I think him and Adam Pepper will feature in the first team in the future. They are the two players who seem to be "skipping years". Aren't they 16 or something like that and playing for the U18s? Also they were being touted for the reserves. Let's hope at least one of the million players we've bought get into the first team ;D

We didn't pay anything for Pepper though, we took him from Everton.

By all accounts he sounds like he is doing well, heard his name many a time this season at Anfield when they announce the player of the month awards at half time

so one day we could have the conundrum of Pacheco, Ecclestone, Bruna, Dalla Valle and Nemeth vying for 2 spots - if all goes well?

Oh happy days!

A young attacker who was extremely hyped up before he reached puberty. Was an everton fan but we somehow got him from their youth and he's 15 or 16 now and is doing very well with Dalle Valle in the u-17s from what I've heard. Should be in the u-18's next season.

Lad in my Year 7 football team has been picked up by Liverpool, only 12, played 14 - scored 13 hattricks and scored over 50!

You can see Pacheco and Nemeth playing for the reserves or u-18's and they get talked about a lot on the "So what are these Youth/Reserve Lads like?" thread. Most of us know less about Dalle Valle because he's playing for the u-17s and not many see him play. He's still supposed to be a great prospect though. Inter Milan got him 2 years ago I think but he couldn't settle there.

Because Dalla Valle was one of the most sought after talents in world football. Inter wanted him, Barca, Chelsea and we got him, so it's a bit of coup for us.

I guess we'll find out in the next 5 years or so...

Dalla Valle left Inter Milan because the training and the team spirit was horrible. Even 14-year-old kids were fighting and making brutal challenges in training every day because apparently their junior teams are full of african etc players from very poor background. Their only "chance" is football so they don't care about anybody but themselves. There were 3 or 4 other kids from Lauri's old team training with Inter as well and they all came back.

Btw, chelsea made an offer to Dalla Valle that they double whatever Liverpool is offering before he signed for LFC. After he signed, I sent him a text "Well done, you chose the right club"..

a word of warning - David Mannix skipped several years and ended up with more injuries than he could cope with. Now he plays for Ham-Kam in the Norwegian second division... sometimes young lads are brought through way to early and their bodies can not take the increased pressure from too more or too hard training.

Piet Hamberg read about Bulgarian weighlifters who were really successful compared to their american counterparts. He found out that the difference was that the Bulgarians trained several times a day but doing very short sessions. Now he has implemented the same scenario for LFC Academy and they do half-an-hour sessions three times a day and the amount of muscle injuries have gone down...

Interesting. What age do they stop doing this and train as adults? Or do they wait until they are moved into the reserves? Because of course, every young body is different. I started playing adult football at the age of 15, I wasn't the biggest or most talented of lads but I had the mental strench if you like, to compete with fully grown men. Is each individual judged on their own abilities? Or is this a run of the mill regiem?
It's hard enough remembering my opinions without remembering my reasons for them.

There was an interview in a Finnish newspaper about Lauri couple of days ago. I have translated some bits which might be interesting:

Liverpool Academy scout Ian Barrigan doesn't save any compliments when he describes former JIPPO player Dalla Valle who moved to England in January.

"I would say he is the most natural finisher in the history of our academy. Everybody are talking about how many goals he has scored" :o

(he has scored 11 goals in as many games)

"Lauri has only once failed to score in U17 matches but apart from that it was his best game here"

Lauri trains with U18 team but has mainly played with lads one year younger than that because the striker of that team has been injured for a long time.

"He must play as an out and out striker even though his best position is behind the main striker"

Other comments were like

"Even though being such young he realises the importance of right diet and Lauri has the best physique in the whole academy" :o

"his attitude is very professional as is the case with all the finns (well I'm writing this while working  ;))"

When asked about his weaknesses, both Barrigan and Piet Hamberg replied practically at the same time saying he needs to get better on one on one situations and get more brave to take on oppositions.

I just hope all those nice things said are true.

Jaska was the interview on Karjalainen?

I've seen him play many times and he often played two or three years above his age group.
The times I've seen him play(although not recently) he has always played in CM.
The coaches at the academy may have seen him more suited as a forward, I don't really know since as I say I haven't seen him play recently.
However, wherever he plays I believe he has the ability to succeed.

intresting. I think the Welsh rugby team are doing the same, favoring short intensive sesions instead of plaodding along for a hour and a half. It does not seem to be something only kids can use.

Between the first two names mentioned there was also Daniel Sjölund who was signed for £1m in exchange to West Ham when they bought Rigobert Song. He never played for the first team and left to Sweden, Djurgården. He plays there nowadays as well but hasn't delivered for the national team that much.

How could he choose Chelsea when someone kept whispering the right things to do to his ears? :P
