Only seen them play once.  On a late night/early morning Channel 5 effort.  They looked pretty poor, to be honest.  Very ropey at the back against an average Ligue1 outfit.  However, they're bound to raise their game against us.  Be interesting to see what side Rafa puts out.
Sound as a pound!

just been on the french local radio in bordeaux with david "bugsy"burrows, he now lives near there.

the town is starting to see the red army arrive and the banners are out for your welcome especially at the connermara pub.

we talked a bit about liverpools dodge start to the season and maybe bordeaux taking advantage of that but i said that europe is a whole different ball game especially with the 12th man in town and they could expect something different if sissoko and kuyt are fit to play.

everything is set up for a party and a half when you get to town. lets hope we come away with the three points in the bag.

I'd expect a very rotated looking side out for this with United in mind and I think Rafa would be happy enough with a 0-0...he's spoken about 4 points over 2 games being sufficient...if Warnock and Zenden don't play my name's Jan Vennegor of Hesselink II...

Reina

Finnan Carragher Hyypia Warnock

Pennant Alonso Zenden Aurelio

Crouch Louey

Stevie saved for OT and no chances taken with Momoisboss, Dagger or Dirtbike

If anyone is going to be saved for OT it's Alonso. Gerrard has hardly played for two weeks so should be able to play two games in 5 days.

...........Reina

Finn Carra Agger Riise

Pennant Gerrard Zenden Aurelio

..........Garcia

...........Crouch

Does dun mean don't ?  ::)

dun kno.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see Stevie on the bench, as has been pointed out, and I also think it's likely that Zenden will get a game. Of course it depends on the fitness of Sissoko; if he doesn't make it then I expect Gerrard will start through the middle.

Up top, again it depends on Kuyt's fitness, but if he isn't fit I wouldn't be surprised to see Garcia start just behind Crouch, as it seems Bordeaux will sit fairly deep and hit us on the counter.

We really need to get a fucking grip on this game and win it comfortably 2-0, with us in control - anything to give us some confidence for Sunday, which is almost as important as the three points on the night.
It's hard enough remembering my opinions without remembering my reasons for them.

Anyone know when they are travelling to France and if the squad will include our recovering  players(Kuyt, Momo, Fowler, Agger) ?
Many are picking Momo & Danny in their predicted lineups, so are they available for the game?

Agger hasn't travelled - his arm is still in a splint at the moment.

Kuyt had a fitness test at 6pm and passed and so is travelling out early 2moro with the rest of them.

Gerrard has a back injury and is staying in Liverpool.

Momo has travelled as far as I know. At least he can drink just before and during the game on Wed.

We are a team of one half.

I'm Looking forward to this Champions League match.
A win will definitely boost the team and give some of the players more confidence before the important match against United in the weekend. I really hope to see Sissoko back in the team, cause we really missed him against Blackburn and he will without a doubt strengthen the team.

If Gerrard turns out to be injured then I guess it could be a good thing and a bad thing. Gerrard would get a rest and be ready for the United match without having the risk of getting injured, but he is an important player to us eventough he didn't have the start to the season as we could have wanted.

I hope to see this team on Wednesday in France:

--------------Reina--------------
--Finnan-Carragher-Hyypia-Riise--
Gerrard-Sissoko-Alonso-Luis Garcia
----------Bellamy-Crouch---------
Subs:
Dudek
Paletta
Warnock
Aurelio
Gonzalez
Pennant
Zenden

I hope to see a good match. And I'm personally looking forward to see Vladimir Smicer again. I still have lots of optimism and I hope to see a match where we will be in control and securing a victory on 2-0. The goals will come from Gerrard and Bellamy. And lets not get any more injuries.

Come on you Reds!

Oh don't get me wrong - I wouldn't be at all surprised if he hadn't played on Wednesday even if he had been fit.

We certainly shouldn't need him to get the required result in Bordeaux and it is much more important that he plays on Sunday

I can see the team lining up like this
------------reina-------------
finnan-carra-sami-warnock/aurelio
garcia-momo-zenden-alonso
          crouch-bellamy

can see this one being cautious early on, dont think bordeaux are a particularly good team IMO, if we control the tempo early on and win the battle in the middle we should be able to nick a win.

Just said on radio Gerrard is out due to a hamstring injury

EDIT - Just seen earlier post by ShanklyGates, well whether it's back/hamstring looks like he's out anyway

GERRARD OUT OF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE CLASH
Paul Eaton 17 October 2006

Steven Gerrard has been ruled out of tomorrow night's Champions League clash in Bordeaux with a minor hamstring injury.
The Liverpool squad will depart for France this morning without their skipper, who will stay behind to receive treatment at Melwood.

Speaking at Melwood today, manager Rafael Benitez explained: "Steven felt something in his hamstring after the Blackburn game and he is still feeling it.

"We have spoken with the doctor and decided it's not worth taking a risk with him and so he won't be involved in Bordeaux. If this was the last game of the season and he needed to play then he could, but at this moment we think it's too big a risk.

"I think it's just a matter of an extra couple of days and then he will be fine."

Benitez also revealed the Reds will be without Robbie Fowler and Daniel Agger in France as both players continue to recover from knocks.

Momo Sissoko and Dirk Kuyt will travel, but it's unlikely both will figure in the game.

"I would say Momo has an eighty per cent chance of playing and Kuyt just twenty per cent," added Benitez.

Lee Peltier has been added to the travelling party.

I'd be more careful with the predictions...I live in France & watch a lot of games...OK Bordeaux are having problems at the moment but the w/ends win against Monaco will give them a boost & Micoud is a class player...we should beat them but if our defense or Reina has a shocker (as often they do ) then we could lose this one. The important thing is to not underestimate them & go for a win... Kuyt & Crouch up front a strong middle...no lightweights cos we must control the middle of the park & keep the ball moving....& as ever watch out for the counter attack as Darcheville maybe "Grosnaldo" but he's quick & strong & Laslandes is good in the air which is something we are not. All in all I'd settle for o=o but a "good" LFC should win this one ...just depends on which LFC turns up & can they finally play well for 90 minutes...something that I've rarely seen under Rafa...or anyone else for that matter since King Kenny was manager !!!!!

QFT

On our current away form and the girondins being well up for this game, I'd be happy with a sound performance and a scoring draw. I'd prefer better but I think that this is about as tricky as games are going to be in this group.

I'd love to hammer them, but let's be honest, we have to start converting our chances before we can even predict winning away games. I'd take any points scoring result and being without Gerrard, Kuyt, Momo, Agger & God that's probably as good a prediction as you'll get.

Indeed.

I'd be more concerned that it looks like Momo will still be missing.

When all is down he's the only one who's still running at 100km/h, taking on defenders, getting to the end of those passes, diving into tackles, and most especially scoring those critical goals. My Man Utd fan colleague said that's the problem with the guy - he only plays like superman when there's a need to rescue something.
Someone should do the right thing - go back in time to 1992 and destroy the codes to Championship Manager before it is ever released
