Marseille by Train
« on: September 27, 2007, 04:29:56 AM »
I keep searching for train times and fares on that raileurope website for 10th - 12th December from Paris to Marseille and it keeps returning with "No trains found for the time you specified. Please start a new search."

Surely there must be a rattler running from Paris to Marseille?

Anyone else looking at doing the same? Or know of any other routes I could try?

I presume most will fly for this and it's usually the norm for me, but my mate won't fly.

We drove to Toulouse, heavy journey.

I think train tickets in France only go on sale 2 months in advance. I might be wrong though. Just check a random date within 2 months if you want an idea of the fares.

08700841410 - international rail enquiries. just spoke to them. current timetable from Paris runs up to the 8th December. They are not sure when new timetable comes out but, the 1320 from paris on the 8th gets into marseille at 16.35, so its just over a 3hr train. £120 return.

Waterloo eurostar link is closing and all departures will be from St Pancras station.

I work for southwest trains based at waterloo, i went down to the eurostar ticket office on my break and they said the tickets should be available from the 15th of Oct but to check as it could be any day from the 8th.

The french aren't as good at updating their system apparently.

£120 sounds quite a good deal waterloo to marseille return (i won't mention it will cost me £50 return 1st class)  ;D

Nice one, St Pancras is easier to get to than Waterloo from Euston.

Will it not be cheaper to fly to Nice from Newcastle/Liverpool/Leeds/Brum/London and then get the train to Marseille?

It'll be a damn site quicker I know that....

It would be, yeah and I would normally do that.

But my mate is coming and he does not like flying, he's a bit Bergkamp-esque so I flew to Porto and am flying to Beşiktaş so will play fair to go on the rattler to Marseille with him for his sake.

got ours sorted the day the groups were annouced. £100 for return flights to nice and 2 nights accom in marsaille.

only problem is that we get to nice at 1400 on the day of the game and then need to sort a train out to get to marsaille. which is around £20 each way.

look at bahn.hafas.de gives you all european train times.

that date is too far in the future, but if you look at a tuesday (like today) there is no train back to nice after. you can get back to toulon but that's it.

wouldn't worry about tickets, there'll be loads about. 3000 is a large allocation.

At the mo I have found return flights for £180 all in, to Marseille from Newcastle.

To be honest it might be better doing that because once I have paid for a return to London & then £100+ for a return to Marseille via Eurostar, it works out about the same price, give or take a few quid.

It doesnt work mate.

I tried Paris > Marseille (return) Dep 11th Dec - Return 12th Dec and got the message:

Aucun train ne circule au delà de l'horaire indiqué

Which I believe means that the timetable is not up yet.

No, i have just tried now and all is OK to reserve  a Paris marseille on the 11 12 and a Marseille paris on the 12 12.
I can reserve ticket without any problem.

I think it's a problem of "time" of departure.
