80,000, 90,000.... the sheer stonking ambition of it is what i like. Imagine us with 90,000 people in the ground!!! that'd just be incredible.

I've got a feeling the 74k capacity stadium the club have apparently applied for, really will be the limit for Stanley Park.

I think we'll get that deal, and that'll brilliant news, cos 65k or even 70k that had been hoped for  future expansion was probably too little as well.

A 74k capacity Anfield in Stanley Kop with an 18k single tier Kop is what we're now aiming for, and that I reckon is spot on for now and the very foreseeable future.

Indeed.   And a striking design so that it is instantly recognizable, the world over,  as Anfield. Bring it on.

and let's have more 'I guess' and 'Whatever's' ringing around the ground.

Hicks was on SSN this morning and it sounds like the capacity will still be 61k.
He said they will show the plans soon. Inside has been designed but outside hasn't yet.
I guess 74k may be what it could be increased to at a later date?

You obviously weren't listening very well mate ;D

He specifically said otherwise.

 ;D it was 6am

I thought he said they were going to stay within the original planning application. I took that to mean the footprint and the capacity (I was disappointed after the talk of 74k)

Basically said that with the amount of people wanting tickets and season tickets, that he wants a bigger capacity - all the inside is done but the outside isn't

sounds like a complete redesign but with the same footprint.

Sounds good, at least these two won't be told what to do by the bluenose twats on the council.

Plus if we get a few more years at Anfield, I'll be made up.

small snippet at the end of this article  http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news?slug=gillettbenitez&prov=st&type=lgns

Quote
"On the new stadium, we will honor the plans already in place but things are being changed. We have talked to people and we do not want to start over with the plans again."

He admitted that there still is work to be done.

"So far we have worked on its insides, the outside is next, but we are near to being able to announce our new plans," Hicks said. "We have to compete with Manchester United who can get over 70,000 in their stadium, while Arsenal's new ground has 60,000, and with London prices.

"Liverpool has a unique market. We have a huge waiting list of fans wanting to buy tickets so we want a bigger stadium than the one previously envisioned."

Chief executive Rick Parry was equally overjoyed at the prospect of another European final.

"I did not expect to see anything that would be as good as 2005 when we beat Chelsea at this stage before but we got it this time," he said. "On the stadium, we are close to unveiling our new plans and a lot of work is currently going on to make the new stadium even bigger and even better. That is really exciting."

Anyone pick up on that part of the Parry interview on the BBC website (http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/check/player/sol/newsid_6610000/newsid_6615600?redirect=6615611.stm&news=1&nbwm=1&bbwm=1&nbram=1&bbram=1) where he mentions that 'it's the people, not the building that makes the noise'.  Definitely a psychological comment suggesting that the new Anfield can be intimidating even without the history that's ingrained into the bricks and mortar of our current Home. Clever stuff.

Why do people keep going on about the traditions of the club being in the bricks and mortar at Anfield.Three quarters of the ground is less than 15 years old and we haven't won the league in all that time.
The new Kop will have 18,000 people on it,50% bigger than now, that makes the new Kop 50% bigger and better than it is now.It is the supporters that make the Kop not the bricks.Possibly having 74,000 supporters instead of 45,000 is incredibly exciting, imagine 74,000 singing YNWA before a game,I personally cant wait

Gillett again spoke of his desire to one day sit on The Kop – whether in its current form or in its new incarnation as the centerpiece of the club's new stadium.

"I wish I had been on The Kop on Tuesday, but I was concerned it would be a distraction. We've acknowledged the importance of The Kop already since we arrived and it's clear why the new stadium must be designed around it.

"We'll try to have as many seats in there as there used to be when it was originally a standing area. That's our ambition.

"That was once 24,000. We may not be able to get that many, but we'll certainly go beyond the 12,000 we have now."

Both the old & new Kop where ground breaking in some way in the way they where designed.

This wasn't reflected in the current design, which is why it's a good thing the whole design is being thought through properly.

Parry has gone on record to say the current design was just cheap & functional, groundbreaking or world class design was not even in the equation.

Really, as your so happy that it looks like we are going to get an increased capacity, you should be thanking the people who where going on about the traditions of the KOP being in Bricks & mortar in the first place. It's their concerns & raising awareness that has got it to this point.

In fairness to Parry and Moores, they never had the money available to do anything like what G&H appear to be proposing.  The original plans for the new ground were clearly limited by what we could afford at the time.

But I thought it was a project 'for the next 100 years.' Surely they should've just stayed at Anfield instead of proposing an increase of a mere 15,000 people.

