Amazing atmosphere, that's for sure. Too bad there was no comeback for us similar to Olympiacos back in 2004.

You do realise this was in Turkey, do you not?

Fuck moi.

Off to bed to dream of better days....

Yes, and I realize Olympiacos is a team from Greece.

Can a comeback only be similar to which country it takes place in?

Same with the Koreans watching the national team, it was more like a performance.
It feels to me that they go more to sing, than to "support", with no real feeling of when to put the pressure on and when it isn't required.  Non stop singing at the same level is just repetitive and I would think easy to block out.

Still, saying that it beats no singing at all.

Amazing support yesterday. Hats off.
Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

I was hoping there would be a thread on this today, the atmos last night was boss and there is alot to be learn, especially as before the game they were bottom of the group and our own bookies had us favourites to win even though away from home.

Although it was good what do you think would hapeen if we set fireworks/flares off in the ground all the time?  Had our own PA system based in the kop and the road end?  could stand, sit bounce and basically do what we want?  I can never understand how these fans getr away with it week in week out and we cant even be arsed to all stand up together in the kop anymore (unless it's a 'big' game).

The bizzies, strewards and health and safety exec would have a field day!  I went to Marsille away when we got knocked out a few years ago and it was a sight to be seen, they set an actual fire in the home end that night!

I don't know where to start after reading some of those comments above but the atmosphere contributed to our downfall and the tactical naivety of the team was exposed for all to see.  Instead of pinging it around like a pinball, what Liverpool should have done was played it tight, careful and with plenty of composure to shush those fans up like they were shut up after Gerrard's goal.  We played into their hands as I believe Liverpool had enough to beat that team with what we had in our tank.  Once we started the high tempo stuff, it was going to be a lottery and we never played to our strengths.  You can go on about how "great" they were (I thought it was too ordered and choreographed myself with little or no sponteneity) all you like but any side deserving of this magnificent trophy should get the basics right and the basics are shutting off the atmosphere.  And that required taking the heat and passion out of the game, at least for the first half.

Agree with:

'I thought it was too ordered and choreographed myself with little or no sponteneity'

However what i was trying to say is that many of these clubs in Europe have the ability and opportunity to do these things, to choreograph stuff, get tannoys in their end, set fireowrks etc off, however over here we can't even smoke in the ground anymore without people getting banning orders.

Aye, they don't have the two most dangerous words in the English language to contend with the way we do.  Those two words being "Health and Safety"!

Amazing support, fuck knows how they can jump like whole of the game, i was knackered and dizzy at everton that was just that last few minutes lol.

To me there chant's sound intimidating, we dont seem to have any intimidating chants? Is there anyone that could get one going? and keep it going for like 10 minutes.

But at the end of the day they are only doing the same as us, going the game, paying their money and watching their team.  Although it did seem mad their last night, didn't see any signs of distress in the crowd and obviously they have to passed certain requirements to adhere to UEFA's alleged standards, so really what is the differnce?

Amazing support, the whistles when we had the ball for long periods was deafening. good range of songs, loved the one where one side of the ground sang then the other side sang the next bit, though it did go on for ages and got a bit annoying, though i bet people were saying that about us when we were singin rafa la bamba for about 10 minutes last season loved the one with the big shhhhhhhhhh aswell.

well done Beşiktaş fans. that was something else

It's hardly been a raging success, i sit there mate and spend most of my time arguing and listening to others arguing about standing up/sitting down situation.  Can't really imagine some Turk at the back of their ground last night going to speak to a steward about the fact people were standing up infront of him.

The main thing for me is that the whole crowd, whether it be one stand or not, all seemed to be as one, were in the kop at the moment, there is those in 1892 trying to stand and the rest of the kop not and this is leading to arguments.  i just think our grounds are too controlled really and it shows from things like last night and most European aways that other grounds are not.

as a Beşiktaş fan, liverpool and kop was a legend in my childhood. then i couldnt follow british football for a long time. i went to the cl final in istanbul with friends, expected a great athmosphere, we all had liverpool shirts, memorized you'll never walk alone etc. but the athmosphere  was disappointing, many liverpool fans left the stadium after half time. the only song i remember was "rafa rafael rafael benitez" few guys shouted "come on liverpool" the famous you'll never walk alone support started only when liverpool came back. i thought commercial football hit liverpool fans too. in inonu stadium, we sang more than 20 different songs per game avarage. sometimes it reaches 35 songs. in fact the last nights performance of the fans was not the best. it was a stressfull game and we couldnt sing and jump that much, we were much better in spurs game for example. anyway yesterday on a turkish tv, someone said Beşiktaş is liverpool of turkey. similar culture, similar supporter profile etc. liverpool has a great support around Beşiktaş fans. the athmosphere could be much more aggressive if the opponent was lazio for example. i am sure everybody thought to prepare an offensive banner like "you ll never walk again"  but the majority didnt want to offend liverpool. actually in Beşiktaş fan forums, we discussed to cheer for liverpool too,  but decided that there was no need to exaggrate.
yesterday we had a banner like "Beşiktaş is the last barricade against commercial football" and "non pasaran!"

Completely agree with the above.

I wish that we could create an similar atmosphere at games in this country, because it's getting towards the point of the noise being similar to what you'd hear at a musical.

Congratulations to the Beşiktaş supporters who created all that noise.

And whilst some in here may say it was orchestrated and not intimidating, it did effect our play because it would be hard for the players to yell at each other about what they are going to do, where they are going to move, who should get back..all which leads to us looking disjointed at stages.

So fair play to the Beşiktaş supporters.

Briliant post agree with nearly all of it, especially the part about keeping out commercialism. Yesterday the Beşiktaş fans showed just how bad anfield has become especially this season. The only thing id like to add is that one of the reasons the atmosphere for the cl final in Istanbul was not great was because no offence to you but there was too many people who didnt really support liverpool going along for the same reason you went and many other reasons i.e going along because it was in your home city, because its a huge occasion etc. Too many fans like me couldnt get a ticket even though they had been to every home game etc.
The distribution of tickets for an event like that is a disgrace anyway dont want to open old wounds.

well done for yesterday is it like that for league matches as well?

Here here! Very nice to hear that from Beşiktaş supporters. It really touches me that fans from another Club like in Turkey can offer so much praise to our Club. I would love to go out there and watch a derby match at the home of Beşiktaş in the future... Just to savour the atmosphere.
We can and will never match that atmosphere last night in Istanbul. It just isnt in our nature to sing in the Stadium non stop for 4 hours. Its all wasted in the pub before the match.

Hi everyone ;
i am Beşiktaş fan from istanbul.
Firstly its nice to be with you.Because we find you(Liverpool fans) close friends.
I was in the Inonu Stadium last night.
I hope Liverpool will win rest of the group matches and pass this round.
(by the way , sorry for my poor english )
Forza Beşiktaş and Liverpool.
