SIX CHANGES FOR REDS V PSV
Mark Platt in Eindhoven 12 September 2006

Rafael Benitez has rung the changes for Liverpool's opening group game in the 2006/07 Champions League by making six changes to the team that lost Saturday's Merseyside derby.

The big news is that captain Steven Gerrard starts on the bench, as does Sami Hyypia, Xabi Alonso, Peter Crouch and Luis Garcia.

Into the starting eleven comes Bolo Zenden, Daniel Agger, Stephen Warnock, Jermaine Pennant, Dirk Kuyt and Craig Bellamy.

Team in full: Reina, Finnan, Warnock, Agger, Carragher, Sissoko, Zenden, Aurelio, Pennant, Kuyt, Bellamy. Subs - Dudek, Hyypia, Gerrard, Garcia, Gonzalez, Alonso, Crouch.

Looks like a solid starting lineup. Can see he went with Zenden and Kuyt the dutch connection, hoping they'll have a leg-up on PSV.

Interested to see what Aurelio can do given a full game at left wing (provided Warnock doesn't get injured.)

Sissoko has been better than either of them so far this season, and Zenden should be up for the game given it's against his old club.

Makes sense with the Chelsea game coming up, plus Kuyt and Zenden know the Dutch game, I am surprised he hasn't started with Gonzales on the left though

All the best to Kromkamp..............................after tonight

Its going to be an obvious: (me thinks)

------------------------------Reina--------------------------

Finnan----------Carragher--------Agger-------Warnock

Pennant-------Sissoko--------Zenden----------Aurelio(could keep swapping with warnock)

------------------Kuyt----------------------------------------
-----------------------------------Bellamy-------------------
He wasn't perfect, he made mistakes. But he was genuine. He had the best interests of the club at heart, and gave us a plethora of successful teams that we should have been thankful for.

Good team, lots of pace going foward and I'm delighted to see Agger get the call (nothing against Hyypia)

Very impressive line up (on the bench!). Hopefully the first eleven can do the job for us. It looks a well balanced team but as always the midfield will be key. If Bolo and Momo can supply Pennant, Bellamy and Kuyt we'll be all right.

Hopefully we'll see Agger delivering a few good balls up to the wingers aswell.

Stevie could do a lot of damgage in an away fixture from the bench. Keep 0-0 and unleash him for last 1/2 hr, I reckon.

Much stronger by the look of it. I wish Gerrard was playing instead of zenden

Intresting team. Should have a fair bit of width. Really looking forward to see Kuyt start, and how he works with Bellamy. Bit worried about Sissoko and Zenden in the middle, will undoubtedly miss Gerrard, and Xabi, but there on the bench if we need them. Bit surprised Sami has been left out, normally a cert for big European games like this, with his experience and all, thought I may have been Sami and Agger, with Carrager maybe not being fully fit, but meh, in Rafa we trust.

Not moaning at rotation as it is a necessary fact of the game especially with a large squad however doesn't the concept of rotation go against Benitez's other concept of only thinking about the next game?
