Orange broadband...
« on: February 11, 2007, 02:17:36 AM »
Anyone on here have Orange broadband - the £5/mth 8MB package?
My AOL contract is up and am looking at other providers. Just wanted to know any good or bad points about Orange.
If not Orange, any other good deals out there to be snapped up?

Cheers in advance.

I think it's a recent thing but it must be bad marketing as i've been with Orange for 8 years and didn;t know. Only last week I did my first upgrade for 2 years and noticed it on their website when I was looking at which phone to take.
You get a wireless modem or something which seems a good option as I have a laptop.

I have inherited Orange as an ISP
Freeserve - Wanadoo - Orange

Since Orange took over the customer service does'nt seem as good and for the last month or so I have had intermitant slow download speed and dropped connection.

Message has been up on the Orange homepage for a while now

"Customers in Liverpool, Newcastle, Tannockside and Cardiff may be experiencing intermittent disconnections or slow browsing due to a known network issue. This is a known fault which is currently under investigation."

Apart from that its OK , I think the best deal is if you have/get a monthly mobile phone with them as well.

I am holding back on changin ISP's at the moment as there seem to be a few new convergance deals round the corner with more facilities bundled together.

Guessing the £5 deal is because you have a mobile with them............

I've had it for a few months.  It's ok during the day, but performance tails off badly after midnight - I think there's some technical jiggery pokery going on in the wee small hours, but it's a bastard when you're streaming 'nature' films...

Just bumping this as thinking of going with them now.  How does the service seem now it should be more stable after being around for a while?

I am looking into switching to Orange. The £20 a month deal looks quite good for what you get...

Quote
    *  fast, up to 8Meg speed*
    * inclusive Livebox wireless modem
    * unlimited calls to national and international landlines at any time included in the price
    * wireless connection to surf where you want and connect up to six computers
    * unlimited monthly downloads (fair use policy applies)

Would anyone like to add their opinion then seeing as it is beginning to take off a bit now :P? Not that I would use their crappy Livebox thing, but the speed and unlimited bandwidth thing is pretty nice...well better than what I get now. I only have a 512kbps connection but I download about 30GB a month (although I downloaded 37GB last month).

If you're connecting to their standard service you should be fine but anyone moving onto them in an area where they have LLU is playing a dangerous game. They've had all sorts of problems with their LLU service.

bt customer service is awful. Experienced it for the first time this week. Got the problem sorted after 4 separate calls through to india. Seriously considering looking for alternatives now.

That's called damning with faint praise.

BT Customer Service is the main reason I cut and ran several years ago. I've now gone from Homecall (excellent) --> bought by Pipex and Pipex are awful. They phoned me a few days ago and I answered the phone to a computer putting me on hold. How crap is that. Waited 20 minutes only to be told by the lovely call centre operative in India (long delay on the line and terrible line quality exacerbating an almost indeciferable accent) that they couldn't talk to me (after spending 5 minutes talking to me (!?)) as the account holder is my wife (who hasn't lived here for 4 months) and that they would send her (Royal Mail forwarding is a bastard when you share a first initial with your ex-wife) a change of mandate form (for the 3rd time). Eventually talked to the supervisor (a lovely Australian lady who tried her best to understand) but still no luck getting the telephone line in my name.

I don't think any of them are much cop really.

Yeah BT decided to stop our phone line for some reason.  Had 6 tests on it, never heard back. Kept calling and told it will be resolved within 24 hours.

3 months later they offer to refund 7 days line rental.  To fuck with yer BT. We got our 3 months back and 3 months free. :P

We've had Orange in the flat this year and it's been god awful. As said above, when it works fine - it's alright. But it's not fine for long enough and keeps cutting up every few weeks. Then it takes a week or two to sort itself out and getting through to some of the dumbwits that man their phones will run your patience thin.

It's only £5/month so I suppose you get what you pay for (barely) but I cant wait to get shot of the bastards

I've just signed up for the £20.00 per month so will see if I get the same service? Maybe they cut it out due to fair usage e.t.c?

"We are aware of a slow speed network issue on our IPStream Max networks.

This is an issue that we have been aware of for a number of weeks and are currently working towards resolving. Unfortunately, we do not have an estimated timescale for resolution for this issue.
We apologise for any inconveience caused."

Email from Orange customer support when complaining about download speed , service is just shite at the moment.

When I asked for the UK customer service Directors details they just replied with their normal customer service address in Rotherham  :no

Slow speeds will always be an issue as ISP's are bringing out faster packages their servers cannot handle.

Was tempted by the new O2 broadband deals that have launched today.

My shitty phone line will give "up to" 8meg (unlimited) for £7.50 per month (I have an O2 contract phone)

So gave Orange a call to get my MAC code and seriously consider things but dont you just love these cancellation/retention teams.

Offered me 6 months free broadband and a new wireless router, only downside new 12 month contract.

Put some doubt in my mind so said I would think about it.......................
