Last match, Ireland vs England could be a cracker if both teams are unbeaten.  I'd have those two are the favourites for the competition at the starting point, despite Englands injury list.

Home advantage for Ireland in that game might be the difference this year.

Looking forward to England v France game. I suspect the French will try and make it a slog in the forward exchanges

After the last month or two of football I can't wait for this.

Disappointed Schmidt has gone with Gilroy and Bowe over O'Loughlin and Byrne. To be fair he hasn't gone wrong picking the established before because they know the systems but I'm still a bit disappointed.

Pretty funny though Will Greenwood saying Byrne had a chance for the Lions a few weeks back.

On a positive note fair play to Conway getting in. Never looked up to the Pro 12 for Leinster nevermind international but has come on leaps an bounds since moving to Munster.

Oh, lest we forget the part time rugby aficionados on here proclaiming Ireland were done for when a few of the older heads retired like Drico & POC. We are probably stronger now than ever as far as depth goes.

In saying that the loss of a few players to a small country like us could be disastrous. Most important in order would be Furlong, Sexton & Murray.

All the knocks to the head or does he have other issues? Hope he's fit for the Lions tour, we'll need an experienced 10 for those tough midweek games.

Anthony Watson out for up to a month but expected to play some part in the Six Nations.

I see in future they are proposing playing the tournament over five weeks rather than seven.

Anthony Watson out for up to a month but expected to play some part in the Six Nations.

I see in future they are proposing playing the tournament over five weeks rather than seven.

Relegation seems to have been ruled out in the short/medium term http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/38794222

Six Nations chief executive John Feehan says relegation from the tournament will not be introduced in the short to medium term.

Georgia and Romania have been pushing to be included in the top tier of European rugby.

Six Nations boss Feehan is keen to keep the status quo and dismissed relegation talk.

"In the short to medium term there is not any genuine likelihood of that happening," said Feehan.

Italy were added to the old Five Nations tournament in 2000 and have propped up the table 11 times in the 17 tournaments since.

But Feehan has dismissed any immediate prospect of relegating the Italians who open their campaign against Wales next Sunday in Rome.

"Some comments are very unfair about Italy," Feehan told BBC Radio Wales.

"We think they have been a good addition to the Championship since they have entered.

"They have improved dramatically but other teams have improved dramatically - it's a relative thing.

"It's not that long ago they beat South Africa in the autumn series so they are capable of beating anyone on their day and worthy participants.

"We are very happy with how the Italians are approaching things.

"There is a long way to go in terms of being competitive to win the title. But on any given day they can beat any of the sides and they have done that, apart from England."

The Six Nations have also employed bonus points for the first time although a side who wins the Grand Slam are guaranteed to win the tournament.

"It is something we have considered for many years but resisted to date," said Feehan.

"If you look at the Six Nations, it is inherently unfair because some teams have three home games and other teams have two home matches in any given year and there is an imbalance.

"That word balance is key and we are looking to see whether the benefits we get on encouraging more tries to be scored is better than any direct imbalance.

"We decided we had to give it a try to see if it works.

"If you look at the the championship two years ago, we ended up with 27 tries on the last day.

"Teams can score tries when they wish to and need to.

"That's what we are trying to encourage."

I think the truer thing to say these days is that Sth Africa can lose to anyone on their day.

And Johnny Sex is ruled out of the Scotland game.   Peter O'Mahony is out too.  Back row we've loads of options. No. 10: less so, but Paddy Jackson did start all the Boks tests last summer.

Missing Sexton is a disaster; but O'Mahoney worse.
Paddy Jackson can come in there but who is ready to step in or does Schmidt have to shuffle the pack.

Just beat Scotland and I will be ok.

How is missing O'Mahony worse when he wouldn't start?  He'd always go for Stander at 6 and Heaslip at 8, an open at 7 (SOB or vd Flier) with POM coming off the bench at best.

I was sure that O'Mahoney was set to start due to a few injuries already.
But if that's not he case - then your point is fair.

considering the raft of injuries that still looks pretty solid. I don't think any of the 2nd row or back row are first choice (Itoje would be as a 2nd row). A little surprised to see Daly ahead of Nowell on the wing

Considering all the bleating about injuries, you'd swear that Eddie Jones was about to pick anyone vaguely aware that rugby is played with an oval ball in the pack.

I can see why they're rightly considered favourites. Not sure if they get the Slam, but anything less than the title will be considered a big disappointment.

You can't deny England don't have a load of injuries.

The depth is strong though.

Not sure anyone will get the slam this year.  I fancy Ireland to win it, sneaking it in the last match vs England at home.

The injuries for England have made it pretty open, which will make it interesting.
