I enjoyed it.

Cavill seems to be getting a bit of grief for his portrayal but i have to say i really liked it. I think you really felt for his Clark Kent.

Everyone already fucking knows who Superman is and where he comes from.

Which is what they did with Superman Returns and people complained that unless you'd seen Superman 1 and 2 you'd have no idea what was going on storywise.
They need to set it up for a new generation.

Its both the best and worst time to reboot Batman. On one hand, the character has never been bigger than it is now, so if you're going to do another film then no matter what it is, people will be excited, but on the other hand whoever is involved in the new films will have a monstrous legacy to live up to.

I think re-booting it so soon will be ridiculous, which is why I genuinely think whatever they do, Justice League, worlds finest etc, will actually tie in with Nolan's Batman world.

The reason Batman Begins re-boot was so good was because they left it for a few years after Batman and Robin, then completely re-did it and started from scratch with a whole new batman. It worked because A. it was so different and B. the time left since Batman and Robin.

Re-booting Batman now would be ridiculous I think. I don't think it will work at all. There has to be a reason Nolan and Goyer were brought on board for Superman? Other than Box Office?

And people keep saying 'Nolan's Batman wouldn't work in this world, with Aliens etc'. No-one complained when Iron Man went from a reality based character to fighting Aliens and God's. It worked (just) and anyway, you had a bloke with half a face running around in The Dark Knight, it wasn't completely averse to fantastical elements.

Not sure whether I liked it or loved it.

Cast very, very well I have to say. Liked the flash backs for some of the back story. It did feel very much like 'Superman Begins' and if the sequel goes the same way as TDK, then it's very exiting. I'd hold off on a Justice League movie until they've established a set of heroes, there's no rush.

Agree on that and if they were to go up against the Avengers 2 in 2015 (when JJ Abrams' Star Wars is also out) I think they would get crushed, or at very least do poorly.

Surely they have no time to set up the Justice League before 2016 or 2017?

Batman reboot, surely they have to wait 4, 5 or even 6 years minimum, even by Hollywood standards?

Depends if they got Bale back to be Batman.

I think they should forget about attempting a Justice league film. The years it would take them to introduce Green Lantern (reboot), Wonder Woman (God knows how they could do that), and Flash would just take far too long.

If they're going to do anything they should attempt a Superman-Batman film.

Completely agree. I would imagine WB are hoping for box office success with MoS which leads to a trilogy of films. At that point (7-8 years down the line) people may be ready for a rebooted Batman with Superman in a movie together.

I would love MoS to do well and then see WB, Nolan et al plead with Bale to come back and do one more movie in a Batman-Superman story.

If they're going to do anything they should attempt a Superman-Batman film.

Rumours are that they're already fast tracking Man of Steel 2, they've got concept art for Flash already, and they want to go ahead with Wonder Woman and Aqua-man films. Apparently Green lantern isn't in their short-term plans AT ALL, even for a JL film, which is saying something about their intent, really.

If done right, Aqua-man is like the most perfect Disney-for-boys film that you could possibly do. A young kid with no friends living on the edge of nowhere discovers he is the heir to an underwater kingdom, and he can communicate on a semi-intelligent level with the wildlife. That is Disney/James Cameron 101.

It helps that he's returned to being a fucking badass over the last 2 years in the comics as well. He's the only guy who says "No." to Batman on the JL, and he punched out Superman.

I don't know what their plans are with Wonder Woman, but Nicolas Winding Refn has said before that the only super-budget Hollywood film he'd like to do is Wonder Woman. So for fuck's sake just give him the movie and 100% freedom. It doesn't matter what he's gonna come up with, it'll be amazing.

EDIT: For fucks sake, aqua-man goes to Aquilani, still ;D

Thor was possibly mental to bring to the big screen, but was done in a really clever way. But Green Lantern is just absolutely mental, and no wonder it bombed (apart from being an awful movie). It's just such a high concept from start to finish, it would be really incredibly difficult to shoehorn him into any future Justice League movie.

I'm off to see it on Friday. Was really looking forward to seeing it, pre-reviews, but after reading what has been said on here, and other places, my excitement level has wavered a little.

I'm sure it will still be good, though.

Interesting stuff mate. As usual it seems execs at WB are getting ahead of themselves :)

I think they should wait and see how MoS ends up before planning anything as grand as that. I saw the article on MTV as well today saying that MoS2 could be in cinemas in 2014!!!!! Ridiculous if you ask me, its only been out 4 days. At least wait 3 weeks to see how it does!

The film nearly made its budget back BEFORE it was released:

http://uk.movies.yahoo.com/man-of-steel-almost-recoups-budget-before-it-s-even-released-100906092.html

The sequel is already is pre-production, they can tell by the first weekends grosses that it will do very well for them. I could care less about box office but this one will probably take north of $700 million worldwide, quite possible more.

Still say 2014 is hugely crowded for Warners. Bloody James Cameron has Avatar 2 out that summer as well!

First off, I agree with the 6/10 ratings. Set pieces are wonderful, Krypton was stunning, actually made me think "wow" with some of it. Other bits, which I'll go into below really disappointed me.

Forgot to say, was it just my screening or was it exceptionally loud? Especially during the overblown, drawn out action scenes.

Captain America was a bucket of shite but that didnt seem to affect Avengers. Am sure they could worm Green Lantern in to the JL somehow.

And it was widely regarded as a bad thing that no one liked. And that was in '88. In the most recent continuity, he was sent back into the Phantom Zone (when Krypto bit his arm off after a tug-of-war session ;D).

PS. Right now in the current comics, Superman and Batman have a team-up series with it's #1 coming out next wednesday (so get to your local store and buy it), and he's also currently in a power couple relationship with Wonder Woman, and DC've just announced that they will have their own team-up comic coming out in October (so buy that too and suport the industry ;) ).

Lot of people don't seem to know that Superman killed Zod in the comics.

Yeah, and it was a monumentally bad move, which everyone hated and they basically spent a year dealing with it. He went mental with it and exiled himself from Earth.

I had a real problem with how nonchalant Superman was about the death toll in this movie. If the main protagonist doesn't care who lives or dies then why should I?
