Another one of Exchange Street station.  Finding it ironic that they now want to increase the number of platforms at Lime Street, presumably because it's close to maximum capacity...

I don't always visit Lobster Pot.  But when I do. I sit.

Nice pic, doesn't look too busy, am guessing somewhere between 1923 and before the war

Nah, it's just after rush hour. ;)

Slightly less flippant but people would have been more heavily reliant on public transport back then because car ownership wouldn't be realistic for most people.  I'd expect a lot more commuters.

They look like they're still laying flags on that triangular island in the middle, and also the amount of building materials and scaffold around the place, you'd have to say it's 1934.

The main entrance in Old Haymarket was opened in 1934, presumably the dock entrance was opened at the same time, even if it was only days or weeks later, if not the same day, as the main ceremony etc.

Just watched that, thanks.

I started work in 1961 in James street and worked in town till 1963 (the Strand and Hanover street as well), so I'm sitting here wondering how come I didn't go down to see this.
I though maybe it was a Saturday afternoon, cos we only worked till dinner time on Saturdays.
So I googled it and it turns out the fire was on Wednesday 22nd June but in 1960.

strange to see how the angle of the stadium appears to have changed between the images.  Looks like they didn't need to demolish the house mind.  ;)

Obvs the Kemyln. My Dad played football on that road, and they all used to go his mates on the corner to watch Liverpool from his window.

Pretty much.  It's Hood Street I think - just at extreme right you can see the Royal Court so it's where the buses drop their passengers off now.

Pertinent for our modern age:

http://www.liverpoolpicturebook.com/2013/12/transport-strke-1911.html

“You need not attach great importance to the rioting in Liverpool last night. It took place in an area where disorder is a chronic feature”.
(Winston Churchill).

When Churchill made this statement to Parliament, Liverpool was under martial law: a gunboat was moored on the Mersey, dockers, seafarers, and transport workers were on general strike...

So there I was last week, going through a box in the loft and came across a whole load of photo's I'd taken years ago.

None of this modern malarky. Good old fashioned seluloid negatives and photo paper, processed by Fast Film, and Max Spielman etc.

I have about three dozen taken of the old standing Spion Kop, taken in 1987.

I cobbled a load of photo's together for a photo mosaic of the outside of the kop, for you fine individuals to enjoy.

Are those pics with the queue from1987?

Good piece of film, I have people over the years make reference to Henderson's, must have been horrendous for those inside.

Exchange closed in April 1977, there's no St. Michaels either which was closed between '72 and '78 so I'd guess between 1972 and 1977.  With it mentioning the Loop Line it seems about right as that's when they were developing it.

It's clearly pre loop-line, as the major above ground stations of Exchange Street and Central didn't finally close till around 77-78 when the loop line came online.  But that's all I can glean from the map.

I've just sent the first half scrolling through one of his collections-some great pictures in there. There was a lot of buildings and places I've forgotten about.
