Soccer star's lively brows inspire charity anthem.
With a flick of his eyebrows, Alan Hansen is raising cash for a Merseyside cancer charity.
A rival World Cup song, which plays tribute to the football star's expressive eyebrows, is expected to outstrip the tournament's official England in the charts.
The tune, which fans can download from the internet, has a chorus dedicated to the rise and fall of Hansen's brows and has delighted Reds star Kenny Dalglish, whose wife's charity, the Marina Dalglish Cancer appeal, is benefiting from the song.
Kenny said: " I don't know where the idea came from - I've never noticed his eyebrows before. These days I just tend to notice his grey hair!"
Wife Marina, whose charity is raising funds for a specialist cancer care unit at Fazakerley hospital, added: "Alan was asked to link it to a charity and it was really good of him to choose ours. The song is hilarious - I've downloaded it and have it as my mobile ring tone. Who knows, it could catch on - it's a bit of fun."
Alan Hansen was equally happy with the lyrical tribute to his facial hair.
He said: " My wife tells me that she was afraid of my eyebrows when she first met me so I've tried to keep them under control over the years."
"Many people might think it's odd that I'm backing an England World Cup song but the more people download it the more money goes to charity."
" I first heard about the song when my daughter downloaded it from the website. Apparently Barrie Barlow was so inspired by my eyebrows that he wrote a song about them."
So far 6,500 people have downloaded the anthem by The Turnstyles featuring MC Jabber, earning 10p a time for the charity.
