If Punk manages to win his fight it's going to be a hell of an achievement, good guy, but hugely unlikely. However it takes a lot of guts to try this without any experience. Good luck to him

When you're bigger than everyone in your division and finish everyone decisively people overlook your actual talent level and just assume you're this awesome perfect fighter.

Then you fight someone bigger and get finished in a round and a half and the hype train derails...

Rousey or McGregor?  :boxhead

Spoiler
I'm kidding, chill!

Yes I did find the circumstances funny. Nick wasn't hurt and I like him btw. I'm sure he laughed about it as well.

Initial post about being jumped didn't mention any circumstances so it came across as cold hearted.

However after learning the circumstances it is pretty funny. 4 v. Nick and he says they got the worst of it.

It was in the bellagio and the word is it continued onto the casino floor. Has to be a video. I'd at least like to hear him talk about it. His story with Joe Riggs is a classic.

A friend of mine was in the Bellagio years ago and saw Nick. He stared at him for a moment thinking "holy shit that's Nick Diaz" and Nick tried to jump him. Must have thought he was eyeing him up. Luckily a bunch of Nick's minders jumped in before he got battered.

Just read the whole diaz side of the story. Brilliant. Loved this bit especially. Full on fight in the hospital and hes still all technical

"He threw up his hands and started doing his little Joe Riggs dance around and sh#t. I f#%king knocked him down. Then he got up and started trying to take me down. I turned him around. I put double under-hooks because he had a single leg. I put both my arms under his. I turned him because I’m hopping on one leg. So I hopped him on one leg, and I hopped him into the little office right next to the doors. You know, where the emergency doors open? You can’t get in, but you can get out unless you are an ambulance or whatever. I would have hopped him through those doors; I should have hopped him through those doors and outside, should have taken it outside. But I hopped him into this room and I started punching him in his face up against this wall in this room"

Nick is a nut and was probably drunk on top of it for both occasions and probably many more. Those guys got into it with khabib's crew not that long ago in another casino as well. There were a few videos of that.

I thought Oliveira getting down to 143 seemed crazy.  I don't think much has been made of it though, considering he always fights there.  Same height as Pettis though...

Anyone watched the 'Evolution of Punk' documentary? Think he's going to get destroyed to be honest. They are literally teaching him the basics like how to punch and kick. At UFC there is just no way he can come in with so little skill and get ready to fight in the UFC.

Yeah he's going to get destroyed judging by the documentary. Any ideas how long ago it was filmed?

He looks so awkward too. Like that person who's shit at football and can't sort out their legs, two left feet sort of job.

Mickey Gall is only 2-0 himself. The first two episodes only show up to around this time last year so he will have improved more since then and it helps the narrative of the show if he's shown to be hopeless early, personally I wouldn't read too much in to that.

I'm intrigued by it though and it'll be interesting to see how good a 38-year-old can get after just two years of training.

Gall is younger and trucked MJ in his UFC debut. He's also probably been training longer.

Surviving a round would be huge for Punk. A win would be an incredible achievement. I hope he gets smashed inside 20 seconds.

Agreed with people thinking Punk will get embarrassed, I was huge fan of his in the WWE but I never in a million years saw him as someone who could hang in the Octagon.

I just hope that Punk doesn't get hurt too badly when he makes his debut fight.

Bookies have him as underdog, either way i'm happy for him. Unless he has a freak injury nobody will be able to take away from him the fact that he got to fight live on a UFC PPV. The amount of shit he's put up with for years, I really hope he wins

I would laugh myself into a coma, but would enjoy it.

In all fairness (and you, being an old school MMA guy, might disagree) - it's not like they've taken Tom Hardy and tried to make him a fighter.  Punk has some sort of basic Muay Thai or something from years ago (I'm sure I read that?) and, the only undoubtable thing - he can take a shlap/bump/pain.

My head says he's fucked, but who knows.  Gall is a kid, like, and who knows how good he actually is?

Well, from some of the video I've seen, Brooks certainly didn't have much in the way of striking skills. But he's an athlete, can take some punishment (not sure about a punch) and he can sell a show. It's a "freak show" fight and I don't mind that. Should be interesting. I'm just glad it isn't the main event like I thought they were billing it as.
