This is all over the Irish media, the article below is from the reputable Irish Independent Newspapers.

The Red Tops, being more colourful in nature, are suggesting that more than two working girls are involved....

Chile duo sent home after Irish 'affair'

TWO key members of Chile's national soccer squad have been sent home from a European tour after women were discovered in their hotel rooms.

An official said midfielder Mark Gonzalez and striker Reinaldo Navia had been ordered to fly home from Ireland after Chile beat the home team 1-0 on Wednesday.

Chile failed to qualify for the World Cup.

But they are playing a series of friendlies in Europe to prepare for a regional Cup in 2007 in the Americas.

They are also preparing for classifying matches for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

"There was a disciplinary problem with our players . . . they had women in their room, so together with (coach) Nelson (Acosta), the head of the delegation and I decided to send them home," Reinaldo Sanchez, president of Chile's national professional soccer association, said.

The coach discovered the women in the players' rooms in the early hours of Friday morning of last week. Navia played for the Mexican teams America and Monterrey.

Gonzalez is attached to Liverpool.

liverpool ace Mark Gonzalez has been thrown out of the Chile squad for a breach of discipline.

Gonzalez and Reinaldo Navia were axed from the squad by Chile coach Nelson Acosta after breaking rules during their European tour.

The pair were sent home from the trip after the coach caught three girls in their rooms 24 hours after their friendly win over Republic of Ireland.

It has also been reported that both players were drunk, but Gonzalez has protested his innocence and insists he and Navia did nothing wrong.

"There has been a misunderstanding. As you can see I am famous in this place and three girls came to ask me for an autograph so we went up to my room and then we stayed there talking," said Gonzalez.

"Suddenly Acosta arrived and he didn't like that I was there with these girls.

"On the other hand I want to say that it's not true that Navia and I were drunk.

"That is something invented by someone that wants to make trouble."

Chile captain Luis Jimenez revealed the rest of the squad did not agree with Acosta's decision to axe Gonzalez and Navia.

"We don't agree with the decision of Acosta but we have to respect it," said Jimenez.

"This has been something very hard for the team and I hope that we can recover from this as soon as possible."

I remember readin years ago about a time when Fowler was up all night before a match banging some bird ( I remember it being the daughter of a Labour MP but i could be wrong - for all the lawyers out there)

I was thinking how fucking shite it was that Robbie was doing this before a big game, so looked up the match. God got a brace!!!!!

So he might have, might have not banged a bird. Who cares? If that makes him a bad husband/boyfriend then that is up to his wife/girlfriend but it doesn't affect his football ability.

He's done nothing illegal so let's leave it there

He's saying it was all innocent and a misunderstanding .... they were autograph hunters apparently... and it seems he has the support of his team mates , their captain is quoted as saying that they feel the coach made the wrong decision but feel they have to respect that it was his decision to make

Gonzalez angry at axe

Mark Gonzalez has threatened never to play for Chile again after being thrown out of the squad last week.

The Liverpool winger was sent home along with team-mate Reinaldo Navia from Chile's European tour after a breach of discipline.

Chile coach Nelson Acosta axed the pair after he caught three girls in their rooms 24 hours after their friendly win over Republic of Ireland.

Acosta's actions have made Gonzalez consider his international future as he admitted he was hurt by the decision to send him home.

"After what has happened a lot of damage has been made to me," said Gonzalez.

"I am in a great moment of my career and this gives me a lot of problems.

"Now I am going to think very careful if I will wear again the national shirt because I told Acosta that there was a misunderstanding with what happened in Dublin but even with my explanations he decided to sent me back to Chile.

"It has been something really stupid but it has put me into problems. The press of all the world has been talking about me and I don't like that at all.

"I am really ashamed about all this.

"Neither Navia or me were drunk and I have already explained that we were with three girls only giving them our autographs.

"The press should say things how they were and not make us be the bad ones of the matter."

So its called giving autographs now. ::)

Well saying as its his international appearances that were worrrying about for his work permit...

Like I said above ...

[...] it won't touch the work permit application, if you remember Yakubu succeeded on appeal because he had fallen out with the Nigerian FA after breaking a curfew, and he therefore could not get the requisite number of games ...

It's such a non-event really, isn't it?

If he says that he was signing autographs then fair enough. I'm not going to start judging him because I truthfully don't know what happened and he seems pretty positive that it was a mis-understanding. I'm not leaping to his defence here but he should get the work permit easily enough and then if he doesn't want to play for Chile then even better, because it means that's one player that won't be picking up ridiculous injuries away on international duty.
