What is it with triathletes isn't cycling hard enough. ;)
It's not proper cycling though is it!  Just like it's not proper distance swimming or running either which is what makes it so much fun - the half marathon was the dullest, most horrific thing I've ever done; that amount of running for that amount of time was easily the worst thing I've ever done in my life (as far as sport is concerned anyway!).

I've only ever done one triathlon before (and that was after only two practice swims and one practice ride coupled with the training I did for the half that was six months prior to the triathlon) and I loved every second of it (admittedly it was only a sprint tri so half Olympic distance).  We had a kid last year so I dropped all training for a while so this time I'm going to give it a proper go.  Swimming's always been something I've enjoyed and been lucky enough to be alright at so that doesn't worry me; the cycling is the best bit for me (in terms of enjoyment) and then comes the hell of the run which I hate.  I'm hiring a proper road bike to do it on (did it on a mountain bike last time which was, um, different - 20KM in 50 mins was alright though I guess) and I'm going to put in some real run training in and some time in our local lido as it's 54 meters wide and they let you wear a wetsuit which is great training.

Anyway, sorry to bang on about it in a cyclists thread (I'd recommend trying it to anyone though!) - one thing I would add is that I am sure I've played bass guitars with bigger tuning pegs than those 'pedals' Pheeny!  I assume you chose the red versions, right?!

Cheers Dave - you have to contractually add 'only' just so the people doing the real triathlon don't get angry!

70km today - the whole of the Camel Trail and back plus extras. Nice and muddy at the top end of the trail (Wenfordbridge) - stunning scenery though. Thankfully no fucking tourists on the upper stretches.

You get some right knobheads on the Padstow-Wadebridge section. I shouted at one earlier, who didn't appreciate being told his entire family plus dogs taking up the entire width and not allowing anyone else past, "Oh I'm sorry - is our local leisure amenity interfering with your tourist attraction?" Tosser.

Not as hardcore as you lot, I know, but I'm fatter, older, more grey and a lot less fit than I was in the days I could spend 8 hours a day in the saddle and still have energy to go clubbing afterwards ;)

Maybe I'm a bit of a poseur then but there's no way I'd wear them things! ;)

The only benefit I could see would be the walking around. If mtb shoes were comfier over distance, or tours then the whole pro peloton would have them! I guess it's personal choice but leave the mtb stuff for mtb's, and the weird shit for triathletes.
Lol, the only reason the Peloton would or would not use them is whether or not they make you go faster...

I read through this thread a couple of weeks ago and the Charge Spoon saddle was mentioned with positive reviews, so I bought one from Wiggle online, only cost me 20 Euros as well. Great saddle, I really like it. So, whoever posted the link, cheers!

Incidently, they still have a couple left for about 20 Euros.

I was supposed to be going to Hebden Bridge via Sabden and Trawden today, but John picked the wrong day to work.Tit.

So I decided to do a ride we do,it's 24 mile's long with 2000 feet of climbing.

So I did 4 lap's,and I'm absolutely knackered.14 mile's to the start,plus 96 mile's in lap's and 14 back home.I haven't worked so hard for age's.

I've been in since 5 and only just got a shower. This cycling lark is too hard. ;D

Got pushed off my bike this morning on way to work. Was waiting at lights when the window comes down on this black Renault Clio and arms come out and shove me and drove off. Ended up on the pavement. Few scrapes on my elbow and side. And scratched my frame on the kerb. Only had the bike a few weeks too.
What is wrong with the world. I was only trying to get to work. I couldn't have done anything to upset the bloke as I was already at lights when he pulled up.

I'd like to say I'm surprised, but I'm not.Anyone who cycle's could tell you a similar story.I got knocked off standing at a junction and the driver got off, left me with a broken hip,on my birthday too. ;D It wasn't so funny back then though.

You just have to get back on and put it out of your mind,if you don't then you're not going to be able to ride your bike.

Not at those price's Tony.I've bought shirt's like that from Ebay, and there ok,especially in the winter.I do like the Rapha one, might get one of those.

Jesus wept, some people really are arseholes aren't they.  Hope you and your bike are alright mate.

As I was walking home from work today some bloke and his wife (I assume wife, if it's an affair I'd hate to see his wife) were driving down the road and just turned and drove along the pavement for about 100 yards before stopping and starring at me as if I was in the wrong for being in their way by walking on a pavement.  He had his window open so I casually said "It's a pavement..." to him and he started on me and told me to "SHUT UP!"  Sometimes I swear I live in the Twilight Zone.

Anyway, used the new shoes and cleats this morning; worked like a charm and lovely and comfy so thanks all for the advice.

there is no way I'd wear MTB shoes on a long distance ride.

I find my road shoes are far more comfortable.

These are my pedals/cleats...

Pheeny, I moved from Shimano pedals to speedplay zeros about a year back. The Shimano pedals are great all-rounders and very user friendly, but they kept unclipping when getting up for the sprint during a race.

I find the speedplays are great if you wan't to stay clipped in, but the black metal retaining spring in the cleats keep snapping (3 sets now) and a set of cleats are nearly £30 a go.

Had our summer break in May for the family and this one was just 5 nights in Benidorm me and the missus for our 25th wedding anniversary. She didn't have a clue where we were going until the taxi driver said 'it's Liverpool isn't it?'
Anyway, back on track and now i've really got to get the peddles turning. A full 8kg over my weight 4 weeks back and only 1 small ride in all that time. Way too much food and drink. Those all inclusives kill ya!

So 6 days in Tuscany, about 600k with 6000 plus metres of climbing.  One prang, caused by hitting the embankment coming downhill at speed, somersaulting over the handlebars and landing on my back, leading to some cuts and scrapes all the way down the left side of my body and badly bruised ribs on my back.

Beautiful countryside, great riding and company and outstanding food.

Cheers mate, this is an annual tour that a bunch of chaps all around the world (from work) do somewhere in Europe.  The people know each other well so the banter is great.  It gets competitive but not very so there is some hard riding coupled with breaks for lunch and coffees and enjoying the countryside.

Mate in work just  rode the Mt Ventoux in a competition ,total of over 240km in an avg of 28.5kph.

Half way up he had two spokes snap on his €500 wheel, some kind soul lent him his reserve,a cheap one but he could continue.

They made arrangements to meet at the summit, needless to say the twat was nowhere to be seen...

What makes matters worse he cleaned his bike on his return to find a large crack in the frame...
There was a fine mod, name of Pheeny
Who'd ne'er be seen dead in a beany
He'd go for long runs
To tone abs, thighs and buns
And his moustache was far, far from teeny

Ouch.

How did his bike get so messed up? Did he crash or did it get battered in transit?
