Marseille Confirm Cisse Capture
« on: July 12, 2006, 03:07:52 pm »
Marseille have announced the signing of Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse.

The move has been mooted for some time and now the French club have confirmed Cisse will play at Stade Velodrome next season.

Cisse has been a long-term target for Marseille as they have been chasing him for over a year.

The 24-year-old was told earlier this summer that he could leave Anfield as he did not figure in Rafa Benitez's plans.

Cisse has joined Marseille initially on a season-long loan with the option of a permanent deal.

The jet-heeled forward admitted his heart was set on a switch to Marseille.

"My choice was always Marseille," Cisse told the club's official website.

The former Auxerre ace is currently recovering from a broken leg and he is not expected to be back playing until October.

Fair well Djib, thanks for the super cup  ;)
He wasn't perfect, he made mistakes. But he was genuine. He had the best interests of the club at heart, and gave us a plethora of successful teams that we should have been thankful for.

Good riddance to bad rubbish frankly. Rarely have I seen a professional footballer with less of a clue how to play the game.

I thought he was a good player because Jose picks him first in the +10 Adidas dream team TV commercial.

Lets not turn this into a thread of if he was good or not, just best to wish him luck for the future, he will fit in perfectly in another club

Good Luck Cisse

anyone got idea of the details ?
surely we've agreed a price ?
or is it someone we just want off the wage bill ?
he must still be a saleable asset, so the deal must include a price.

I haven't as a matter of fact. I get your point though.

The man was clueless, his attitude was a cancer and he contributed nothing apart from the odd flash that added to the frustration of everyone when he'd hopelessly over run the ball, get caught offside, miss a sitter.

Rafael Benitez today insisted Djibril Cisse will benefit from his season long loan at Marseille.

Cisse will spend this season with the French club and could sign a permanent deal at the end of the campaign if he proves his fitness after recovering from a broken leg.

The Liverpool manager insists the move is in Cisse's best interests and believes he will benefit from regular football once he returns to action.

He said: "We have an agreement with Marseille for Djibril to go on loan. It is a good move for him because he needs to play.

"He has had two bad injuries and it will suit him better to play in France."

Interesting use of the word 'could' in this statement.

Does that mean he 'could' stay here as well or is it just refering to the injury situation?
That could be taken both ways.  Not quite so clear cut as we were led to believe then!

HeŽs gone to Marseille on a loan, if he discovers his goal scoring abilities again there, who knows what Rafa might do.

Cisse was never the finished item when he came to us, and it showed. Who know what heŽll be like in a year.

If the move is permanent then I wish him all the best, I have no reason whatsoever to wish him ill or to slate him. Good luck Djibs mate!

I was in Old Trafford in January. I will never forgive the clown for missing from no yards.

well he is leaving, but i will say that he did his bit in all 3 cups that we landed under benitez.

goals against cska and west ham, and a critical pen in the shoot out [milan could have got back in it if he had missed].

of course there are his other goals, which contributed in some way to our great league performance, and he played out of position.

i aint defending him, he is leaving for a reason, but you could at least try to remember what he did for the club to balance your opinion a tad.

Best wishes Cisse, shame it didn't work out  :wave

Good luck mate, I for one don't think your time here was a waste. I reckon 19 goals a season is a great return, especially considering some of the roles he had to play (wide left, wide right and lone striker). I reckon as frustrating as it was for us it must have been doubly frustrating for him.

Playing out of position is something most players have to put up with once in a while, but Djib went virtually all season out of position.
This probably won't go down too well, but imagine asking Carra to play right back, then ask him to venture into the opposition half, then ask him to get to the goal line and send over a cross, then drop him cos he isn't able to deliver - we only started dreaming of a team of Carraghers when he moved to centre back, prior to that under Ged he was a capable fullback who daren't venture over the half way line.

OM will get the best out of Djib. That'll be good news for us, it'll mean he comes back full of confidence or we get most of our outlay back.  This is a man who would've figured significantly in the French team at the World Cup. Someone knows how to get the best out of him. That is wasn't (or isn't) us is a shame.

So once again good luck Djib and thanks for the memories - however fleeting.

Cisse was never the finished item when he came to us, and it showed. Who know what heŽll be like in a year.

I don't think so. We've seen that he can score in France and we've seen what he can do in the Premiership. Rafa seems to have seen enough and I don't think we'll see him again in a red shirt. If he recovers and does well, OM will surely make the deal permanent, if there's an option included...

However, all the best to the player. It's a pity it didn't work out with him, but he worked hard on his comeback after his first broken leg and although some people would disagree, I think he did always give his best when he was on the pitch...

The Liverpool record will show: Djibril Cisse - European Cup winner, Super Cup winner, FA Cup winner.  24 goals in 79 games.

Nothing to be ashamed of.  Good luck with the rest of your career, Djib.  Hope to see you back at Anfield as either a fan or an opposing player.

Expected move of course, but my only concern is how much we will be able to clawback next year if they decide to keep him - I can see us getting shafted but I guess theres nothing much Liverpool can do.

Its a shame that its not worked out, but Rafa (and Liverpool) has high standards and Cisse falls short in the areas we need

Good luck Djib and get well soon!

I think the main reason it never worked out for him was that he was signed by Houllier and then found himself with a new manager when Sir Rafa came in.

It is a shame Cisse never had the luck but nevertheless he did score some important goals.

Shame he never scored against the Mancs.

Sorry mate...but that's total bollocks

Think he could have achieved more had he been used more. 18 goals as a bit part player last season wasnt bad really. Can think of much bigger flops. El Hadji Diouf a case in point

Will do well at Marseille once he regains fitness. Had he had a bit more luck he could have succeeded here even if his original price tag was inflated. He maybe was just one of those sorts of confidence players who rotation policies dont really suit...

Good luck Djib. Unlike some i am pretty gutted your going as i think you have a lot of goals in you.
