The National Anthems Thread
« on: June 18, 2006, 03:27:19 PM »
Obviously with the World cup and listening to the various national anthems of all the countries taking part, (and being badly sung of course by their own players  :D ) just wondered what is your second favourite national anthem, behind your own nations of course.

I had a look on the net, and I found this, if some of you need your memories refreshed.

http://themes.mididb.com/anthems/

Hours of endless listening if you've got nothing better to do.

I dunno why, but I really like the Italians and Germans for some stupid fuckin reason.  :P

The American national anthem, when done well, can be stunningly superb.

Radiohead's "The National Anthem", as Sub so correctly points out, beats all of the others into a cocked hat.

Italys...

I missed it in Poznan this summer, I was rushing into the stadium to catch it and was at the turnstiles ready to have the ticket scanned, before I put it through I didnt wait for the the gate to close so as it turned about two inches it registered my ticket, luckily there was a steward behind me who seen what happened, but it still took about fine minutes to rectify the situation and I missed both anthems, gutted. My fault for not talking my time.

I like the 'anthem' they blast out before the Irish international rugby matches, it must really pump them paddies up. Don't think it's their national anth though.

"Ireland's Call". You're right, it's not our national anthem and most people I know find it embarrassing to be honest,

Really, why's that? I suppose, if England sang it I'd hate it. Never really thought about it like that before though.

I agree. That is amazing! Best one I think.

The US anthem is too difficult for most people to sing. Even accomplished singers have problems. But when someone really nails it, it's pretty fantastic. Whitney Houston's was the best one ever. The ending is just wow.
