice little team but surely its time to turn this season round and tuesday is ideal .

Jesus, that's pretty full-on. And we complain about Rafa's rotation...

Thanks for posting here Beşiktaş fans, good to get the turkish perspective.

I'd start with Crouch and Kewell and take off Harry after 60 minutes when he is knackered.
He's a manipulative bastard. Another deliberate attempt to put pressure on people in the game, which he thinks he'll get away with because of his "standing" in the game and his fucking knighthood.

You all talk as if Kewell is some sort of geriatric, I'm sure he can last 90 minutes.
