Ouch.

How did his bike get so messed up? Did he crash or did it get battered in transit?
he's not sure.Been sent back to Orbea though.

I'd like to say I'm surprised, but I'm not.Anyone who cycle's could tell you a similar story.I got knocked off standing at a junction and the driver got off, left me with a broken hip,on my birthday too. ;D It wasn't so funny back then though.

You just have to get back on and put it out of your mind,if you don't then you're not going to be able to ride your bike.
Not at those price's Tony.I've bought shirt's like that from Ebay, and there ok,especially in the winter.I do like the Rapha one, might get one of those.
Are these what you mean? There a bit stupid. ;D

I've seen more svelte SPD ones, but yeah same idea, probably best for people who don't feel comfortable being clipped in or if you have a hybrid and fancy as casual ride.

I use Endura. They are the wet suit neoprene material and they are the best thing I have kit wise. Bought them from Leisure Lakes if that's a LBS nationwide?

I bet you are kev, its got excellent reviews. Nah not bored with my bike just greedy. Starting to get carbon envy. My missus said I deserved it , as she thought it was mid life crisis 2 years ago when I got a bike again but she says she is a cycle widow these days.so that's given me a pleasant dilemma.
In all fairness my synapse is superb but like I said I'm greedy.

Haha, Billy has got the bug. I am reminded of an amusing cycling rule list someone posted a couple of years back. They had a rule on how many bikes you should own.  They honed it down to two equations

Nbd = n+1

Where:
Nbd = the desired number of bikes owned
n = current number of bikes owned

However this equation is limited by this overriding equation

Nbo = d-1

Where:
Nbo = Optimum number of bikes
d = number of bikes which would lead to divorce

Thanks very much - that's good news because I went with the following in the end, hopefully they'll be a good entry point for me:

Shoes: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/dmt-country-20-mtb-shoes-2012/
Pedals: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-pd-a520-touring-pedals-1/
Cleats: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-spd-mtb-cleats/

I went for the multi release cleats for no other reason other than I assumed they would be easier for me as a beginner because I'll be able to get my foot released more easily should I need to?

Fudge - I'm not expert but what I can tell you is this; a year or two ago I did a half marathon and did a lot of training on a treadmill due to the fact I was training mostly over winter.  It was only when I started running outdoors that I realised that whilst I could cope easily with a 25 minute 5K on a treadmill, outdoors it was a completely different matter and I was way further back in my preparations than I thought I was.  If you equate that across I would suggest the majority of answers you'll get will be along the lines of 'just get out and ride!'.  Hope that's remotely helpful!

As Luke says totally different indoors to outdoors.

Not sure if you do any other sport or if you are active,if not then at your age (39?) doing 64 miles on a bike unprepared is not a good idea.

Cheers I will attempt to get my arse in gear then

Ah mate I rang these 2 days ago and they told me mid July for almost all the cubes.
But you're right its easy enough to ride up there and take a look myself. At least I would be able to try for size, especially as cubes come up short

Anyone had a bike custom-made before?

Thinking about getting one made by Comtat - http://www.comtat.co.uk/
They've got a showroom in London and the guy reckons you can get one knocked for around £4000. Frame is handmade in Italy and all the components look real quality.

Or would it be better to buy a better known brand Pinarello, BMC, Specialized and then pay someone to fit it perfectly to your profile?

All ideas welcome :)

Billy got a mate who ordered a 2012 peleton months ago from a LBS and is still waiting, seems really is hard to get hold of them. I ride a Cube its a cross frame with ultergra and have I no complaints great value apart from it not being a road bike ;) , Aluminium frame which can at times be a bit harsh if the road cuts up but no complaints about quality. Been reading normal mags and not from any direct experience but the Trek Madones 3.1 and 3.5 look similar to what you're looking at and get fantastic reviews at £1400 or £1800.

If going to spend that sort of money on a custom build I'd go for either 953 steel or titanium.Carbon has a limited life, steel or ti will last as long as you do and beyond. Also they are both repairable too.

But if I was getting a custom carbon frame this is who I'd get  it from.

http://www.cyfac.fr/Index.aspx  Beautiful carbon frames.

Also seeing as your in London you really should visit Mosquito Bikes, probably the best shop in London.

I would agree - you want a custom bike to last and not crack if you have an accident. I've got a custom Titanium bike from Seven and it is simply fantastic. Very compliant ride but sufficient stiffness to allow for good power transfer. You'll feel less tired after a ride than you will with a carbon bike and the frame will last a lifetime. No corrosion or rust either which you will get with even the best steel frames after years of use.  A mate of mine strongly recommends Pretorius bikes in London and has a custom Titanium Tom there. The eponymous owner is an ex pro. If you are looking to spend that sort of money, do consider a Ti bike.

The madones are indeed decent bikes mate. My LBS is out of them also! Seems any decent bikes are in demand which is good in a way. I can get Treks elsewhere though but i have an urge to get a cube so i'll see how the stock levels go for now.
