In the Robbie interview (with Parry and Rafa), Rafa answers question about Victor and spoke about a prospective deal with Deportivo which involved Mark Gonzales moving in the opposite direction (on loan?). but there were difficulties with Deportivo and we decided to not to proceed with Victor, allowing Gonzales to make a move to Sociedad.

At footy practice tonight a few of the lads were talking about a Defoe/Cisse swap, it was then followed up by another lad who was told Defoe arrived in Liverpool via the airport over the weekend. It came from the same source as Fowlers rumours, also The SWP deal could happen.

I guess we will see tomorow but its pretty feasible, Defoe cant get a game for Spurs and it would be a great chance for him to build his England credentials.

Could also be in town for the bluenoses too. Although why would you sign for them if we were in the frame?

I think we need to sign someone now we've lost out on Victor. For me, the team are starting to show signs of fatigue and as many new faces as possible now would do me.

Dont believe any of that. If Rafa is planning to use Cisse on the RW, as he suggested in his comments today, then why would he swap him for a striker? Maureen said that nobody else will be leaving Chelsea so that should put the SWP to bed. Wishful thinking but I think weve made our final signing.

Could well be, but they've been pretty on the nail before. They predicted Gerrard to Chelsea which was correct until he changed his mind and Owen to Newcastle.

I guess we will know tomorrow.

Don't want to rush him. Although he does look VERY impressive.

Got to admit, although I usually hate rumours along these lines, that I heard the same.

Aye but that wont stop him leaving and City need the cash. All indications are it may be a switch to United for about 6 million.

I think this confirms it

http://home.skysports.com/list.asp?hlid=358695&CPID=23&clid=&lid=2&title=Liverpool+end+Victor+interest

Liverpool have ended their interest in signing Victor from Deportivo La Coruna after failing to reach an agreement with the Spanish club

With the transfer window closing on Tuesday, there was not enough time for talks to continue and so the move is now dead.

Reports in Spain suggest that Depor refused to budge in the negotiations and Reds boss Rafa Benitez pulled the plug on the deal that was expected to go through this week.

Victor's contract at Riazor expires in the summer and the player is hopeful that the deal can be resurrected then.

Spanish news agency EFE reported that Depor were keen to include Liverpool winger Mark Gonzalez as part of any deal, but when the Premiership side refused the discussions were brought to a halt.

Gonzalez has since joined Real Sociedad on loan for the rest of the season, while Victor is preparing to earn his place back in the Depor side in order to earn a move at the end of the current campaign.

Believe that Anderson had a cracking game tonight and has been playing well for the ressies, wouldnt harm letting him train with the first team and try and get into the squad if weve got no one else.

No.  It will remain vacant forever more and we will play with 10 men (leaving the right empty, of course) in an ongoing mark of respect to those devastating times when we did not have a recognised RW.

European Cup, 3rd in the league (with games in hand on 2nd), last sixteen of FA cup.  Not bad going for not having a regular, recognised RW is it?

We will survive another 6 months.

What's happened to the money?  We bid £8m for Simao, a few million on various centre halfs and £9m for Owen in the summer ... we've made money from going through in the Champion's League, and playing in the World Club Championship ... how come we're skint after spending £5.8m, some of which is to be paid in istallments?

There will be alot of options in right wing in the summer. There is the possibility of victor on a free, Betis might get relegated with joaquin coming our way, SWP will be pissed of after not making it to the WC, Brimingham might get relegated so pennant might want to leave,Simao might ask to leave etc.....

Rafa will sure hope some teams might get relegated. Or at least some stars might want to leave.

Who says we're skint?

We do need investment though...slight understatement. For two transfer windows we have failed to bring in a right sided midfielder to allow Gerrard to move into his favoured central position where he's at his most effective. This failure is sure to piss him off as he stated before the window opened that he was really excited and looking forward to the new right sided player coming in...he's sacrificed himself by filling out on the right and doing what is best for the team, but it would be even better for the team with him bursting through the centre and having a natural right winger out wide to maintain the balance of the team.

Reading reports on Anderson, however, it sounds like he's at least a year away.  While he has the tricks and the pace, he'll need to bulk up a bit as he's a bit underweight.

I've always thought that Sinama could do a decent job on the right wing -- what do you think?

All this f*cking panic so we can have Gerrard back in the centre! It completely ignores the fact that he's playing his best football in a long time (as he admitted himself) and that this also coincided with a record breaking run for the club. I'm sorry but I do not see the urgency here. Lets wait till the summer and see whats available then.

Don't agree on Anderson.  The only thing against him in my opinion is the lack of experience.  Saw the reserves highlights against Wolves and he was rampant.  Didn'tlook a pushover either.

But there's a big difference today between reserves and first team level. This is why the reserves are now composed of mainly 18-19 year olds as opposed to a truly second string.

Leave Anderson and if he makes the step up, he makes the step up. No need for him to be touted from now.

Yep but he's played like crap the past three or four games, or at least distinctly average, crap by his high standards. He isn't getting involved in the play at all, and he has been playing on the right. We won't be keeping up the same form unless he snaps out of it.
