Liverpool v Derby: all the build up
« on: August 29, 2007, 10:32:34 am »
One for Stevie to sit out, get his rest. I was very impressed with Masch lastnight and think he should start.

Reina
Finnan
Sami
Agger
Arbeloa
Pennant
Masch
Alonso
Babel
Kuyt
Torres

Maybe even have Benayoun starting instead of Pennant or Babel for this.

4-0

If Gerrards it out of this game I'd fancy to play again with Mascherano and Sissoko but I believe Rafa will put Alonso to the starting lineup.

Reina

Finnan Hyypiä Agger Arbeloa

Benayoun Masch/Momo Alonso Babel

Torres Kuyt

I would start Lucas to see what he is like in the Prem.

Even James Milner deserves a place in the England squad before Pennant just to name one.

ame one.

Agree, Stevie won't figure as if he does he has to play the internationals.

Team will be:

------------------Reina-----------------
Finnan---Agger---Hyypia---Arbeloa
Yossi----Sissoko---Alonso----Riise
------------Torres--Kuyt---------------

Bench:
Itandje
Mascherano
Pennant
Babel
Crouch

Job done in first half easily - Final Score an easy 3-0 (potential to be 6 or 7 though i agree if we start taking all our chances)
We could buy a squashed hedgehog, put him in a dress,a little makeup ,explode him with 200 pounds of C4 then scoop the bits up,put him into a pie, cook him for 45 minutes, let it cool and put it on the halfway line and he'd be a great replacement for Cole.

He was impressive yesterday but I don't think he will be start on saturday.

Deceptive, 4-0 with two of them in the last three mins isn''t really a thrashing. Apart from which I would say a thrashing has to be at least five.

Don't expect stevie to play here. Possibly Xabi and Momo in the middle again.
Hopefully stevie sits out the internationals too and he'll be back with a bang away to pompey - which is potentially a very tough game.

Got a txt last night off a friend back at uni who supports Derby. 17th is their title this season.

He reckons that they have no chance of getting anything on saturday. They had a hard match last night in the Carling cup. Full extra time and they went out on pens in sudden death. So tired and low morale should see us all over them.

And since he wants liverpool to win the title he doesn't mind us having those 3 points. Should be a match to rest some players for the tough pompy game. Possibly a chance for so ressies to have a crack

I'll go with that. Should be easily strong enough, and it'll be interesting to see how Alonso plays with Masch, because he hasn't had that many opportunities to yet.

okay, let's not get ahead of ourselves. If Rafa and the boys show as much disrespect to Derby as is in this thread then we'll lose. No doubt we look very good at this moment in time but complacency will undo all our good work. I'd like to see Lucas and Xabi start, both will be very fresh where Masch (less so) and Momo could do with a rest, if we try to aim for everyone playing an average of a match a week the squad should be pretty fresh. I'd like to see Leto get another start as well.

After our start to the season, if i was a Derby player, i would wonder if there was any point in even turning up, totally agree with the previous posters, get the game won and then give the second stringers a run out, i would love to see more of the robbie savage look-a-like, he looks classy.

I take your point Bill but i dont see it as being disrespectful, how long have we waited to have a squad with the depth and class we have now, 3 points and another chance to see the youngsters is the least we should expect.

I hope we tear them a new Arsehole to be honest.

Not getting over confident, and don't get me wrong even a one-nil would do me, but we saw the difference in goals' scored between us and the other Top 4 last year so in games like this we need to maximise opportunities!

I'd be tempted to play Crouch again for this one...he looks eager to prove his worth and he deserves a go at it.  Not really much need to play Sissoko in this one, so we'll probably end up looking almost 4-2-4 in this one, full backs getting forward nicely.

                      Reina
Finnan    Hyypia     Agger     Arbeloa
               Masch     Alonso
    Pennant                        Babel

Finnan                 Agger                           Hyppia                  Riise

Pennant      Mascherno or Alonso ???      Gerrard                Babel

                          Voronin                           Torres

On last night performance, Momo, Arbeloa, Crouch, Kuyt & Benayoun can all consider themselves very unlucky if they aren't selected.

Think unhappy players will be a recurring theme this season, the only thing to do, is to get to the top of the league and stay there.
Then no one can complain about Rafa's methods.

Need to keep the momentum going. Keep Arbeloa on the right, and give Yossi a start in the PL. I'd like to see if Yossi and Babel can interchange on the left and right.

Reina
Arbeloa, Sami, Agger, Risse
Yossi, Alonso, Masch, Babel
Torres, Kuyt

Second half, bring on Voronin for Kuyt, and assuming all is going well, swap Alonso for Lucas, and maybe Babel for Leto.

just looking down the thread and at all the possibilities of what players could play and where is it just me or does it make any one else feel a little moist.
but we do have to go out to win the game and give derby some respect. get the job done first with the strongest team we have avaliable, i agree with heny on this formation especially with alonso not featuring last night

                                    Reina

I personally feel that Benayoun should be rewarded for his excellent performance last night with a 1st premiership start.

After last night, even though it was poor opposition, I feel that his style will suit European exposure.

Can't afford to get complacent.

If we score early, could be a whitewash.

We need to get at them right from the start - don't want a frustrating 'we hammered them but didnt finish' story.

i want a strong team. Nothing worse than going into a bloody international break having missed out on 3 points feeling frustrated and unable to get stuck back in to the next prem game.

----------Reina---------------
Finnan-Sami-Agger-Arbeloa

----Torres-Crouch----

Reward Bennayoun, Crouch and Masch. These have had the least playing time so far and showed desire to be in team last night.

This game is exactly the sort of potential banana skin we've slipped on in the past. I think we need to win and win comfortably.

Same as last season, I thought there were three things we needed to mount a title challenge:

Hit the ground running
Take points off our 'rivals'
Beat the lesser teams more often, especially away

We're doing the first of those so far, given the performance against Chelsea we've done the second as much as we can (though we really need to beat United this season) so now we need the third. This is a game we should be expected to win comfortably and therefore we muct do so.
