everton. Small By Definition.
« on: February 3, 2007, 05:45:52 pm »
Benitez was right. Checking the dictionary definition of "small" reveals:-

adjective

limited or below average in number or quantity or magnitude or extent.

limited in size or scope.

low or inferior in station or quality.

not fully grown.

too small to be seen except under a microscope

not large but sufficient in size or amount.

made to seem smaller or less (especially in worth).

slight or limited: especially in degree or intensity or scope

have fine or very small constituent parts.

adverb

on a small scale: "think small" ( UNLESS YOU ARE TRYING TO WANGLE A GROUNDSHARE, Eh Bill, Keith and Prof Cannon?  ;) )

EVERTON. THE SMALL PEOPLE'S CLUB.

No. Some may, or may not, be vertically challenged but I dispute the fact that they have a "lot of fans".

ah sorry... yes i agree

but they are the peoples club, the club anyone can go and watch, you dont need a season ticket, most times you dont need a ticket before the day of game, therefore the people can choose whether to go and watch them or not

they tend to choose the later ;)

Can I tell you the story of a poor team
Who were sent far away from their home
To live in the styx out near Knowsley
Where only the cattle do roam

They were banished to a lower division
Had no hope of seeing far foreign lands
And the fans swarmed around in their hundreds
with Tesco plastic bags in their hands

Oh a battle it started next morning
Over at aisle number 1
Oh those poor Evertonian Bastards
Were scrapping over the last currant bun

As they lay on the aisles of the Tesco, Tesco, Tesco,
Knocking over the cakes and the bread
and the bread!
As they lay on the aisles of the Tesco
These were the last words they said

Oh we are the Evertonians
And our ground is made of wood
We're horrible bitter Blueshite Bastards
And we've never been that good

We support a team that's dressed in blue
It's a team that no-one knows
It's a team that’s sponsored by Tesco cause that's where we buy our clothes….

BLUES HIT BACK AT BENITEZ JIBE

Everton have responded to Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez's 'small club' jibe made in the aftermath of Saturday's 0-0 draw at Anfield.

The Liverpool manager was frustrated by his team's inability to break down a resolute Everton in the 205th Merseyside derby and after the game he said: "There was only one team that wanted to win and one team that didn't want to lose...they had nine men all the time behind the ball.

"When you play against the smaller teams at Anfield you know the game will be narrow and compact and at times we were a little bit nervous."

Upon hearing the comments, Everton Chief Executive Keith Wyness gave a statement to evertonfc.com.

"It is disappointing to hear such an unnecessary comment at the conclusion of what was such a splendid local derby.

"Of course, Mr Benitez is entitled to his opinion but I suspect he is in a minority of one in believing Everton is, in any respect, a small football club

"Somehow we just expect more of a Liverpool manager."

This is hilarious. The whole thing. Hell, Moyes admitted Everton was a "smaller club" in his pre-game remarks by comparing the level of resources. So Rafa makes his "smaller team" statement. Now, rather than preserving some dignity and letting the comment slide (and celebrating the draw like they won the CL), you've got Wyness coming out and proving just how small a side they really are. Scratch that. Everton isn't a small club; they are a little tiny bitter club.

class!!
I was just heard off a mate of mine who is Rick Parry's aunty's fourth cousins milk man in law, and apparently Bill Kenwright has already put in a request with liverpool for rental of our open top bus. they are planning an open top bus parade through Rhyl to celebrate Everton's success this season of not being beat by "them murderin redshite".

i think the DVD will be released next monday.never mind "one night in may", it will be "one afternoon in february:11 BLUE LIONS" . And to be honest it would not surprise me if a dvd was brought out, a commemorative shirt released, and a blue wristband with 3/2/07 on it.

I was worried about Rushie having to go off at half time with that cheque from Brittania, Blue Bill and Kieth Wyness would have mugged him for that.

It was class hearing them on the phone in on radio city afterwards going mad from rafa's comments.
caller "na barry, rafa knew what he was sayin der, ee needs to av a     word wit imself an apologise to us evertonians mate.we are a big club!"
ye you just tell yourselves that lads, remind yourself of that in 3weeks time when your watching us on sky with your Barca shirts on.

To be honest, I would have thought this was precisely the sort of response Everton wanted from Benitez: they riled him and frustrated his side today, yet it seems to have touched a nerve, so some good has come out of today after all.

they can't really argue that they are not a small club
i would say that bi clubs are ones that challenge for honours and everton have not done that for quite a while now
possibly with support and a long history they think they can qualify as a big club but there are too many other teams with a better support than them and a better history
they are a small club.

For fuck's sake. It's beyond dispute that Everton are a "smaller" club. Would this be a news item if Ferguson had, somewhere in a wider statement, called Manchester City "smaller" than his Old Trafford outfit? Would it bollocks.

I don't recall such a fuss being made over Moyes' champaign sipping celebration after "winning" 4th place a couple of years ago.

I can respect nEverton for getting on with their business despite having less money, fewer fans, and more limited ambitions than us, but by every way of comparing the two clubs, for God's sake, they'd HAVE to admit they're a smaller club.  Anything else is just self-delusion!

Also, i could have sworn, from my position in the kop, that i saw  blueshite fans jumping up and down with their tops off at the end of the game. That for me just says it all. Small time bastards.

How can they possibly argue against Rafa calling them a smaller club. seriously? i cant think of any reason they could possibly give to say they are not a smaller club than liverpool.
