If anyone wants to make an offer i'm open to it, and can meet in London this week or Liverpool at weekend. Can be vouched for by tons of members on here incl. some Mods.

As long as you're still covered by Apple Care and there is no sign that you had anything to do with its demise (fraying cables) I think you'll be alright. I've been through 4 Mag safe adapters in the past 4 years.

Well the cables have frayed but it was hardly my fault, the plastic shit around them melted leaving them exposed.

I'll ring them tomorrow, cheers.

IF you have an Apple store near you, you might want to just take it there. It might give one of their 40 employees standing around doing nothing something to do.

You really can't argue with their customer service. I've had mine in for repair about 5 or 6 times in the 3 years I've had it and the only time they ever made me pay was when I accidentally broke the screen. Even then they waived the labour charge and just made me pay for the part. Almost every time I have had it in for repair they've rang me back the same or next day to say it's fixed as well!

Anyone know roughly what I could get for a Macbook (Bought September 2010) In good condition? Had a look on ebay but it's mainly shops and refurbs. Might upgrade to a pro.

Alright. There's been a couple of problems which I have come across on my Macbook Pro and I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problems and managed to rectify them.

The first problem I've had is when the Macbook is plugged in I consistently get small electric shocks when I lay my hand or arms on the body of the Macbook. I think this problem also causes a constant buzz in the headphones I use as when I lay my hand on the Macbook the buzz stops.

The other problem I am having is when I open or close the Macbook, the hinge creaks loudly. It is painful every time I open or close it to hear the loud 'CRACK' noise it makes.

Anyone else come across these problems? If so did you manage to rectify them?

Does anyone else's Macbook Pro randomly shut down? And then when you turn it back on again, it resets the date to 2001 and loads of popups come up asking for permission for stuff?
I had this a couple of times in the past few months, and then last week i dropped it (it was on my bed and dropped onto the floor). It seemed fine, but since then it's been doing it a lot more. Now tonight, it's done it about 5 times when i've tried to pick it up and move it and a couple of times when i take the charger out. Now, my battery health is decent (according to istat pro, 84% health with 541 cycles) and although it did say i needed to replace my battery soon in the top bar, it's gone back to status as normal (i reset the SMC).

I have no warranty as i bought it off ebay (and this guy seemed dodgy as fuck as he wanted cash and for me to meet in person but i didn't care care at the time). I'm guessing it's probably stolen as he was selling it for his mate apparently. Is this a battery problem or is it something more serious (hardware). Any can it be fixed without having to get a new one? Can't imagine life without my MCP :(

It'll check to make sure everything is running well. to be honest, a mac shouldn't just be shutting down when it wants.

I got my macbook's case replaced as it had cracked on the hinge and when I got it home it was creaking when I opened it. Turns out the lad who replaced it had set it about half a millimeter off to one side. He took it off me and fixed it at no charge in about an hour while I went and had lunch.

As for the electric shocks, I get little shocks off the screws underneath when it's not plugged in which I just put down to static and it not being grounded (plugged in). It never happens when it's plugged in and I've never had the buzzing with the earphones. Sorry!

Anyone installed it yet? First impressions?

I'm going to hold off a bit, I think. Wait and see what the problems are/which apps don't work.

In all honesty, most of the new features are pretty minor that it's not a bad idea waiting for the next update or two for developers to fix any problems.

I've not had any problems yet.

Macbook Air or Macbook Pro...
Decisions

Depends on how much you think you'll be lugging it around, and whether or not it's your only computer. I've got a desktop, so I'd take the Air every day of the week. Don't think I'd go near one if it were to be my only computer.

It depends.

I have a MBA and it runs Photoshop, Chrome, Mac dev tools, and most games I've downloaded. I imagine it'd struggle with the likes of FCP but for everyday usage, I love it. I have a Dell M6500 for office work, and this is a cracking pick-up and go machine. The portability is a massive plus.

Can you really not justify £14 for the upgrade ?

It's only £14? I thought it would be more, fair price.

Hard to say for certain. Dropping and breaking it aside (MacBooks are the best built notebooks available, mind), I think computers these days last a lot longer than a few years ago because manufacturers are much more focussed on cutting power usage than increasing performance like they used to.

With a Mac, I'd say the most likely demise is that Apple will drop support for it and software will stop running long before the hardware gives out.

Do you think its worth spending an extra 200 pounds on the advanced 13 inch macbook pro. Comes with an extra 4gb ram and has an i7 instead of i5 processor with a .4ghz more plus an extra 250gb memory

250 GB harddrive space, not memory. It has 4 GB more memory.

Yeah, it's probably worth it.
