it'll be the strongest side possible and rightly so, we've got more chance of winning the CL now than the title IMO and winning the group gives us a better chance of making the quarters

thank cripes for Europe, a win SHOULD pick the players and fans up and finally kickstart our domestic season (hopefully)

Zenden and Gerrard have the makings of a decent combo, imo. Left and right footers, and Zenden has a bit more mobility than Xabi in the holding role, which means Gerrard can bomb forward a lot more without worrying that we are going to get caught short.

Prefer Crouch to Bellamy as a starter. Bellamy to come on later in the game when it opens up and he can show his pace.

Crouch and Garcia should be fresh.I'm sure he won't start Kuyt although he may want to give Bellamy confidence

We have just started a 21-games-in-42-days period running up to 1st of Jan and there's going to be a lot of tired legs, so expect many changes for each of the 42 games. Sissoko's energy will be missed BIG time, but its time for the 'squad' to be at their fittest!.

Winning this game would give us a mini break for the last away game at Gala, so I think Rafa will put out a strong side, probanly our strogest available

Reina
Finnan - Carra - Agger - Riise
Pennant - Gerrard - Alonso - Garcia
Kuyt - Bellamy

with Crouch, Zenden and Gonzo to come off the bench.

I'd give Alonso and Finnan a break. It'd be nice to win the group, but if we pick up any more injuries to key players, especially in midfield, we'll be screwed. We should use any opportunity we have to rest players at this stage of the season.

We should field a strong team to make sure we top the group and the remaining game can be academic. Centre midfield pairing of Stevie and Xabi should be given another go as well as Kuyt/Bellamy pairing.

The game provides an opportunity for Benitez to blood one or more of the reserve lads.  Finishing first in the group is not a guarantee of an easier knock out tie.  Benitez can't take the same risk in the League Cup Quarter Finals as that competition could be our only ticket back to Europe next season.

Surely Benitez has seen enough of Zenden.  There is no need to risk Agger, Alonso, Carragher, Gerrard or Kuyt.  Their mission should be to focus on 9 points from Man City, Portsmouth and Wigan.

It's time for Guthrie, Mannix, and or Peltier to show what they can do in the centre of the park against higher caliber opposition.  It's time for Pennant and Gonzalez to show what they can do on the flanks.  Paletta needs games.  Perhaps a game alongside Hyypia will be good for him, and Hyypia needs the run out.  Warnock needs a game too.  Bellamy needs goals so he should play.

SECOND NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR CARRA
Jimmy Rice 20 November 2006
Jamie Carragher claims Liverpool will be going all out to secure top spot in Group C against PSV on Wednesday.
Victory at Anfield would ensure the Reds avoid the other group winners in the next round.

"Getting through to the next stage was our first objective but the aim now is to finish top of the group," said Carra.

"We have a decent defensive record in the Champions League and hopefully we can keep that going.

"It is important to take advantage of playing PSV at home. It will be very difficult as they have great experience in the Champions League and they are doing very well in the Dutch league."

Yes Zenden is perfect for that role, apart from the minor drawbacks of not being able to pass to a teammate, or tackle without giving away a free kick, shooting on target or tracking his runners when we're defending. Actually Riise would make a better holding midfielder than Zenden, and that's saying something. I think Zenden has been utter rubbish. The only conceivable use I can think of for him is using his shoulder as a spare part for Momo.

Totally agree Xerxes. Zenden was finished when we signed him. a chelsea reject who wouldn't get in their reserve team right now. IMO we must persevere with Gonzalez till he comes good. Luis behind Kuyt if he's fit.

Surely we might as well win the group - is it not more financially rewarding anyway????   Let's just win this game, and then use the last match to rest Carra, Stevie, Kuyt, Finnan, et al...and give Paletta, Guthrie, Fowler and Peltier an extra game.

Well it looks like we will be trying to win the group. When we qualified, I thought that we might send some of our younger players out, but after the comments that Rafa, Carra and Reina made its properly going to be strong team, but I guess thats a good idea.
PSV are a really good team and have played some very good football lately.
I'm always looking forward too our Champions League matches, but especially at Anfield, cause the atmosphere is superb.
I think that a victory in this match, might give the lads more confidence ahead of the City match on Saturday, and I hope too see a very good match between two very good teams. It would be nice to see a very confident Liverpool team and hopefully we will se a victory to the Reds.

I would like to see this line-up on Wednesday:

--------------Dudek-------------
--Finnan-Hyypia-Agger-Warnock--
Luis Garcia-Alonso-Gerrard-Aurelio
---------Bellamy-Crouch---------
Subs:
Martin
Peltier
Pennant
Anderson
Gonzalez
Zenden
Fowler

In this way, Reina, Carragher, Riise and Kuyt would get a rest ahead of the weekends match, and won't be in any risk of getting an injury.
Well I hope to see a confident Liverpool team, who can hopefully controll the match and a Liverpool victory, that will help boost the confidence and the morale in the squad.
2-0 victory too Liverpool. The goals scored by Bellamy and Crouch.

Come on you Reds!

Top the group. Hopefully by doing this, it will give us confidence in the league (we have to take anything at the moment, realistically).

Agger has to start for me. It's no coincidence that our clean sheets come when he's on the paddock. I'd go for:

Reina
Finnan
Carra
Agger
Riise
Pennant
Gerrard
Xabi
Gonzo
Bellamy
Crouch

Bench
Dudek
Crouch
Hyypia
Zenden
Aurellio
Luis Garcia

                   Pepe
Peltier   Agger   Carra   Aurelio
            Alonso Zenden
  Garcia    Gerrard    Gonzalez
                 Crouch

That's what I'd go for, try and get some movement with the front 4 and the fullbacks bombing on.

I think a slower game like this would suit him, plus I think he could just do with some games under his belt.

I kind of agree, he does need games, this is important without being vital and might suit him.

I just mean I can see why Rafa said in the beginning he was seen more as a left mid than left back, that's all.

I'd like to see us play a strong side and start to build some confidence. The next game we have Man City who are an easier prospect at home than PSV so it might be better to rest a couple there, and four days after that we have Pompey who are flying high so again we should play a strong team. Istanbul is a long journey and if we send out a lighter squad in this competition it should be for that one, having already qualified as group winners.

I was thinkin' in the same line.

No Peltier against Farfán then.
