whatever happened to.......
« on: January 27, 2006, 09:03:31 AM »
Talking in the pub last night about past LFC defenders - what ever happened to Glen Hussein - the moustachioed perm-head who "bossed"(!!) our defence? Another one was the Torben "solid as Jelly" Pieknik. And also Phil "Ke" Babb - after Sunderland what happened to him?

Looking back we've had absolute shi*e defenders - especially the period when Souness was at the helm - Julian Dicks :o  John Scales :o,  (was it Evans who signed him?) Steve Harkness.. Can you think of any more?

I remember a line in the TTWAR fanzine "Then came the news we were going to sign Dicks. Haven't we got enough of them at this club already?". :D

Initially he went to St Etienne, and was as equally poor there as he was at Liverpool.

Steve Harkness was arguably our best defender in season 1995/96 until John Salako broke his leg with a horrendous tackle at Coventry.

Thanks for the links BIGdavlad!  Great to see they all went on to bigger and better things!!!!!!!!!! Just thought of another one - Mark Wright - always injured - never lived up to the expectation... Rob Jones another one blighted by injury who never quite made it... And to be honest except for Finan, Hyypia, Cara we're not that much better off now... Daniel Ager has huge potential obviously so cross fingers that he'll come good....

Glen Hussein  ;D

he's a sports commentator on Swedish TV,  on Champions League games.
Was funny listening to him commentating Liverpool games last season...went mental "a couple of times" when they scored.  :D
I mean seriously how the fuck does he do it? How is he so fucking brilliant that his brilliance makes everyone play better?

"...never quite made it"...???

He most certainly did.  Best right back in the land - great player.  He made it alright - but unfortunately "it" just didn't last very long due to the injury.

Rob Jones played over 200 games for the Reds, and a few caps for England. Superb player, loved him to bits. Big shame he had to retire early.
Who is this man, where is he from?
Defenders ask "Where has he gone?"
He fools them all, there is no doubt

And like the Kop, you'll hear me shout

Rob Jones was a very good defender whose career was cut short by injury. We've had some very poor defenders since Rob finished, as per some of the names quoted in this thread.

I always thought Mark Wright was unlucky, a very talented defender. Another one of Souness' signings that 'should' have been superb.

Don't agree that we're not that much better off now! Since Houllier came to the club our defence has been one of our major strengths and we've had some superb players - Hypia, Henchoz, Carra and Babbel were unbelievable from 2000 to 2002 and alonbg with Chelsea we've got the best defence in the land at the moment.
If you're visiting Crete this year, Greece or any of the Greek islands please take a minute to visit this website www.findstevencook.co.uk and learn about a good Red who needs your help. Thank you

Glenn Hysén is a football commentator now, last season he commented the Pool games in CL and went "Phil Thompson Nuts" in the final.

His son Tobias (forward) plays for Swedish team Djurgarden and has played in the national team a couple of times. This summer he said he´d never leave Djurgarden for another team unless it was Liverpool.

Glenn really hates Souness....

For those who actually watched them Kvarme was, contrary to urban myth, a very good player in his early days at Anfield. Playing at RB, solid & being renowned for his pace and tackling. Moved to a 3 CB role which didnt suit, being a tad on the small side and not the best in the air. Made 2 high profile errors against the Bitters and Manure and lost his way.

Hysen didnt have a perm or tache whilst at LFC iirc - again decent player but having no pace sealed his fate :-\

iirc they came along just after Hansen and Lawrenson.

I seem to remember Heggem scoring an absolute belter at Boro a few years back.
