Bradgate Park in Leicester - http://www.bradgatepark.org/index.php?ID=1

Stumbled across it by accident earlier this year. Not lived in Leicester for that long, on a day off from work I was on the way back from shopping but decided to just carry on driving and see what was around the area. We can see "Old Johns Tower" (see above website) from where I live so decided to try and get there and just happened to drive past Bradgate Park - decided to go in for a look, loved it, so been a few times since.

All those photos were taken there - you can actually get fairly close up to the deer. The peacock was also just roaming wild, tried to take a chocolate bar out of my daughters hand :)
Yeah I know, Deer Parks are good.  There is one not too far from me in County Durham and they come up and eat out of your hand.

Can I ask what Camera / equipment you use Damian.

For most of those above I used my Fujifilm Finepix S1730 because I couldn't find the card to my SLR (still haven't found it - I do remember putting it somewhere and thinking "I'll have to remember I put it there" :) ). I can't afford any decent lenses for the SLR at the moment - just got the standard one so not much good for wildlife shots that need a bit of zoom, which was the reason I bought the Fuji one.

Thanks. That one I actually took with my mobile (Galaxy S2) - not got a bad camera on it :)

Eh?!
Go up the page mate, my last post.  Well, after I posted that about 30 seconds later someone quoted part of my message and then left a picture and typed out a message which offended me.   So, I clicked on the Report to Mod button and typed out a message saying I was getting fed up and sick of this bullshit and within a minute Alan had removed his post and left him a message saying "Grow the fuck up please".  And that's it, nothing else to see here, move along please      :)

Have you thought of using older lenses?

I shoot with a Sony Alpha, but I picked up a cheap M42 adaptor ring on ebay for a couple of quid and got some very nice lenses for next to nothing. They're manual focus/manual aperture, but the image quality can be stunning.

I've been surprised by the quality myself. Its one of the reasons I like the phone so much, I don't need to carry my camera everywhere.

Someone did mention it to me recently, at some point I will be picking up an adapter to get some lenses.

The SLR I've got is an Olympus E400 - the lenses seem to be more expensive than for most other cameras. However I believe I can also get an adapter that will allow me to use other makes of DSLR lenses, (without losing auto focus), so its something else I'm looking at.

I actually tried to sell the camera last year due to the price of the lenses, and someone did buy it on ebay for around £180. However, after a week of owning it they claimed they'd received it broken (despite the fact that they'd previously left feedback saying "received safe and sound"), yet admitted they'd stuck a sharp object in the card slot. Despite all the evidence ebay found in their favour and gave them a refund, they returned the camera to me (with the xd card slot broken), I complained loudly to ebay and they paid me back, so I ended up with the camera and the money :)  Fortunately it also takes a compact flash card so I can still use it (just need to remember where the safe place was that I stored the card).

You probably can. The main advantage of M42 lenses is that they are cheap and the adapter is glassless, so there's no loss of image quality. There is the manual focus issue, but it's much easier to focus a lens that's designed to be manually focussed, can actually be quicker than AF in some situations.

Obviously, it's worth pricing up potential lenses before buying the adapter, as well...

Nothing to do with my ability or lack of more to the point, but just the sheer stunning beauty of Iceland. Took over 800 pics (it was a work trip, honest) but here is a sample.

Where in Iceland mate?

It's my hometown Varmahlíð, population of 130. It's in the northern part of Iceland. I don't live there now but I grew up there and my parents still live there.

It was a wonderful privilege to grow up there.

Bought myself a new camera at the weekend, so been playing at bit :)  Got a Fujifilm HS30 EXR, 30x Optical Zoom, 60x digital.

The photos of the moon were actually taken with the digital "intelligent" zoom, which is surprisingly good quality considering what digital zooms are generally like.

Wonderful shots. I bought a FujiFilm 20x optical zoom compact earlier this year and do not have a word to say against them.

And to be honest that HS30EXR the bridge camera I will get if I'll get one in the future.

"Digital zoom" used to just mean the camera took the same picture, but cropped it down, so you'd get a lower quality image.

The technology now sometimes allows them to do something a bit more sophisticated than that, and the high MP count of modern cameras means even a 50% crop is still a good quality picture for most purposes.

"60x digital" is still misleading though, as (far as I know) it's basically your 30x optical zoom cropped to half size then having some clever processing tricks done on it.

Great pics!

Thanks both.

My only concern is that I bought it mainly for the Air Show at Waddington this weekend to get some good close ups. However reading a couple of reviews suggests I might not get the pics I'd hoped for, one saying not too expect much if wanting to shoot fast subjects such as racing cars as it won't focus. Getting action shots of the typhoon could be interesting in that case.

Great photos, where is that?

Blow are some of my photos from the Waddington Airshow yesterday (I've put them in a spoiler as there are a lot and I don't want to hog the page :)). Suffering now though - met office predicted it being rain and overcast - turned out sunny for much of the time and I forgot the sun cream - my arms, face and neck now look like out home kit, and i've had wet towels wrapped around my arms all day today (still have now).