He didn't want a pair of liverpool embossed cowboy boots up his arsehole?
Funny you should say that. Sky Sports News, pre-Chelsea beating - did anyone else see Hicks flashing his new boots? ;D Classic. I'm just gald to see he's really starting to take his new 'baby' to heart...

Anyone heard any rumours at all?
So, has anyone heard any more? I'm assuming that 74,000 now seems to be our 'current' limit; but is it not possible to further stretch the boundaries as they lie, and make it more like 80,000, with further scope for future developments? Also, does anyone now when the plans are due for release?

Re: the turf - is this assured now, or due to speculation of security, management, and such like? I'd also really like to see this come to fruition - as Maggie May said, the many ashes scattered there... But I'm afriad to say, I had a pokey nosey and saw inside Anfield last summer when they re-laid the pitch for the first time in a few seasons (as they seem to every other season), and well, they did dig to a fairly deep level.. To make way for this new pitch laying technology, with cross fibres and such like. Hence why its not been so patchy or 'kicked-up' this season! So, do people really think this will be possible, if at all?

My hunch is this..

When G&H were over for the Chelsea semi's they discussed the capacity issues and regeneration with the City Council. And that's as far as it got.

It was mentioned they have an idea on the "inside" of the stadium and capacity. So that tells me that various architects are in the process of preparing options for G&H to approve on the "look" of the stadium from the outside. Once they have determined which design they want, then they'll put the entire package together and present it.

Timing..probably  end of May.

Or at the end of the open bus top tour after May23rd....we can only hope..;D

That's long gone mate, they have spoken to the council loads of times before the Chelsea game.

Well, not an 'idea', the internal design is finnished, that means that they probably already know the capacity.

Best guess is the recently reported 75-80k

The Manchester Architects who have had the job taken off them, report that the new management are looking at ways to ultimately achieve 90k with their new US Architects. This will be achieved by going deeper into the ground so that the stadium still has the same visual profile as the origninal designs.

By the way the Original Architects also produced designs for a bigger stadium, but accused Moores and Parry of applying too much caution and lacking ambition in wanting a 60k Stadium.

Incidently, in management styles they say the difference between Moores and Parry and Gillett and Hicks is 'Corner Shop' to Tesco.

If they're going to go into the ground to add seats without changing anything else, that means less legroom, right?

Wouldn't that run counter to G 'n' T's avowed aim to give people "the best possible spectator experience" - I know, I know, it's a cringeworthy phrase, but the sentiment behind it is sound enough.

75-80,000 Sounds about right, my only concern regards the season ticket issue. I have no problems whatsoever about how many more season tickets the club want to issue but what does bother me is that having held my season ticket since 84/85 season and having missed just one home game in that time I wouldn't like to be put on an equal footing regarding priority for future big match tickets. Just think the length of time I have been a seasson ticket holder for and the loyalty I have shown, me and similar season ticket holders should have this taken into consideration when the stadium is made bigger and the season ticket numbers increase.

So when exactly would you allow someone the privileges that you seem to demand for yourself? People wait for years to be as lucky as you and have the chance to hold an ST.

You are in a privileged position, wind your neck in and welcome larger numbers like the vast majority rather than panicking about your own future tickets.

Personally I will be gutted when we leave Anfield and in an ideal world I would like us to extend. That is not going to happen so lets attempt to move to a new ground without even more shite like this.

The LC is cavernous compared to the lower anfield rd. Last time I sat there I had a bit of a bad experience.

Now i'm 6' 4" and 19 stone, and I ended up with another 6' 4" guy on one side of me, and the fella on the other side of me was 6' fucking 7". Cosy would be an understatement.

If they're going to go into the ground to add seats without changing anything else, that means less legroom, right?
Why would you want to be sitting? Oh yeah, thats right. Us as stewards have to ask you to sit down to meet stadium safety regulations etc... ::)
The Manchester Architects who have had the job taken off them, report that the new management are looking at ways to ultimately achieve 90k with their new US Architects. This will be achieved by going deeper into the ground so that the stadium still has the same visual profile as the origninal designs.
Mancland peeps, designing our stadium... Shites. :-\
By the way the Original Architects also produced designs for a bigger stadium, but accused Moores and Parry of applying too much caution and lacking ambition in wanting a 60k Stadium.
Doesn't surprise me, in the least bit. Behind the times...
Incidently, in management styles they say the difference between Moores and Parry and Gillett and Hicks is 'Corner Shop' to Tesco.
When is the remix coming out? :wave
