  • And the sweet silver song of a lark..
My predicted lineup

                 Mig
Flano   Caulker   Ilori   Smith
     Chirivella   Lucas
Ibe                        Teix
    Sturridge  Benteke

I thought I saw Brannagan in the training pictures. If he's recovered from his illness I think he'll play instead of of Pedro.

Surely we need to go with a pretty strong lineup from here on in all three cups.  Qualifying for the champions league via league position is highly unlikely at this stage, and not looking likely for the Europa League.  While I'm not advocating for giving anything but our very best and playing our strongest lineup in the league each week, we shouldn't be holding much back int he cups.  This is now what our season hinges on.

Some players deserve a run out and a look (Oji, Illori), need to get back to fitness (Sturridge & Flannagan), or should just get a look because those starting ahead of them recently haven't been so crash hot (maybe Ibe, Smith, Flanagan, Caulker and Ward).  The rest should be strongest possible.

Ward

Flano    Caulker    Ilori    Smith

Can    Lucas

Ibe                      Oji
Firmino      .
.      Sturridge

Strikers upfront instead of central midfielders. I forgot how it looks like.

Yeah we had a fair bit of it last season too with he who shall not be named!

Amazing how much better our line-up looks when Sturridge is in it. Here's hoping! :)

Think that was a different youngster - there were a couple of different faces in there.

I am always these days more excited about our FA Cup line up, probably because we play some of the young kid's.

Having said that it will be tough tonight assuming we do.

Me too. Don`t understand all these shouts to give kids the chance again, I`d play them vs Villa where there`s no pressure. The team that played last few games for us with Phil, Origi and Sturridge on top of it combined with in-form Firmino is a very very good team imo. I hope we try our everything to go through tonight, no reason whatsoever to rest anyone for anything.

Hope Ward plays.

This! If he doesn't play now with that form from Mignolet, than i can't see why we cancelled his succesfull loan.

Guess we will see Caulker back. So maybe: Ward, Flanagan, Caulker, Toure, Smith, Lucas, Stewart, Coutinho, Ibe, Sturridge, Benteke ?

Just bring Mignolet on for the penalty shootout.

Benteke and Sturridge haven't played up top together yet have they? That would be an interesting one.

Just bring Mignolet on for the penalty shootout.

I hadn't thought about it, but there's possibly a chance Klopp will start him based on the fact this could go to penalties.

There has been absolutely no indication Ward will start, so I don't see it happening.

He dropped Bogdan fairly sharpish after his howlers, so how Mignolet continues to start I have no idea. Why cancel his loan if he isn't in with a shout of playing?

But this time, there might just be logic in playing Mignolet this time around.

------------------Mignolet------------------

-Flannagan---Caulker--Sakho---Smith-

-------------------Lucas--------------------

---------Can----------------Milner---------

------------------Texiera-------------------

--------Benteke-------Sturridge----------

That would be my line up. Or possibly Firmino for Texiera, with Coutinho to get some minutes at the end.

So i guess this is the likely lineup, right?

                Mignolet
Flano   Toure   Caulker  Smith
          Stewart   Lucas
Ibe                               Teix
       Sturridge  Benteke

With Origi and Coutinho to come off the bench.

Personally i'd give Ward a start. He might not be ready. He might make a howler that costs a goal. But that's a regular occurrence with Mignolet anyway.

Sturridge and Benteke could be a real handful if they're on it. Although i'd like to see a Sturridge Firmino partnership.

Just please start Ward, I can't deal with watching Mignolet every game, it's hurting my head.

Hope Origi gets some minutes too

I'd expect us to go pretty much full strength with some of those returning from injury making us look a lot better options wise.

               Mignolet (I'd play Ward)

Clyne     Caulker      Sakho      Moreno (I'd play Smith)

         Milner         Lucas        Can

         Ibe          Sturridge     Firmino

Personally I'd love to see two up top and one in behind  (McCarthy gif please). I would select

                  Ward

Clyne    Caulker    Sakho    Smith

      Milner      Lucas      Can

                Firmino

    Beneteke        Sturridge

With Coutinho and Origi to come on for some minutes when we are 4-0 up, just before we scrape a 4-4 draw.

Ward hasn't travelled with the team - Bogdan has.

EDIT: No Sturridge either, by the looks of it.

The pictures of the squad leaving Melwood. Bogdan is there - Coutinho, Origi too but no Sturridge. Unless he's travelling separately?

Still it doesn't really mean he hasn't traveled, they've only got like 10 players pictured.

What kind of team are we looking at starting tonight? Top 4 is an extremely distant dream so I hope we go full strength here.

Colin Wanker surprisingly said something I agree with Re: Sturridge. He said if an 'explosive' type of player was coming back from injury, he preferred to start them rather than them coming on from the bench.

So they get a proper warmup and stuff so the pace of the game is the same for everyone. Rather than throw them on for 30 minutes at the end with a semi type warm up and having to get to the pac of the game straight away. I kinda agree with that.
