sd memory cards. Advice please?
« on: January 22, 2007, 11:34:50 PM »
really sorry if this topic is dealt with elsewhere. Am losing the will to live (despite still buzzing after saturday) trying to understand the range of memory cards available. Not madly bothered about price cos I can shop around once I know what's what..

Have just bought ixus 60 from canon.
Would like large capacity so I can take photos and shoot movies of the children etc..
Understand I need fast writing/reading speed.

will 1gb be enough?
what speeds are adequate?
Good makes? sandisk?

Thanks everyone!

just get a sandisk 80x 1gb, plenty of room for lots of photos (about 300+ on a 6 megapx camera) and if you do need another their pretty cheap, anyways here is a table to give you an idea of storage capacities:

I've got an IXUS 6. Good choice :thumbup

1Gb card gives 360 largest size pics.

512Mb gives 180.

If you can shop at CostCo, get em there.

About 11-12 quid for a 1Gb SanDisk.

I got three... ;D

I've been using the Veho high speed 1gb with my camera:

http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/121039

Ebuyer also offer non branded slower 1gb sd cards for 4.99 ex vat.

Select 5 day postage and buy a couple together otherwise postage will take most of the saving. Or get this little combined sd reader/mp3 player:

http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/100745

coupled with a cheapo 1gb sdcard you have a portable mp3 player and something that will read  cards without needing to dock your camera. That's what I did anyway.
Well, I don't know what it is, but there's definitely something going on upstairs

Amazon do too, I got a Sandisk Extreme III 1GB CF card for £25 inc. p&p last October, were around the £80-mark in Jessops at the time. I have a Jessops branded 512mb CF too, which if I'm honest isn't too shabby for the cheapness, use that one for messing about.

Mmm, depends what it is you're after, and for a lot of things, it's the only high street place ya can go, although they've started to go digital totally now and the support for film cameras and accessories/consumables isn't as good in some of their stores as it once was.

Aye, can be pricey, but compared to other shops I'd say it's about the same, only Jessops carry a bigger range.

Compared to online places, it's extortionate.

Which memory cards do the Sony Ericsson phones take?  SanDisk work on those?

Sony's stuff tends to use their own type called Memory Sticks, but other companies might be making compatible one's.

7dayshop.com

1gb SD card = £5.49
2gb SD card = £9.49

I have been using the 1gb for about 6 months now and not had any probs at all, even when i had 300+ pics stored on there when i was out in Bali/Hong Kong last summer.
