Have they done it yet? Just been over the bridge to have a look.

Not the best pics in the world.

Can see Brad, Lo, Lucas, Garreth, Elli and is that Saph?

Can't find any decent webcam links to see it clearly enough.  Wish they would hurry up and get down, wish I hadn't have found out about it til tomorrow now!

I was talking to someone on the bridge and he reckoned most people had done it.

Well done to the pair of you!  You've done an amazing brave thing for a brilliant cause :thumbup

Those pictures were before we did it, because we're over on the right in the 2nd/3rd ones waiting for the instructions from the fella.

What was in the pushchair in the first picture? As Brad is holding Lucas, but you seem to be paying a lot of attention to an empty pushchair

;D we were putting the contents of our pockets in Garreth's bag, which was in the pram.

That was fun!

Photos to follow in a sec when I've sorted them out.

OK, here we go - more to follow from Brad and Lo when they get home. Thanks for coming all the way up here!

1. We abseiled off that! From the road level of the bridge to the car park next to The Boat.

2. Getting kitted out before the hike up to the top...

3. God it's high!

4. Climbing over the bridge railing was by far the scariest bit... wet metal is not fun to stand on when you're that high up!

And a couple more:

5. Halfway down, enjoying it now - and the "strings" didn't snap, which we were happy about...

6. Finished and very happy with ourselves :)

Thanks Brad and Lo for taking photos, and Lucas for being in charge of our support team and the water bottle :-*

Well done you brave pair, that looked scary!
If I could save time in a bottle
The first thing that I'd like to do
Is to save every day
'Til eternity passes away
Just to spend them with you

If I could make days last forever
If words could make wishes come true
I'd save every day
Like a treasure and then,
Again, I would spend them with you

Well done you brave pair, that looked scary!

I had assumed in signing up for this that we'd be 'walking' down one of the concrete pillar things at the end of the bridge, I had no idea it was a 'freefall' abseil at all. Looking down from the top really is as high as those pictures make it appear :)

Initially getting over that ledge and getting harnessed up and stuff was still quite nervy, but once I was away it was absolutely amazing - went whizzing down there in what seemed like no time at all (overtaking Elli on the way, who had waited for me as she'd got sorted before me... oops! :D)

Great fun, I wanted to go up and do it again!

Just by way of an update on the fundraising - we've collected a whopping £338 so far, and that doesn't include pledges that we are yet to collect, that's cold hard cash (and electronic cash in the form of Paypal donations already made). There's plenty of pledges for Elli and I to collect from friends/family/colleagues, too. With a bit of luck we'll make £500 which my company will then double to £1000 for ATE, which would just be absolutely remarkable.

Big thanks to all those people who've sent Paypal payments or who have donated in cash - we'll leave open our 'collections' until the end of the month, which will allow people time to catch up with us at the match or wait for payday and things as a few people are.

Thank you all :)

But apart from that, it was a great plan ;D

I'm completely stunned by people's generosity on this, it's raising far more than I dared to hope for. ATE will be over the moon, and so am I.

Nice job you guys!  How much did you end up with donation-wise?

We're still bringing in the funds (see above) and have a few bits and bobs of family and friends to collect from, which is not being helped by the postal strikes. I'll post the final figure on here when we eventually reach it in the next week to ten days, but it's a considerable figure, way in excess of £500 when my work double it.

Thank you to everyone for your generosity :)

Hello again :)

After a month of collecting pledges and waiting for errant monies in the post, we have a grand (and I really mean grand) total to announce, to put towards a new centre for ATE!

Your donations and those of other friends and family will, when doubled by Garreth's employers, come to:

:scarf :scarf :scarf £1240!!! :scarf :scarf :scarf

In today's world of footy players earning stupid amounts a week, that may not sound like much, but it's far more than I'd dared to hope we could raise and it will make such a huge difference to ATE's search for more funding. By showing that we're putting a lot of effort in, we'll hopefully encourage companies and people with lots of cash to help us too.

The plan now is to get the amount doubled, and a cheque written to ATE, which I'll then take with me to a staff weekend in about a month's time. There will doubtless be an update to add on here after that :)

Thank you all very, very much indeed :wave
