I think we've been very lucky with the draw. Hardly a position to complain IMO

Whose arguing with the draw?  I'm talking about scheduling times.  The draw has been more than fair.

Brilliant as always, PoP and Rory.

That graphic on Rory's analysis which shows our top two passing pairs as Henderson -> Johnson and Johnson -> Henderson is very telling. It shows how important those two have been for the fluidity and accuracy of our buildup and general passing. It also shows that there needs to be an equilibrium on the left side with Coutinho and either of Enrique / Cissokho giving us the same kind of numbers. Then we will become really penetrative.

Yet again, I can't read this one. International breaks are a pain, but martinez is in the news complaining about it (getting his excuses in early?)
A draw is the likely result with a win for us just following. Id be delighted with either to be honest. A loss is not acceptable.
If enrique is fit He plays. Highly underrated, He will be able to deal with miralas. We need toure to deal with lukaku. Barry will need watching, He can supply as well as intercept. Other than that, we can be lethal and if martinez looks to shut up shop I think we'll punish them if we have energy in midfield.
Great preview PoP (& rory).
Game on!

Good one PoP... As you mentioned, with both our strikers playing 90 minutes of international football, their fitness would be of significance for our game.. Hope both had a good days rest and are full of energy...

Surprised you have Barkley starting for everton, he hasn't started their recent matches and looked out of his depth in the england games. He gives them much greater attacking threat but also gives opportunities to the opposition for counters when he loses the ball. I think Martinez is going to start quite defensive, as they did against spurs and then try to take advantage of tiredness or us pushing for the win by bringing Deulofeu and Barkley on later.

The main question is how willing we are to push forward, how much Lucas steps up to try to win the ball in their half and how far forward Johnson's starting position is. The previous derby was exceptionally cagey, and not just because of Moyes - we rarely saw anyone other than Sturridge, Coutinho and Henderson in attacking positions and our fullbacks hardly pushed forward at all, and this was at anfield.

Another reference point might be Wigan v Liverpool from last season. We won 4-0 with three goals from fast transitions and one deflected free kick, and had less possession than they did. We regularly dropped into a defensive position in our own half and let them play in front of us, (for the most part, although they had 2 or 3 excellent chances and the scoreline flattered us).

All in all, we might well see another slow burner, with both sides unwilling to commit players forward, at least for the first 60 minutes or so.

Our team vs Everton away last season: Jones, Enrique, Agger, Skrtel, Wisdom, Sahin, Gerrard, Allen, Sterling, Suarez, Suso.

Compare that to what we have available now.

The key is last season mate... It's not like Everton have stood still either...

We have improved, but so have the bitters...

While I feel we will have too much for them, this will be a v tough game...

Asked the wife to review the Tea Leafs, she had a quick glance and they showed a favourable result for the Reds.

Everton 1 - 2 Liverpool

She said the goals will come from players who don't regularly score goals.

I'm not usually a fan of using CB's at FB (see Southampton) but I'd feel a like more comfortable away from home with Sakho at LB than Cissokho, it's a real shame Kelly's recovery has been so slow because this would have been perfect from GJ to swap over to LB,

apart from that issue I see the exact same team that battered Fulham and I fully expect a win

Is Kelly ready to play? Would like to see him at RB and Johnson at LB as I fear Cissokho will get destroyed. It might need to be Henderson on the left to provide the cover against Coleman, as Coutinho isn't that player.

Terrific stuff PoP.

It'll be interesting to see if Rodgers drops Agger. A mighty statement if he does. Being out through injury is one thing. Being dropped after keeping a clean sheet is another - especially for a vice-captain. We'll see.

I think Lucas will be as important in neutralising Lukaku as the centre backs. Lukaku is adept at dropping into the midfield and turning on the ball. Lucas will need to be at his very best to keep hitting him.

You're right about Wisdom's horror show last season. On Saturday we'll see what Cissokho is really about. Coutinho had no real defending to do against Fulham. If he plays v Everton he'll have to play a very different game if Miralles is to be stopped.

Their greatest threat, though, is on the other. Baines is an excellent player. But Pienaar is too. For my money the best Everton player of the last 5 or 6 years. Thank god Glen Johnson is back and firing.

Looking forwards to watching this, should be a cracker. (Hopefully).
Not sure what system BR will go with to be honest, it wouldn't surprise me though, if he decided to pressurise EFC high up the pitch. Whilst they may try to play a passing game from the back, they are also vulnerable to be caught in the act.

Considering; Arsenal Vs Southampton, City vs Spurs and United are away at Cardiff, it could be a huge win as those fixtures are not a guaranteed 3-0 stroll in the park.

Mirallas isn't supposed to be in great form, in spite of his decent assist rate, it's what I've heard. Lack of work-rate I think was the main issue.

Pretty fucking good really PoPs. For me - sidelining the 0-2 result for a sec, this is about two men. One that got on a plane to the States and didn't get the job and one that didn't get on the plane and got the job. Rodgers played the big yank tycoons at their hardball game and he won. I believe Rodgers wanted the job, i have to believe he did. He gambled but that gamble payed off and he now has total control of this club all because he had bigger balls. The little likeable Martinez is bitter just like his new surroundings and he wants revenge and to prove we chose wrong. But he will be reminded for a second time, that wanting something too much can lead to failure. 0-2 Liverpool

If Suarez and Sturridge both start, I hope one of them is asked to put in more defensive work than they have been lately, particularly on picking up Barry. He passes the ball more than anyone else in their side, and the 4-4-2 doesn't make it possible for any of the others to safely close him down. It could be tough though, as neither of them is likely to be fully fit, which could argue for starting Moses or Allen and bringing on the other striker later on. Suarez and Sturridge are both good enough to carry even if they can't give full effort, but I'm not sure we can afford to carry them both.

Enrique out for 2 months,I'm not a great fan of playing players out of position but from what I have seen of Sissoko he is a liability so would like to see Agger at LB with Sakho coming into the centre.
