  • Liverpool FC is an institution not a business
Really can't wait for this am flying out Tues, can't stop thinking about it.  Lets have these s****s.

As this is the next match i thought its an ideal time to post.  With just a week to go i've been trying to get my head round what we will go for and i believe it will be this.

                                Reina

                      Carra Hyypia Agger

            Finnan Gerrard Alonso Momo Riise

                          Kuyt   Bellamy

Subs

Dudek
Pennant
Gonzalez
Aurelio
Palleta/arbeloa
Crouch

The reason am going for that team is because everything seems trough the middle with barca, and i believe thats were the battle will take place.

I've not been so excited for a match in ages.

My pick for a team, I'd go with a 3-5-2 too.

-----------Reina---------
-------Carra-Agger-Aurelio---------
Arbeloa-Gerrard-Alonso-Sissoko-Gonzalez
--------------Kuyt---Bellamy---------

Subs:
Dudek
Finnan
Pennant
Mascherano
Riise
Crouch

I'll go for 4-2-3-1.

I hate the 3 central defender system Rafa's been using recently

                Reina

Finnan   Carra  Agger  Riise

        Alonso Momo
Gerrard    Kuyt      Aurelio

               Crouch

Can't wait!

Would think its a nailed-on 4/5/1.

Bellamy must play...  if they have any weakness, its pace in behind.  Whether Bellamy will start as the lone striker, or on the right of the '5'....  not sure.

Fairly certain Crouch will sit this one out on the bench.

For my money:

                              Reina

Finn            Carra                 Hyypia             Aurelio

Bellamy          Alonso               Momo                Riise

                             Gerrard

                                Kuyt

Right now I want Crouch and Bellamy upfront, tomorrow I may think differently

Think it's nailed on that Gerrard, Alonso and Momo will all play so unless Gerrard's on the right, it's likely to mean just one up front, unless we play 3-5-2

Anyone know if Aurelio's going to be fit?

Yes. Barca could be looking a lot more scary than they have been this season. I wish we played them last month, but I think there could be a lot worse times to play them.

My money is on a 3-5-2 too.

Lets hope this Eto'o thing unsettles the team enough for us to take advantage. I wouldn't have Hyypia starting, the pace of their forwards can really hurt us

Samuel Eto'o has angrily confronted Frank Rijkaard and Ronaldinho - but the Cameroonian still looks set play in the European tie with Liverpool.

The forward had stunned club officials by refusing to come on as a late substitute in the 2-0 win over Real Sociedad, although it appeared Eto'o didn't wish to risk damaging his knee after an extensive warm-up.

His coach, Frank Rijkaard, was keen to understand the reasons for Eto'o's apparent dissent but was met with an angry tirade: "It was a bad thing to come out and say in a press conference that I did not want to play," said Eto'o. "It is those who said I did not want to play that must answer you. Those who spoke should be worried."

Ronaldinho was unusually outspoken in claiming his teammate should be more considerate to the rest of the players, and not so greedy in front of goal. "If a teammate tells me, that I should think about the team, then he must first. Everything I do is while thinking about the team. That is why it has upset me so much. If they can, they should say it to my face," retorted the 25-year-old.

The Daily Mail predicts the prolific striker will miss the Champions League tie with Liverpool as a result, but that now appears unlikely after Barca president Joan Laporta offered his unreserved backing and even stated a fine would be harsh.

"When he speaks to Frank it will all be cleared up. His knee needs time to warm up and he didn't have enough time. He preferred to be careful," Laporta was quoted as saying by sports daily Marca. "He didn't do anything inappropriate or wrong. There is no way it can be deduced that Eto'o refused to play soccer for Barcelona."

In fact, the club wish to resolve the issue with as little fuss as possible and within the next week in order to avoid the kind of internal conflicts that have hampered other major sides, like Chelsea and Real Madrid, in their bid for silverware.

And while Rijkaard will have questions of Eto'o's suitability to be selected in the near future, his superb record in front of goal means a place in the squad to face Liverpool is highly probable. The club has spoken of its desire to retain their European crown, and want to portray a scene of unity ahead of the juiciest clash of the first knockout stage, where two master tacticians will go head-to-head.

with only kewell and garcia still injured and the addition of masch and arbeloa, the number of "possibilities" for this match are endless.

got to keep it tight for this one, try to control the match and hopefully sneak a goal (or two). i'd go with:

..........................Reina

...............Carra-Hyppia-Agger

Finnan-Gerrard-Alonso-Sissoko-Aurelio

.................Bellamy-Crouch

Subs:
Dudek
Arbeloa
Riise
Pennant
Gonzalez
Mascherano
Kuyt

think we need sami for his big match european experience, aurelio over riise if fit (given riise's form and aurelio's la liga experience), crouch over kuyt as dirk hasn't looked great recently and crouch seems to trouble european teams and has done well in the CL this year (bellamy's pace is also crucial).

