My chain snapped on the way into work yesterday, pushed it to work and discovered later in the day that I'd managed to lose it too. :(
if the chain snapped it probably needed changing anyway.

I always feel the need to readjust at each stop no matter how good the shorts are. I paid £70 for some bib shorts and they are pretty good but always feels better after an adjustment as I say.
thing is with padded shorts they have to fit "perfectly" otherwise you do have to readjust them.

I've got shorts that cost over €100 and I still have to adjust them whereas on the other hand I've got 2 "cheaper" ones (DHB from wiggle and a pair from Decathlon.) and they are fine.

I think the whole front mech needs to be replaced as well, it's been due for a while. :(

afternoon guys.  I've just recently bought my first "proper" road bike, a Giant Defy Composite 3.  It's been great so far and I intend to look after this one properly.  However, I'm useless at knowing how to properly look after it so have bought a book!

Anyway, a quick question, last week before a ride I put on some chain lube on the chain and casette.  I've been told I should have wiped it off better but I was wondering if that was the reason I noticed the gears didn't work properly or click into place for a long time?  Is there anything I should do to ensure that doesn't happen again.

This was the ride.  Was a rare sunny day in northern ireland!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/201449140

Ps does anyone use Strava here?

Welcome aboard - sound like you need a readjust on the rear mech - its a case of tightening or untightening the cables with the adjuster...trial and error will get it right...but your bike shop will do it for you if you pop in if you dont fancy it...and you always get some cable strectching with a brand new cable so it always needs a adjust after a few weeks riding

Ah ok.  Thanks very much.  So it's nothing to do with my chain lube stuff?

This would be why the bike shop told me to take it back to them after a month for a service then I'm guessing?

Looking at replacing my road bike which was nicked a few weeks ago. Narrowed it down to choice of 3:
Trek 2.1
Ghost Race 4900
Bianchi Via Nerone 7

Really like the look of the Ghost and the wheels and frame look to be far better than the others. Only thing slightly off-putting is that its Tiagra groupset as opposed to the 105 on the Trek and Campy Xenon on the Bianchi.
Any one got any recomendations ? They all come in at £1000 and are therefore eligible for Ride2Work which is nice !

Yep all your cables will stretch a bit so the bike show will adjust them for you - nothing to do with lube - chain needs that to help it run smoother...of course there are a million differnet lubes and an equal amount of theories as to whats the right one/right amount to put on the chain...

Don't worry about the £1000 ceiling on the bike scheme. If you can afford it, any bike shop will be delighted to relieve you of a few hundred extra quid for the next model up.for cash.

I guess buying a really good pair of cycling shorts can mean a big difference right? Does anyone know what type of inside (is it called chamios?) is the best to buy? Natural rather than man made I guess what I'm asking?

I go commando with cycling shorts. Try that out. Also, buy yourself a tub of sudocrem (grey tub/red writing in baby section) and apply that to sore areas after shower.

If you're wearing something under your cycling shorts, you're doing it wrong. I know what Sudocrem is. But I don't have any problems. I ride a Brooks, you know.

Did you mean to reply to someone else?

Regarding real chamois (leather) vs the synthetic stuff, I'd go for synthetic. Real chamois needs looking after.

I tried that with leisure lakes and they wouldn't budge. I was offering to pay £50 for a shitty pump to make it up to £1050, and they just would not budge!
