Was interesting that one of the lads on TAW was saying he was a nobody until this season when he had a big growth spurt over a short space of time and thats part of the reason Sporting hadn't signed him on pro contract.

Welcome to Liverpool lad.

He looked fantastic during the new generation match.
I watched a YouTube video and decided that Paul Konchesky looked like a player.

What other prospects have we paid a similar price for? I don't see the reserve thread much, but 1M must be high for a reserve team signing, no? I think Shelvey was the last one we paid for that much? But he had played a whole season for Charlton, hadn't he? Not slating the fee, just saying we must really see something in him.

Was out of contract in the summer I think?

Ripped us apart, good signing.
out of contract and sporting have financial woes too, I believe.

Lovely, just what I was hoping to hear. Fingers crossed he can continue to develop and break into the first team. At 19 he should be pushing for a space in the squad next season if he's good enough.

If 19 we should be seeing him get some first team games within the next 2 seasons, provided he is impressing.

Sterling was £600000, potentially rising to £5m.

Sinclair was £750000.

I remember the charlton fans being pretty angry that Shelvey had been allowed to go for so little.

Pretty sure it was Andy Heaton who had been talking to some of the people at Sporting.

 Welcome lad.

I notice he's not included on our updated squad list on the premier league website today, any ideas why? The other 40 or so young/reserve players are on it.

Yes.

She walked up to me so gracefully and took my crown of thorns

Did Poulsen even once play for the reseves? Was surely overlooked for Coady & Rodan.

Texeira would be worth 5m+ if he was under contract. Fortunately for us he wasn't, I reckon he'll be a very, very good player for us similar to Jordan Henderson.

The name kinda fits with the old John Arne Riise song, used to enjoy singing that one.

We saw a lot more youngsters get a go last season, lets hope we see more of them.

Good luck Tex

To everyone calling him Joe: Joao in English is John, not Joe or Joey!  :lmao

Really hope he excels at Liverpool. All of my buddies who follow Sporting closely say that one million was an absolute steal even for his age, but Sporting just did not have the money to give him a professional contract.

Liverpool FC director of football Damien Comolli excited by Joao Carlos Teixeira capture

LIVERPOOL FC director of football Damien Comolli is excited by the capture of highly-rated Sporting Lisbon midfielder Joao Carlos Teixeira.

The 19-year-old Portuguese youth international caught the Reds’ eye with his performances against them in this season’s NextGen Series.

Earlier this week Teixeira completed his move and starts training with the reserves’ squad at the Academy.

“We are very lucky to be able to sign him,” Comolli said. “At Anfield and also in the second game against us he did extremely well. Throughout the competition we scouted him.

“He’s a great addition for the Academy and hopefully he will be able to give Kenny some thinking about taking him (to Melwood).

“We have signed who we think is one of the best players in the tournament. Everyone is very pleased we’ve been able to sign him.”

Comolli believes the club’s youngsters have learned a lot from their participation in this season’s NextGen Series, which is a Champions League style under-19s competition.

“It’s been great experience for them with ups and downs,” he added.

“It’s exactly what we wanted for the young players – to face different styles of football has been a fantastic learning experience.

“We were the first club to sign up for it and hope it will grow and grow in the future. Youth football was crying out for these type of games.”

Jo-wow Te-shearer?

Teixeira is from a place name (could be one of several) derived from the Galician and Portugese word "teixo" meaning Yew tree.

Some sort of back injury and Rodolfo said a while back we wouldn't see him till pre-season. Is in and around the club as pictures of him floating around doing community work with the other youth lads.
