any duck or beaver fans on here?
I'm new to this oregon civil war thing but looking forward to the game.
Two questions - what is the difference between the two teams and the two universities is it david and goliath or more even?
Oregon is backed by alum and Nike founder Phil Knight, who donates generously. Their facilities are some of the best in the nation and they change uniforms all the time. Their offense is orgasmic to watch when it's going well (I'm a Duck fan, so maybe a bit biased...). The stadium is known as one of the loudest in college football. Oregon is located in Eugene, a total hippy town.
Oregon State is a more agricultural school located in Corvallis, which I can smell all the way through the intertubz. Seriously, it stinks. While they have their own boosters, they don't have a Phil Knight, and as such, their budget is probably average compared to the rest of the conference. Their team could be described as perennial overachievers. The coach, Mike Riley, does a great job of getting the most out of supposedly less talented recruits, I have a lot of respect for his work.
In terms of David vs Goliath: USC are Goliath, no doubt about that. Afterwards, Oregon is more of a Goliath than Oregon State, purely due to the Phil Knight factor. Still, the two teams are usually pretty even, this year included. I'd say the Ducks are the favorite because they're playing at home, otherwise it'd be a tossup. If you're the betting sort, it might not be a bad idea to bet on the Beavers to cover the spread.
More info than you probably wanted, but I'm pumped for the game, it will be the biggest Civil War ever.
