I'm a swede so I obviously remember that game at Wembley 1988 when Hysén performed one of the best defencive performances ever.
Then he became captain of Pool in Hansens abscence, but as soon as Souness came in he wasn't wanted anymore.
He had a hard second season though with Hansen injured. Though, I will always remember his slidetackles! He was a maestro!

Now, he's a commentator for swedish telly.

Hmm. Mixed feelings about GH. Had the feeling Kenny signed him to stop the mancs getting him. Saw his debut at Anfield and he played the percentages and kept things tight. After his first season he seemed to go downhill very quickly and had the annoying habit of flailing his arms around when heading a ball in the box. This had disaterous consequences one game against the mancs when he 'appeared' to handle the ball in the box to give them a pen.

Dam thing was he did the same thing later in the game to more howls of 'penalty!' by the manc hordes but for some reason, the ref didn't give that one! Went tits up rapidly from there IMO.
These are my own opinions. They are not meant or intended as a criticism of anyone else's opinion just because they are different but if you can't see past that, then tough shit!

Man U wanted him big-time according to the meeja. But we got him instead. Felt dead smug. At first. Then realised the Mancs may have stitched us...

If I remember rightly we were all so smug because we got Hysen, leaving the Mancs with only Pallister to go for. At the start we thought we'd been pretty clever but after that first season Hysen just lost it. Not someone I can look back on with any real sense of fondness.

Two abiding memories: scoring one of the 9 against Palace and his shambolic sending off away at Norwich (despite Robert Fleck's best efforts with the ref not to do it) for 2 yellows.

I got that Palace 9-0 on video and always remember the commentary, "Glenn Hysen with a text book header", apart from that and the silver hair nothing really sticks out.

He gave us a bit of confidence at the back when he first arrived, being able to cope with the likes of Hughes and Fashanu, but struggled in his second season with the responsibilty and without a settled partner in central defence.
Loved the club and the city as I remember and was a bit hurt by Souness' treatment of him (nothin new there then), lost confidence and eventually was 'forced out'. Great CB on his day though.

What sticks in my mind about the silver-haired stopper was my nan taking me down to Anfield in the same week he'd just signed in the summer of '89. This was in the good old days when you could still meet the players easily as they always met up at the ground before going to Melwood by coach.

He was a bloody big bastard I remember that much, and because we'd just beaten the Mancs to his signature every other kid wanted his autograph and I had to make do with Ronnie Whelan's. Nice bloke, the Irish fella.

His lad, Tobias Hysen, is meant to be a bit of a decent player. Turns out for Djurgården in the Swedish league and got linked with Juve and Rangers not too long ago.

He's doing the commentary on the CL in Sweden,as an "expert"  ::), and he always says he can't deny the fact that he has emotions for Liverpool. Think he was quite sad when he was "forced" out by Souness.

He has been linked with quite a few clubs, and he certainly is one of the best players in the swedish league. The best thing is that he has said that he's not in a rush to go abroad. Except if we came in with an offer, then he would jump at the chance! Think he could do a decent job here as a squadplayer with his exceptional speed. And he wouldn't cost that much.

He's playing on the left hand side of the midfield/attack in a 4-3-3 line up.  He scores a lot of goals for being a midfielder and has a terrifying speed.

Glenn Hysén for expert commentary... let's just say he's not the best in the business. There's this voting for the best player of the night. He chooses the players and there's always a defender. If a game finished 10-10 where all the CBs were on drugs and all were sent off, he'd still pick one of them. Probably for his determination or fighting spirit. Because that's his usual analysis. Commentator "What do they have to do to get back in the game?" Glenn Hysén "There's no will to win. They need to show more desire to win."

As for Tobias Hysén - it's possible he'll get in the Swedish World Cup squad. I think there's another Hysén son too - a goalie.

Can agree with u that he has a good eye for the defenders, but I think he's been better for the last couple of years. Can't say he's one of the best commentators either, but at least he show some emotions. Can't stand those who's just "commentating", u know what I mean. Who doesn't give a fuck about the game.

Whenever anyone mentions Liverpool he always quite clearly hints at how much he really dislikes Souness. I think he referred to him as 'that fekkin idiot' once.

I remember him missing a sitter at the Anfield Road end when he'd been pushed up front against Norwich when we chasing a goal in a drab 0-0 affair.

Other than that, not much to remember really.

Really great defender at his prime. Outstanding at the Wembley game someone mentioned before. Sole reason that Sweden managed to get a 0-0 draw against England that game. Without him we couldn´t say it was nearly 40 years since we lost against them :)
Read his book years ago. He really loves Liverpool. 2 years ago he went with the Swedish supporter club to Anfield. Great character and had time for everybody. Pics, questions, stories about "the good old days".

Still annoyed about Souness. Graeme just said "big man your out!" (or something like that according to Glenn) when he was appointed as manager.

A legend in Sweden and could have been the same in Liverpool if he had been bought earlier.

Wasn´t he captain the last time LFC won the league?
