No surprise we came out as the away team first. Every single round. Is this the first time that's happened in every round?

But arguably, the one round where you want to be the away team first is the Semi Final.

Exactly. Try and get at least a score drawer at Eastlands then smash them at Anfield

Best draw we possibly could have hoped for. MC will have to spread their squad across two games in the middle of 4 competitions straight after the busy Xmas period with the pressure of (probably) staying at the top.

Manager's first full season and a big semi-final against the runaway league leaders with the second leg at Anfield. Sounds a bit like '05. Can't wait.
Absolutely crucial, if we blow this one we're done as a top team, this is an unbelievable chance to return to our perch, we must be patient.

If we are to win the FA cup we may have to go through 2/3 big teams just like we will have to do for the LC.

1 Whole year of European nights stuffed into one game at Anfield. The King at the helm, a glorious weekday night.... being deadly serious City will have never ever in their history experienced an atmosphere like it. Could seriously scare the shit out of them.

I am glad we got City now.  I fancy our chances against them over a two legged semi better than a 90/120 minute slog at Wembley.  That's not to say I'm worried about them.  Just that we have more time to put things right if there are problems - injuries, suspensions, cards etc.  Also dodgy decisions will have a better chance of evening themselves up over two legs.

We were always going to get City, regardless of whether United won or lost, 'cause the powers that be fancied an all-manc final and it dovetailed rather nicely with United's traditionally easy draw.  It's not our fault ORN screwed it up but it wouldn't have made a difference to us in any case.

Get the City-Chelsea out of the way now and we've got an excellent chance of landing our hands on that trophy.  If somebody offered me the League Cup and fourth spot at the start of the season I would've snapped their hand off, so as far as I can see it's all going according to plan.  :)

Definitely better over two legs than in the final.  They may well rest players and have their mind elsewhere so we have a good chance.  On paper they are still favourites though, which suits me fine.

Initially I had hoped that if we were going to face them, no offence to Cardiff or Palace, that it would be a one off game, but thinking of Chelsea is 04-05 has made me all nostalgic for a good old fashioned debunking.

Added to that, having the league game in such close proximity could work out well for us as often those kinds of games have the sting taken out of them somewhat with a bigger cup tie on the horizon - I'm thinking Arsenal in between our CL quarter final a few years ago when we drew 1-1 at Emirates.

Am I right that there isn't an away goals rule in the event of a two-leg tie?  I seem to recall that from the semi-final against Sheffield United (I think it was?) a few years back.  Or has it changed?

I think the difference will be who wants it more and at the moment it seems like us! I think that was the major difference against Chelsea. You could tell our boys were up for the fight. We were quicker/harder in the tackles, moved the ball well, defended as a unit.

No reason why we can't repeat that.

I'm confident we can topple them, especially after the team has had another month of playing together. Hopefully they still have a fairly brutal December though, the more distractions they have in January the better (I'm almost not happy they'll be out of the CL by then now).

It will be really interesting to see what sort of team we play, will we go with a similiar line-up to Chelsea with first teamers and a few fringe players or will Kenny put out our first team. I think the latter given that we are so close to a final.

Seems like a perfect draw in Liverpool's perspective. Better to take them on in a two legged semis than the finals. An away draw to be the first leg as well. Advantage Liverpool, surely.

I think they will be easier to beat in a two-legged tie(with the second leg being at anfield) rather than in the final.
