Well, I've tried to find words to fit this. All I have so far is:

It can't involve any player names or reference to 5 European Cups etc - as the song would be out of date in no time.

I'm trying to work on it at the minute, been trying for months, but really struggling to get the first line right. Liverpool and any play on the word just doesn't go.

This so far:

The Anfield Kopites
Of Liverpool

We'll follow the reds to wherever they will play
We travel in our 1000's and we go home and away...

It's the PAOK Athens AGM

No player names, managers names etc - the song would be outdated too soon and the tune is too good to be ditched after a few years.

Still working on it....

FOAR is alright, seeing as it's legends (in regards to players names). I think the first line is screaming out for it to have carra (that's pretty much the sound produced anyway)

OHHHHHH xxxxxx Carra - sounds good to the ear, but I do understand where you're coming from. It's such an amazing tune that it needs perfect lyrics to make it timeless.

It needs to be PERFECT

Some songs you can get away with the odd dodgy lyric, but with a tune like this it needs to be blob on or it just won't work.

I threw in the lines of:

"We'll follow the reds to wherever they will play
We travel in our 1000's and we go home and away..."

as the main chunk of the song, as it's about us, the fans and will never be dated. But to tie in with that we need something powerful for the first lines, and not involving players. It's just not that type of song imo.

Not all Liverpool fans are kopites either

and a few of the away crowd wouldn't dream of calling themselves kopites - ever wondered why the "we all live in a red and white kop" and "we are the famous kopites" songs are never loud?

It's just a word that a lot of people distance themselves from.

The wording to this one has to suit everyone

I'm not saying the words I put down are perfect, they're shite to be honest, but just highlighting that the lyrics need to be applicable to everyone.

Can't be seen to be a 'wool anthem'

Can't be seen to be a 'scouse' song the OOT'ers won't sing

Can't be seen to be a 'lads' song the shirt wearers and co won't sing.

Balance needs to be right, and it's not easy.

Completely agree - but doesn't that require an input from as many different people as possible?

You can tell the songs that will take off when posted up on forums, as 99% of the people that reply to the suggestion give it the thumbs up.

That's what's need here with this tune.

To me, the tune (and just the tune, not the translation of the lyrics, which I don't know) is very much a "we are mighty" sound. We are all conquering, mighty, powerful, we will not be moved, draw us at your peril, your in our house and you will play by our rules, type thing.

At least that's the way it sounds to me. I think it should reflect that. Almost a war chant or somthing, sounds intimidating, anyone else agree with that.

The second section of the song doesn't actually matter too much, as long as it rhymes and rolls off the tongue, without trying to hard and being cheesy, then it'll work.

The powerful statement needs to be made in the opening line...

OOOHHHHHH la la la la...

That word or words need to be perfect or the song is a non-starter. I've been thinking about it for months and can't find anything that sits right.

Argentina sing it, with OOOOHHH ARGENTINA - and it's perfect. Liverpool and the like just don't sit right, doesn't scan.
