How do you feel about your Bombers going after Inglis? I personally think it would be a bad bit of business but I know a couple of Bombers supoorters and they wouldn't mind him.

http://wwos.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=8188596

I'm a bit confused - that article was about his NRL contract being registered?

I didn't realise we were after him to be honest - not sure how I feel about it, I would imagine he may be able to switch codes, I'm sure there are some athletes who would be able to do it, with NRL to AFL at least he would be used to an oval ball and getting whacked numerous times over the course of a game ;D

When I posted that link it was about Essendon looking at him.

You don't have to worry about it anymore though since the NRL allowed him to sign with Souths.

No surprises today when Ablett was announced as GC captain. Nathan Bock is vice captain and Campbell Brown is deputy vice captain.

Having Hird come back feels just like King Kenny comeback. A legend of the club, and a lot of questions as to whether he can improve a side that is obviously underperforming. Problem is, Kenny has already proved he can do it as a coach, Hirdy has not.

Looks like you listened. Good man. I think if anyone can do it, Hird can. Having Bomber next to him will be of great help as well.

Ahhhhh it's good to have footy back even if it's only NAB Cup. Heading to Subi tomorrow so hopefully won't be too hungover.

Serious stretch to call it 'footy' pepe_carra_stevie_nando ;) :wave . Non-contested, circle work, as I think I called it some time ago in this thread. Commentators referring to franchises not clubs :butt. Rules committee that has to make changes to something that wasn't ever broke. Even the Central Committee of the AFL calls it the Product not football. ;) Bring on the home and away games and a real contest may just breakout, if we are lucky.

I still call it footy but a 'perverted' version of the game. Last night watching the GC, Sydney, GWS games the constant referall to franchises made me cringe. Thank god the last touch rule is going. It is fucking ridiculous. I know that the form guide goes out of the window but Gold Coast will pose more problems this season than everyone seems to think.

Can't wait for the season proper to start. Checked out my seat for the season last weekend and it's boss. Just have to hope we get some cover from the roof when it rains. Now all I need is the club to send me my membership card and I am set.

Brisbane have sacked Fev.

Quote
BRENDAN Fevola has been sacked by the Brisbane Lions, however the club could be in for a legal battle for Fevola's manager Alastair Lynch says his company, Velocity Sports, does not accept the decision as a "legal termination".

Lynch, the general manager of Velocity Sports, said he was "surprised and disappointed the club had refused to detail in full the reasons for Fevola's dismissal".

In a meeting on Sunday between Lions coach Michael Voss and football chief Dean Warren, Fevola offered to play the entire 2011 season in the Lions reserves and accept whatever behavioral clauses the club wished to impose on him.

However, the club decided to terminate the troubled forward who has been battling depression, a gambling addiction, and alcohol abuse.

In a Brisbane Lions press release, the club said: "The grounds for termination were that Brendan had engaged in serious or wilful misconduct through persistent breaches of his obligations as a player to the club."

Lynch said Fevola was shattered by the decision because all he wanted to do was play football.

"Brendan accepts that he has let his club and his teammates down but is committed to making amends and has always felt that the first step in making things right was his commitment to an extensive rehabilitation program to combat his battle with depression," Lynch said in a media release that immediately followed the Lions' on Sunday night.

"He has stayed 51 days in a voluntary rehabilitation clinic and had reached the stage where he felt the next step was to return to football.

"He was fully prepared to return to the club under whatever conditions the club chose to impose."

Lynch said Fevola would now stay in the rehabilitation clinic while he weighed up his options.

"Our number one priority now is to ensure Brendan continues his treatment and returns to good health," Lynch said.

The Brisbane Lions terminated his contract Sunday night after the board met that afternoon.

The Lions said they had taken into account "the views of the club’s administration and football departments, as well as the need to protect and uphold the culture and reputation of the club".

"The club has therefore lost confidence in his ability to meet his obligations as a player due to these persistent breaches. The timing of this decision was based on medical advice," the press release said.

The club said Fevola was informed of the decision Sunday evening and it would provide financial support to him, "to enable him to continue to receive the necessary assistance with his financial situation and prepare him for his future life".

The Brisbane Lions will hold a formal media conference on Monday afternoon.

The mighty Bombers march on into the semi finals of the NAB cup... Seriously WTF is up
With the format of the fist stages, 3 x 1/2 games?!!?!?

Just when it looked like the AFL couldn't come up with any more zany rules (a 17 team league? I mean come on...) they manage to!!

Good. I'm surprised they didn't try to get all 3 teams in the group on the pitch at the same time somehow.... ;D

Aye looking forward to the actual season proper. Sick of this off-field crap, just tiresome.
You have posted literally nothing of substance to flame about.  Your "points", and I dread to call them that, were superficial and completely arbitrary.  Nothing you said could be argued against because nothing you said elaborated a position of any kind.

We have more to look forward to tonight with an 'exclusive interview' with Fev on the footy show. There's half an hour of talking about crap that has already been talked about to death.

Good old biff, cheers for the extended version, i hadn't seen that before. One thing I didn't realise is that during the whole series of flare-ups after Williams kicked their goal at the start of the video, they didn't score and we ended up with 4 goals!!

Chance Bateman is a fucking little shit though, would be great to see him get cleaned up by someone.

Firstly, unlucky to the Bombers in the NAB cup - I landed in Melbourne on Friday night just in time to catch up with the game on delay in the 3rd quarter, about 5 goals down and dragged themselves back into it against the current champions (shiver). Always easy to get carried away with good performances in the pre-season (actually I wouldn't know, in the few years I've followed footy we've generally been shit in the pre-season games!!). Anyway, our opening matches will be a good test, the Doggies, Swans in Sydney, Saints and then Carlton should make sure that no-one gets carried away - and if we do get 2 or 3 wins out of those games then it should give the squad a good amount of confidence.

I'm just raring to go to the footy in person, off to Carlton-Richmond on Thursday night (my other half's family are all Blues) and then more importantly the Bombers on Sunday arvo!! BRING IT ON!!

Sounds like us last season. We had hard as fuck games first up and won 4 out of 5 or something like that. If you guys can do that, I can see ya having a great season.

I would have us longer odds than that. We have too many injuries to key players at the moment.

Also, I was thinking of getting a footy tipping comp going on here if anyone is up for it.

Made a RAWK league on http://tipping.afl.com.au if anyone wants to join up!

Just to to 'join private league' and the passcode thingy is VVY62YUJ4Q

It's the most popular AFL tipping site on the net so thought I'd take the liberty of starting one up. If people prefer footytips.com.au or whatever else then that's fair enough.

Good stuff lads.

Went for a few upsets myself this round, although it's such a ridiculously tight opening round I don't know if they could be deemed upsets.

Was tempted to go heart over head and tip my lads to get up over the 'Pies but common sense prevailed in the end.