                       Reina
Finnan         Carra Agger       Aurelio

Would expect the line up to be something like that. Maybe Bellamy will be moved out to play more on the right though to allow Gerrard to play a bit more centrally.

agree..............think arbeloa will start.  his recent experience of playing against barca (as well as aurelio) may have secured his starting place.  the last time we played spanish opposition in the champions league (betis) he started with a midfield that all had experience in la liga, zenden, alonso, momo, garcia and josemi started at right back!!  there would be no justification for dropping steve finnan for this game, only for the fact that arbeloa has played and marked ronaldinho already this season.

do not think we should start this game with three central defenders so i'll go with:

reina

arbeloa        carragher        agger         aurelio

gerrard         sissoko           alonso        gonzalez

                          kuyt

                                            bellamy

subs:      dudek, crouch, hyppia, pennant, finnan

No youre not alone mate, granted its as good a time as any to play them, what with injuries and eto'o fallin out with the gaffer, hopefully that'll all work in our favour, they still aint lost a home game this season and i'd be pretty happy if i was a barca fan considering theyve had a slump in form, still top of the league and in the champs league, saying that they deffo aint looked themselves of late, so it all hinges on what we can get outta the nou camp, if we get a positive result there, then it'll be one hell ov a night back at anfield, personally when the draw was made, i was made up we got barca as JAR said thats what football is about playing the biggest teams.....cant wait for next week now, c'mon redmen!!!!!!!!!!!

Bloody negativity. I reackon we'll twat them 4-1 at the Nou Camp and get a 1-1 at Anfield. Easy pickings this lot.

I'd like to see something like this:

- - - - - - - - - Reina
- - Arbeloa - Carragher - Agger
Finnan - Alonso - Sissoko - Aurelio
- - Gerrard - - - - - - Gonzalez/Bellamy
- - - - - - - - Crouchinho

Not sure what Rafa'll go for though.

                      Reina

           Arbeloa Carra Agger

Finnan                                 Aurelio

           Masch Alonso Momo

                     Gerrard

                     Bellamy

seems like a pretty damn good team to me. plenty of quality through the central areas and pace up top. also including a player who has already snuffed out Ronaldinho already this season.

But the 3 CB's can't get to isolated, or the 3 Barca forwards could rip us to shreds. buy playing 3 at the back, the midfield MUST dominate, cutting off the supply to their forwards.

I can see Crouch starting, he'll be a key for us on set pieces, as they look very vulnerable to those. The only thing though is that with Crouch on the field, everyone will be tempted to just play the long ball to him, but then again, i'd take a result any way i can get it!

is that 7 in goal?

or reina taking his place in a 7 man defence?

either way, thats a hell of a plan, no way will Frank Rijkaard have considered this formation, we'll have them stumped.

some may say it is slightly negative though...

Can't see Hyypia starting, given their pace. Also can't see Arbeloa starting because he doesn't know our back 4 yet, and we defend as a team not as individuals.

For some reason I have a good feeling about this one, since I dont know what players will be ready I will not speculate about any line ups yet, but if Aurelio is fit I would like to see him in LB and Riise in LM.
There will always be more sheep than shepherds.

- - - - - - - - - Reina
- - Arbeloa - Carragher - Agger
Finnan - Alonso - Sissoko - Aurelio
- - Gerrard - - - - - - Gonzalez/Bellamy
- - - - - - - - Crouch

Not sure what Rafa'll go for though.
there is no way they are easy pickings, this will be a tough game at the nou camp, not being negative here just realistic obviously i've got belief we can do them over two legs, they aint lost at home all season, i for one would be made up with a draw at there gaffe, 1-1 away goal get them back to anfield that'd suit me nicely.

I think Rafa will play the reserve team...seriously though, Rafa has way more to offer in terms of tactics and footballing acumen than Retard ...so i don't see what the worries are about.Yes, Retard has a wonderful lot of players but we do to.

is that 7 in goal?

or reina taking his place in a 7 man defence?

7 In goal with 3 in defence.

Cant believe some of you, wants to start the toughest away game, we have all season without our most consistent performer: Stevie Finnan.

I think Rafa will go with the 4-5-1 formation:

reina

Finnan
Agger
Carra
Riise

Gerrard
Momo
Alonso
Zenden

Kuyt

Crouch

We need crouch upfront in this game. So he can hold up the ball, to take the pressure off the defence, and at set-pieces

I think Rafa will go with a strong, familiar side.

GK Reina

RB Finnan
CB Carragher
CB Hyypia/Agger
LB Riise

RM Gerrard
CM Alonso
CM Sissoko
LM Aurelio

CF Kuyt

ST Bellamy

Dudek
Agger/Hyypia
Arbeloa
Macherano
Pennant
Gonzales
Crouch
It's hard enough remembering my opinions without remembering my reasons for them.

                                  Reina

           Arbeloa   Carragher    Agger    Aurelio

           Finnan     Alonso       Sissoko   Riise

                                Gerrard

                                 Crouch

Doubling up on both sides, Stevie driving forward, Crouch providing the knock downs...
