You forget how fast digger was and how about molby just standing there kidding his marker and putting the ball through, that cam off Houghton(?) to Barnes in one touch footy at its best.

Sorry to see that Union jack in our end though.

Seaman was definitely in goal that day.I was in the kop that day, anyone remember the queue outside the Kop that stretched up and down kemlyn rd around three times, there must have thousands locked out that day.

For someone who was renowned for his awesome left foot, he scored some brilliant goals with his right. Still can't get over how tight their shorts used to be!

Digger was fucking magic that day. Beardsley too. Absolutely fucking ace team.

Remeber watching us beat Man utd the following season 1-0 with a molby penalty. Barnes was against Englands right back at the time Viv Anderson....I swear to god...i have never ever seen anybody tear their marker to bits as much as Barnesy did that day at any level.  Barnes totally destroyed Anderson every time he got the ball..

I hope that people remember that game as vividly as i do. Barnes was from a different planet that day.

Tell you what - Barnes, at that time - WAS up there. I remember Robby Bobson left him on the bench for england argentina in the 86 world cup, Maradonna scored the two goals, Robby THEN sent on Barnes, who fucking ripped argenting to shreds - setting up liniker and very nearly setting up an equaliser in a display that matched Diego that day..

If Barnes had started that game, Argentina would not have won that world cup, and I've always been convinced of that.

I've always thought that too. The whole John Barnes never did it for England thing is a dirty myth.

The other amazing thing about the 5-0 Forest game was that the BBC cancelled one of their evening programmes and put on a special Match of the Day that night just to show it! I taped it and took it to college to show to my friends (all non Liverpool supporters) and they were just gob-smacked at the quality of the football...

definately more than that, including cup games etc...

12 in total that we scored 4 or more... 11 of them in the league. Fuck, looking back on them results brings so much back to me. We were unbelievable that season... Even by new years day, we'd had EIGHT 4-0 or 4-1 wins in the league alone...

 29.08.1987      4 - 1      Coventry      Highfield Road      1st Division
 20.09.1987      4 - 1      Newcastle      St James Park      1st Division
 29.09.1987      4 - 0      Derby       Anfield      1st Division
 03.10.1987      4 - 0      Portsmouth      Anfield      1st Division
 17.10.1987      4 - 0      QPR      Anfield      1st Division
 24.11.1987      4 - 0      Watford      Anfield      1st Division
 28.12.1987      4 - 0      Newcastle      Anfield      1st Division
 01.01.1988      4 - 0      Coventry      Anfield      1st Division
 13.02.1988      4 - 1      Watford      Vicarage Road      1st Division
 13.03.1988      4 - 0      Man City      Maine Road      FA Cup 6th round
 13.04.1988      5 - 0      Nottm For      Anfield      1st Division
 07.05.1988      5 - 1      Sheff Wed      Hillsborough      1st Division

I think we twatted a few away to.  I always remember the Coventry away day. Possibly 4 - 0 or 4 - 1.  We all had the Heysel T shirts on that day.  Think we twatted Newcastle to when Nicol got a hatrick, was up in the Leazes stand for that.  What a fuckin season.

I think we twatted West Ham that season away to 5 -2 and Whelan scored a gem. Not 100% as it could have been the season before.

My favourite ever season, absolute magic.

Stevie Nicol's hat trick, Digger tearing everyone to pieces, McMahon, Beardsley, Houghton and Aldo...not to mention the defence. Bliss.

I'm off to watch my Mighty Reds 87/88 video now...

Coventry away, second game that season is one of my favourite ever LFC games. My first sighting of the legend that is John Barnes. What a day,he was outstanding that day and most after that season. He pure took the piss. The day a hero was born! Then his free kick v Oxford down the Kop and an even better one v Tina, against Derby that was disallowed. One of the best free-kicks I`ve ever seen and it was disallowed.
What a season that was.The greatest English footballing side ever.

John Barnes the finest player on the planet,87-89.Fact.
Anyone remember that volley,v Spurs down the Anny Rd end.Ball came across,he`s on the edge of the box, jumps up-about 10ft-chests the ball down and in the same movement volleys it towards the top corner, only a great save by Thorsvedt denied one of Anfields greatest ever goals.
Happy memories,great player great fella.

Can't remember that game, but remember us winning at Old Twatford 2-1 in 1990 when Barnesy scored twice and had a great game...and Whelen scored a cracking oggy  :)
