Even after Saturday, had it not been for the turn of events, it would not have been worth my while or yours to write to you about the fact that you will, as a team, only cross the threshold of true greatness to which you are currently so close if you lose that cynical, devious intent to cheat referees which so readily duped one referee at Anfield this year in April, and at which such concerted efforts were again made on Saturday. And as for Mills, well, I won’t sully this note with the only language I could use. So again, I won’t bother.

So why am I writing ?

It’s in order to thank you, personally and on behalf of so many Liverpool fans who I know concur both with the observations above, and with what I am about to say : you have been a true friend to the Houlliers in their time of need, and therefore to us all as Liverpool fans, and to all true football fans in general.

Your stock is greatly enhanced on Merseyside and amongst us Liverpudlians in diaspora. And - given some of the foregoing observations - that, to us on the terraces, has come as a surprise, and a very welcome one. I wish you well in conveying that true spirit of friendship, sportsmanship, humanity and yet friendly rivalry to your squad and the culture of your club in general. Then you may well become truly great.

I agree mate, he has certainly gone up in my estimation since saturday. Similar comments from Hoddle, Allardyce and wenger also, but o'Leary's gesture will be the one that sticks in my mind...seems so out of keeping with his and his teams past actions, but good on him anyways.

It's not so much what he said as what he's done ... staying in Liverpool til tonight, helping the family get travel arrangements sorted, etc ... seems he's been a top bloke and a real friend to them ...

I must say I was was a bit pissed off with O'Leary after the game. He pretty much said that in these circumstances football doesn't matter, but having said that they should have won, they were denied a clear-cut penalty and they deserved all three points.

I don't care how pally he is (or has been) that really got under my skin.

And have you noticed that since he's put a bit of weight on, his chin has disappeared into his neck?

Rox - whining is second nature to The Gnome, so you don't honestly expect him to change that much.

I think his actions since the game have spoken louder than anything he's said. He deserves credit for that, but I still think he's a tosser.

And yes, I've been wondering where his chin went. And why his nostrils resemble those of Tubbs and Edward of the League of Gentlemen.

The two have been very good friends for years, and he is doing nothing beyond what most people would do.

Fair play to him - he has shown his nice side, but I'm with Rox on this one. Of course O'Leary's stock has risen, but only because it couldn't get much lower. O'Leary may be a nice bloke in real life - so might Alex Ferguson. But the reason we dislike them is to do with football.

O'Leary could chosen to have not mentioned the match at all, as it was clear by then that GH was ill. But he still got his comments in.

I didnt see his post-match interview but if he did talk about football and, more importantly, that his team was robbed, then i think that shows fairly bad taste.

I'm not saying what site it came from. I'm just lucky the IT spod wasn't a Blue or he'd have made more of a stink (well we expect that from bluenoses don't we??).

To be honest, this is the first time I've taken the time to lok around properly... including the articles posted. Paul Tomkins writes a neat ditty or two doesn't he?, splendid.

I can confidently say it deffinatly won't. And as our hosts use Apache and Zeus not shitty IIS you wont get any dodgy nasties caused by duff ms coding that leaves it voulnerable to dodgy worms.
