I can't recall ever owning any pair of Nikes.

They generally last me a good few years. Well worth the price more often than not.

I tell a lie really, I have other Nikes, got a few pairs of Airmax and a pair of  Airforce 1's knocking about, I never wear either though, they were impulse online buys because they were cheap, quite comfortable, but with my size 12's they look like clown shoes. The Cortez are sound though, dead comfortable, got on them a few years ago when a lad I knew had a garage full of them, he didnt know many people with size 12's so he had them for ages, it was like his beer money stash, he used to turn up early on a friday night with a box under his arm claiming he had just happened to find this last pair under some junk in his garage, I bought about 6 'last pairs' off him all told :D

For what it's worth, in my opinion the Bluebird, Dallas and Top Winner are the three best types of Puma webs on the market at the moment. If you're set on that model though, I reckon the white pair is smarter.

If you're buying online, I think the Basket runs small. I'm a US 11 in everything, but needed to return and get 11.5 for them. It was actually the Basket II, but probably the same sizing.

Funny they do appear like that, but didnt notice until you said it, dont really notice it in the flesh though. This version is very light and thin, like sippers almost, other Cortez I've got arent so elongated, they definately have more of a snub toe on them compared to this version and are a bit more chunky, with a thicker sole.
