is there anywhere in Liverpool that rent bikes, thinking maybe next year we could have a RAWK "sportive" ?
I've done a quick search Tony, and there's Liverpool Bicycle.co.uk .Have a look on there. It look's like it's part of the Giant shop,on Parliament Street.Sorry i can't post a link i'm too stupid, and i'm in a rush to go out on my bike for the day.Off to Ramsbottom to climb the Rake ::).I'm never going to learn, this is a  short, sharp reminder that i'm not the rider i think i am.Let me know if that was any good, mate.Have a good day everyone. :wave

Sounds a good idea Tony, if we can work out the practicalities.

At one point in my life when I had young kids and my wife needed the car to go to work but I needed it for the kids during the day. I had a Brompton (still got it but never use it) we'd work opposite each other and i'd cycle from my work to hers pick up the car and lash the Brompton in the boot.  Now the bromptons an easy folder but I can't tell you how much of a pain continually folding and unfolding it was so for any folder the ease you can fold it is a big consideration. Secondly a folded bike is usually heavy, have a go at carrying it folded up and remember how far you'll need to carry it on the station, one bike might be too heavy. Thirdly looks, which bike looks more 'normal' when I first got my Brompton i was younger and angrier, it was a magnet for little kiddas to shout comments at and I was always reacting, jumping off my bike, i had to learn not to react, it was hard that might not be a problem for you, me being a little nark when i was young, it was.

As for what to look out for on a test ride, you're not buying a bike for speed but comfort, which bike feels the best, especially over crap roads. however you may want a modicum of performance, only you will know what feels right for you and what compromises you are happy with what riding apart from commuting will you do and which bike would suit your needs outside of going to work. is the suspension just adding weight? for commuting do you need loads of gears etc. make sure you adjust the seat height etc so the bike fits you; a rule of thumb is when your sitting on the saddle riding and your pedal is at its lowest point your leg should be nearly straight with just a slight bend at the knee.  Good luck, take your time ask questions and see which bike you like the best.

Thanks for the reply! Useful info to keep in mind

Evans have just phoned me and told me the Montague won't be available until mid-April. That was the one I was leaning towards from a bit of internet research too :-(

Would be keen on a RAWK sportive on Merseyside, ideally combined with watching a game and some decent eating in Liverpool.

Tony, the bike hire shop only  has city bike,s or mountain bike's.It's based in the Giant shop,so probably Giant bike's.

Done 52 miles with my mate yesterday. He struggled to keep up last time but yesterday he was on the pace all day. Must be doing some good as we got up Frodsham hill quite easily. Usually really tough. Very windy which made it hard work.

Is that easy enough to do Tony? Saw a guide you posted a page back but that suggested something like a base map being required first.

Seriously mate, when you go to Frodsham do you go on the A56? If you do,take the first left after the railway station,Fluin Lane, straight up to the end, turn left onto the B road, then first right onto Church Road Take the second left, onto Bellemonte Road, stay on this till Simons Lane past the golf course, then right onto the Manley Road.Carry on on that road and follow the sign's for Kelsall  There are a couple of nice climb's in there. That's if you have'nt already done them.

Have a look on Google map's.

Left my bike locked up in the stairwell of the rehearsal rooms I use, on Saturday night. Came in Sunday morning to find someone had thrown it down the basement stairs and pissed all over it, every inch of it. Both wheels buckled, one was only about a month old as well.

It's only an old mountain bike that my Dad gave me but dammit I ride that bike every day and after thousands of miles I feel attached to it. So f*ck you bike dis-respecting c*nts. I hope karma exists just so it throws you down the stairs you epic fucktrons.

1st ride since commuting 21 miles on Monday today. 15.5 miles nonstop (okay 2 stops on the hills) in 1 hour 34 with 800 ft of climbing (according to bike hike) with nearly all of it between miles 3 and 6, made it nice and easy on the way home though. I'm amazed how much easier it was compared to Monday. Also first ride with SPD's, what a fucking difference they make and no 'moments' with them either. Time for a bath.

Well done, amazing how your body learns and adapts so quickly to meet new stresses and demands.

You will get that 15.5 miles down towards an hour soon if you keep at it steadily. And then you can do the rawk sportive :)
