Sounds good.
What's a Double Heads Up Shootout though :)

God I love it when I win hands with 4-2 offsuit.

I didn't know what it was when I entered it. It is 2 tables of 2 playing heads up and then the winners on each table play for the money and I won !!

A question.

I was playing medium stakes cash earlier when someone was chatting analysis and as part of that said 'well you dont have any notes on me...'

Was this bullshit or is there software that can tell you if someone has notes on you - or even what it might say?

As far as I know there isn't any software, the notes are generally stored on each users computer so it's pretty unlikely.  He possible just knew that he had never played against the person before?

The chat was with me. He was playing very aggressive so I made a river call that I wouldn't normally make to win. He expressed surprise - not trash talking (which would make me think it was bullshit automatically), just going through it and asking why I called, I said I thought he was bluffing. As part of that he just said that I didn't have notes on him.

I would reckon it was just a figure of speech albeit an ambiguous one, suggesting you don't have a read on him, you made a lucky call. The proper poker sites use Thwarte 128-bit encoding, making it virtually impossible to crack/hack (unles you happen to be starring in a Dan Brown Book), so I would very much doubt that he could see that you didn't have notes on him.

I reckon you might be reading too much into it, or he's trying to sound clever. Could it just be he has a clearly defined style, and if you had notes, you wouldn't have made that play.

I keep toying with keeping notes, but I play so rarely I doubt I meet the same person twice, also at the low level stakes I enjoy , I imagine my opponents change style fairly frequently too.

You'd be surprised,  I play lots of small - mid stakes tourneys and regularly come up agains the same names again and again.  I was even on the same table as a guy in 3 tourneys (all started with 1000+ players) at the same time there last week

He was the raiser pre flop from utg, so when the 3rd 9 pops he is trying to rep a good pair, the vast majority of the time he's going to force the other guy to fold, at this level the cards you actually hold almost become irrelevant, position, image, bet size etc are way more important than they are at lower stakes.

Don't be tempted into trying the free games at places like ladbrokes, you will learn some terrible habits.

What do you know already about the game?

In all honesty, my knowledge compared to all you lot is next to nothing. I'm basically trying to learn the hands etc, is that the best place to start (might be best knowing what exactly i'm trying to do for starters).

That's a decent start.

Are you comfortable with how the betting patterns work. ie. that you are dealt two cards, there's a round of betting, then three cards come down on the flop, more betting, the turn, more betting, the river and then a final round of betting!

Yeah i have a rough idea like. I think my next step that i really need to do is learn what hands are what and which ones are the best. Some tool on Facebook was saying that i was really good at it...somehow?

:D

I think it would help me actually playing a proper game of it soon. Alot of my birds family play it, but only on rare occasions. Its one of those games that i have always wanted to learn, but never actually got round to it. I reckon i could be a half-decent player one day.

I think that this will become a late New-Years Resolution, to learn how to play Poker.

Along with Quitting smoking and getting alot fitter.

You reckon its the easiest of the 3 to do? ;)

play low stake games to get the hang of things - satellites on fulltilt are a decent place to learn and if you do well you can get into one of the bigger tourneys which normally have a $25 entry fee for $2 and then you'll learn a lot and possibly win some good cash

oh, and take notes and look at the hand histories to see help you with your notes

He means, if you are up against a poor player, then you won't be able to bluff them.
What you can do though, is just play solid cards, don't bother with any fancy tricks and let them just hand over their money.

hands are
pair
two pair
three of a kind
straight (5 cards in numerical sequence eg 3,4,5,6,7  Ace can be counted as high and low, but has to be at the end of a straight if included).
flush (5 cards from the same suit).
full house

I can't remember the rest beyond that, and to be honest there's not much point worrying about it at this stage. If you aren't winning with a full house and playing like you're winning, you are just very unlucky and should consider not playing!

Just a small tip (and I know it sounds stupid but... )

Look at the board.... see what can beat you. If you have one pair and there is a possible flush and straight on the board your one pair is probably not the best hand.

Don't over play your hand! If you have 10's and the board is AK9 your pocket 10's aren't that strong.

Think about your hand and what can beat you , way that up.

Think about your hand and what can beat you , way that up.
just because you dont havce the best hand possible, doesnt mean yer dont have the best hand. weigh yer opponents up, the cards are secondary at a good level.

Yeah I know was kinda giving the guy who hasn't played alot advice. Weighing up your opponent and seeing tells and bluffing comes a bit later when he's had some experience actually playing

seeing as there's some 'i cant fucking believe that nonce beat me' posts on here, here's mine:

few weeks ago i was down to the final table on one of the big tourneys on fulltilt (around 4,000 people entered) and i was in the last 8, chip leader had around 200k and i had 80k, so i was in a good position (winner got around $8k, 2nd was just under 6k and 8th was paying just over $800) and had 2 aces so went all-in pre flop (this is one of the short stack tourneys where people go all in preflop regularly) and i guy with 110k chips called me and the others folded. he sees my 2 aces and i see his 10/7 - happy days i'm thinking. the flop comes - 777. arsehole.
