LFC 0-0 Portsmouth: post-game thread
« on: November 29, 2006, 09:57:51 PM »
With most of tonight's results going our way, that has to go down as a bitterly disappointing  missed opportunity.

Onward we go...
I'll always keep in my heart the good times I've had here, the strong and loyal support of the fans in the tough times and the love from Liverpool.
I have no words to thank you enough for all these years and I am very proud to say that I was your manager.
Thank you so much once more and always remember: You'll never walk alone.

Takes the fucking piss this season, game after game.

Well and trully out of it and looking like a side completely out of fucking ideas.

Bollocks. At home we should be creating more clear cut chances thatn that, against any team in the Premiership. Against and injury hit pile of fuck like that, thats piss poor.

At the same time, sadly, Im not even surprised.

Geez, if the appearance of El Zhar and Guthrie doesn't send a message (get yer collective heads out of yer arses, ya wankers!) to Garcia and Pennant, then nothing will.
Can't believe we couldn't score, despite the regulars they had out, and our home-field advantage. Two more points thrown away, as ManU and Chelsea pull ever further ahead.  :no

if we had half as good an away record as we do our home one, we'd accept this tonight I reckon, with gritted teeth, as 'one of those'. Thing is, we don't have that luxury, injuries not included. We'll fight for the top 4 no problem, and we'll be a worry to any side in Europe - always have been, always will. Come On You Mighty Reds.

First half thought we were lively and in utter control, despite not creating much. A lot like a number of games last season that we'd have gone on to win 1-0 or 2-0. Second half was dire, no fluency, no urgency, no energy. As hoody said, a complete waste with our rivals dropping points.

It's disappointing that all too often we can't break down sides who put 10 men behind the ball. We'd have been served well tonight by an 100% Kanu, in which case Redknapp would probably have gone with 2 up front and we'd have murdered them. Not to be.

On a side note, Robbie looked disappointingly off the pace.

it's been the story of the season. except a couple of games, our performances have been piss poor. when pushed against the ball, we have looked dispassionate, unimaginative and just unable to score. you can point at the injuries, but there is zero teamwork between the ones who are fit. it's been december and there is no understanding between players. something has to be done.

we'll support liverpool till the end, but if we don't take advantage of games like this, clawing up the table will be really difficult. we're shooting ourselves in the foot. fucking pissed off.

From the sounds of it, it should be an away game.

Just simply not good enough - yet again. I wish I could make excuses but we were like this when we didn't have many injuries - nothing's changed. Well, nothing apart from the fact that we used to be very good at home - see the Newcastle, Villa, Spurs and West Ham games.

Against Man City we were very disappointing. Tonight it sounds like we've been just as bad. I'm trying not to go over the top or anything but it's been evident for quite a while that our attacking play is either there or isn't. To me it can only be explained by our mentality and how Rafa asks them to play. I just don't think that it all just happened and we 'clicked' or whatever against teams like Villa (who hadn't lost before playing us, and they were comprehensively outplayed) and just haven't tonight.

It has to be down to the mentality. It worries me how much we may be practising attacking play (or how) in training, because it just doesn't seem to be working anymore.

Two home games - Man City / Portsmouth - that should be six points and nothing else. We've struggled to get four, and probably deserved two. Nowhere near good enough.

Negative? Yes. Pessimistic? Yes. But does it fit in with the effort and attainment of the players and manager so far this season? Yes. Champions League aside, we've not been anywhere good enough this season. We quite clearly still have the players (despite injuries) and manager to turn this around and become a real contender for 3rd and the Cups. But we won't unless people start standing up, putting in the effort, and changing the attitudes.

The Alonso quote a few days ago about negativity isn't good enough. If that's how it really is (and still is) then I despair because it's just going to get worse. We're not going to get any better through luck - we're going to need hard work and a change in attitudes. Unfortunately that's not just attitudes in effort, that's a change in our offensive play too. It CAN and COULD be very good - but most of the time it isn't. Our offensive players are as good as United's - but they know how to attack. We, seemingly, don't.

Another fucking chance missed. 0-0 at home to a decent side. Not good enough. Performance - nowhere near good enough. Pathetic all round - tonight (performance and result), the season so far, the title race, other teams winning and losing tonight, everything. Load of shite so far this season. Another massive disappointment ... utterly gutted. Especially with Rafa.

Gerrard had a good match  ;D real shame he didn't score  :(

Pennant had a hard time. He should have been taken off in my opinion.

Agger had a good game too.
At least we didn't concede a goal !!!!

Disappointing result + performance.

Maybe the squad is not as strong as we would like to think it is.

I think this season HAS to be a season of transition.

I also think that money will be found for the transfer window and that some fringe players will be on their way - Money from qualifying for CL knockout stages??

Pretty shite. Games like this (and Boro) are the ones we should be winning (and have won)- especially since bowing down to the likes of Arsenal, Everton and ManU whilst they put a few goals past us.

Injuries haven't helped- but we should have beaten this side with the side we put out today- quite comfortably too.

I'm just hoping we can take enough chances to get 3rd or 4th by the end of the season. Thank fuck Arsenal are doing shite- otherwise we'd be scrapping it out for 4th at best.

for me many of these wank performances show we overachieved last season in the premiership. We're underachieving with this squad at the mo, which is why I believe in the long run we will arrive in our natural position of 4th this season; although the way we're currently playing im not entirely confident in that prediction.

Even if we do finish in the top 4 its been one of the most depressing seasons we have had in the Premiership

Even James Milner deserves a place in the England squad before Pennant just to name one.

Only positives really were Agger, he had a good game, defensively we never looked like conceding, and Gultrie looked lively, one of the few showing any drive.

Other than that we were a load of shite, and if it was anyone else I'd have turned it off long before the final whistle.

We are painful to watch in that we have no quality or ideas at times and it's fucking depressing to see us labour to break down teams such these, especially at home...

David James did not have to move a strand of his homosexual hair out of place in that second half...is not good enough really  >:(

Only positives really are that Reina got another clean sheet and Arsenal got beat so we made up an unexpected point but...having an eye on sky showing Chelsea get the result they needed up in Bolton on Sky shows just how far behind them we are. Rafa's got a lot of work to do with this lot we have in the league at the moment...
